  1. Who's going to SES from the local crew? I'd love to go for 5 days, but the wife doesn't want to go.... she said go alone, and I'm entertaining that thought :) Big trouble after I would imagine though. Anybody up for COP Thursday night and a few (one now) beer after? Nick
  2. Best way is to knock the edge down with a diamond file. It hardens quite a bit due to the impact and a file will just make more of a mess. Take it nice and easy, and try not to make a W shape by scooping on either side of the ding. If you're using a file guide, orient the diamond file parallel to the board edge rather than more perpendicular to try to avoid that situation. Lots of water or whatever for cutting lubricant and it'll be all polished out in a few minutes!
  3. Great video! I'll be there in February. Grew up at Tod and know every inch of the hill!
  4. Louise was ok-decent at the bottom, but up top was like a parking lot. Amazingly didn't scratch my stuff at all, but my wife got a few big but shallow gouges in her skis. Time for some base fill material and a trip to the base grinder! Coiler ride report... soon!
  5. Any ideas as to what's a good bet Saturday? Need to take out the Coiler to break her in! We're thinking Louise. Anybody want to carpool out? We would like to leave by 7. Room for 2. nick dot stabler at gmail.com Nick
  6. We probably should have planned this out ourselves, but how much cheaper would it be for you to send 10-15 to somebody in a given city (Calgary, Canada)? Looks worth every penny! Can't wait!
  7. No idea, but I've heard good things from a few people about the Hestras, which are a pretty established glove company: http://hestragloves.com/en-ca/gloves/alpine/hestra-heater/
  8. I have one spare bed and the wife is out of town if anybody wants to crash. floor mattresses galore if more than one want to. Dave/Corey?
  9. I'd do it by snow conditions. I assume by Big 3, you're looking at Sunshine, Norquay, and Louise. I'd skip Norquay unless it happens to be amazing, but check out night skiing there if that's an option and you're staying in Banff. Sunshine and Louise both have some decent runs for HB, and when it's good snow at Louise, it might not be great at Sunshine and vice versa. Is it possible to do a day at each of Sunshine and Louise and pick the 3rd day depending what you like. The scenery and the atmosphere at each is probably worth checking out if you've never been out here. The locals are usually found at Nakiska, but that isn't probably included at your deal, and the snow isn't phenomenal quite yet, although the snowmaking equipment is out in full force! I'm sure somebody will be out... not sure what my wife's work plans are yet for the weekend.
  10. We should have gotten a shipping deal from Bruce! Do you ride with the Calgary crew? I have the exact same model, a page ago. Havent been able to ride it quite yet... Too choppy still. Looks awesome! Edit: Just realized I asked if you've ridden with us a while ago... see you at NES!
  11. I'll let you know! Thanks Dave.
  12. Anybody have some yellow e rings they want to swap for red, before I ask on wtb page and have to pay shipping? Also looking to buy a 3 deg cant ring. Nick
  13. Choppy conditions, crowded, lots of rusty Jr racers.... snowing a LOT though and snow making in full gear. Didn't take out the new coiler, but got the 4wd rocking a bit in a few spots! Did you make it to Sunshine?
  14. Does anybody (Bora) have the desire to organize a 2 day mini-event during the dates I had mentioned?
  15. I wear a 27 boot, and ride about 55, 53 so opted for the 20 cm. I sent that font to one other member on here, so it might make another appearance on another board. I just finished an initial tune between writing up a research paper... very therapeutic when one is under the gun! No offense to Chris, but the build quality of the Coiler is superior to my Prior 4wd in every way visually. We'll see how the ride compares, although it's comparing apples and oranges I suppose. I'd be curious to do a back to back of a FLC at some point if anybody in AB has one. OT: order some coffee from Transcend in Edmonton, 49th Parallel in Vancouver, or Social Coffee (out east somewhere). You'll be blown away. I roast my own now, but all 3 produce some amazing brew!
  16. It looks even better in person. There is a fade from red to orange on the eyes and flowers that doesn't really turn up in the photo. Hilux, was yours the coffee or the skull? If it's the coffee one, I'm jealous now--total coffee junkie.
  17. The dragon has landed! I'm blown away by the quality of the board and the topsheet came out perfectly. Thanks Bruce! Ride report Sunday if the snow's good. 18. I'd probably start less aggressive and perhaps a bit more aggressive if you find the need. Keep in mind I ride in the Rockies, but we do get some ice out here too! If this was a full on race board, I'd go 1 and 2 to start, but these things are very personal. I started with 1 and 1 on my 4wd and haven't found the need to go more aggressive. I'd start with 1 deg base and 1 degree side bevel. This also gives a 90 effective edge which can be a bit easier for a new tuner to work with. If you're finding you get some base burn toward the edges, but ride on slightly warmer snow, try mixing in some colder wax toward the edges with the appropriate snow temp all over (Tognar has some advice for how to do this with a checkerboard--just skip checkerboarding the middle bit). Check out alpinecarving's tuning page and the ski tuning page from the better ski tool companies. Go easy to start out! You can take metal off but not put it back on. You can do a lot of damage very quickly with a file. Last bit of advice, buy good tuning gear off the hop if you're doing it yourself or take it to a really good shop. Avoid the cheap 3 in 1 tools.
  19. I have a rossi 159 that's in pretty good shape. 80 bucks and a few beers at NES and its yours if you want it. If you want to borrow it for just the beers too, that's cool. Nick (NW)
  20. I'll be at Sun Peaks from the 17th to 23rd of Feb. If anybody wants to meet up for a day or two of carving I'd be in for a mini-session. Might get some people from the US too. Nick
  21. Once the person pays, there is an option in Canada at least for prepaid shipping labels (they say E-Bay ECommerce on them). There are options for Canada Post and UPS. You have to play around a bit with options for flat rate parcels etc... to find the best rate.
  22. I haven't been in years, but when we were kids, it was our favourite for the old cabins and night skiing. I grew up at Sun Peaks, will be there Feb for prez week. Its a great hill if the snow is good. Lots of super hidden stashes in the trees I wouldn't go near on hard boots. Both are primo choices. Hope you make NES for a day. Nick
  23. I tore my quadriceps tendon primarily, and also mucked up the meniscus and most of the tendons in a climbing accident. Good luck with the recovery! Cryocuff
  24. Best of luck with the knee... been there!! Find a good physio for sure. Might also look at investing in of of the cold water therapy things. Looks like a small cooler with a hose and custom cuffs that go around various parts. I remember renting one when I had my surgery. The water circulates with ice in the cooler. If you can't find a link through Google and are interested, pm me. Awesome video!
