  1. JM probably knows more than me, but I can share the following: Apex believes there are significant advantages to using UPM/ASIP inserts over 4x4 and that Allflex inserts provide no advantage over UPM/ASIP for the Apex plates. They are designed to use the UPM/ASIP pattern and then adapted to 4x4 and Allflex inserts. I have that somewhere in an email or something I can dig it out at some point when I'm not so morbidly obesely lazy.
  2. If you're going to spend the big bucks, might as well get a custom made from HK!
  3. My previous communication experience in other niche markets with other owner/manager kinds has always been better, faster, more knowledgeable, more passionate and more personalised than any customer service in a mainstream market. Don't get me wrong, I've probably owned more Apex products than anyone here except Henry but right now it is in a sorry state. I gave up long ago when I had a similar experience to @Atom Ant. And the redirect persists on the site(s) as of a couple of days ago.
  4. Yes but that requires a different carbon plate to the upm/allflex one. Also different hardware, of course.

Just a little bit more of my boy Freddy Chops: Not sure if any Rick & Morty fans here, but if so, Nocturne Op.55 No.1 is sampled in this song, which featured on Rick & Morty:
  6. Good day sir. Hope you don't think I'm bashing Coiler, that would be preposterous absurdity! It's a general comment based on the fact that I know Slapa and I know how he feels about his Oxess. I just think that when one has found something they are happy with, switching to something new presents a risk due to the associated uncertainty. But some people find happiness in experimenting and perhaps he is one of them, but maybe he is not. So the choice is uncertainty of a Coiler or certainty of the Oxess- given my risk averse nature, I know what I would pick. I'm all for optimising decisions and minimising the probability of failure- one might even think I'm a statistician or something idk. My Coiler spot is booked for August. Going to be an all mountain hardboot plow through everything and float on anything beast. I think Bruce does this kind of board the best out of everyone. For my carve and race boards, I'll continue to stick to Oxess. I think Marcel does those best.
  7. Get an oxess unless you want to experiment.
  8. From my personal experience, I would say the following relative attributes are true: more damp, more predictable, less pop, slightly heavier, much more durable than glossy or carbonium. Like the base, can dry out if not waxed. Once per year is enough. Can sand it if it dries out. My carbonium topped boards all have sustained the same amount of chipping from lift lines, but less swirling than glossy but ptex is perfect from day 1 to the end. If you get any damage, it's minimal in comparison and can be sanded out easily. Suits my personal preference very well, but may not suit others'.
  9. How is this still here for $700? Surely worth more than that.
  10. Sounds suspiciously like my RS164/11.5!!! Any reason why no ptex top?
  11. I recently spoke to someone who visited Jason, he said that stock is on hand and orders are being fulfilled. Not sure if that helps. You could just place an order, I guess. Other than that, it's just an exercise of holding your breath.
  12. Are you talking about the 2017 summer sale banner which is on the site? One might deduce that communication isn't one of Jason's stronger points. If you want the information you seek, it might be worth your time calling and/or emailing him (many times). I have a set of Geckos which I don't use any longer and was helped greatly by the owner of Apex to get them, but not the current owner.
  13. Definitely going to consider one of these!
  14. I believe the top brands- Oxess, Kessler, SG have developed reinforcement technologies about those points to handle the load. When a large percentage of your revenue is generated from racing boards with Allflex plates, it is a priority to develop the board technology to handle the plate. Bruce isn't heavily involved in that scene anymore and it seems like Donek is selling more twins than anything these days. Like my dad says, "If you want to be a world champion dancer, you come see me, you don't go to a fish and chip shop."
  15. I'm no engineer either but that board is apparently designed to be used in conjunction with that plate for hardcore training and racing for world cup guys that are big, strong and powerful to ride on worse terrain a lot faster and harder. Not taking away anything from @nitro's level because I understand he is a strong and high level rider, but these boards are built for big boy world cup level riders and that's at least many steps up from the best of us on this forum. Plus, hard race training is always going to place significantly more stress on a board than hard freecarving. 2 apparent elite World Cup level boards both failing at plate inserts within 55 days. Last time I checked, 1+1=2. Do the math, something doesn't add up here.
  16. I shudder at the thought also! I had my rear foot release this season due to snow build up in the heel receiving groove of the boot which I was unaware of, so the heel bail didn't engage properly. From then on I had my idiot strap out and used it to clear the receiving groove out of any snow / ice. Lucky it released on perfect snow while mid heelside carve, otherwise the result could (would) have been catastrophic.
  17. Yes! That's it! Ahhh now my mind can rest. Thank you friend!
  18. Apparently that's called Rogério Machado by Retirantes, and apparently you're pranking me lol
  19. Maybe can get a better price than that if you ask around nicely.
  20. I much prefer this to the Bon Jovi version. Anyone help with what the tune is from 1min37sec-48sec? I know it and can't think of the name.
  21. Wow what a review. I have to extend my appreciation to you, that's really amazing. By far the best snowboard reviewer.
