  1. Big switch! Good for her! Always admire those who are multidisciplinary masters. That's great!! I think learning is the most important thing in life. Well, physical health and fitness, also. Wish it was that way in my family. Slowly seeing all my nieces and nephews turn into unfortunate blobs of nothing. Same happened to my sisters. Well, at least my partner and I have a different attitude...
  2. I think proper air travel guidelines should be stickied. It's as simple as some bubble wrap, a couple of velcro ties and a sportube. Snowboards are definitely fragile. They sustain damage from impact to edges and pressure to topsheets/bases quite easily relative to other types of luggage. They just need to be packed properly for air travel. Anyone who doesn't pack their snowboard with bubble wrap (or something similar) and then pack it tight (so no movement of the snowboard inside the case if it were to drop or be shaken around in the event of a rough environment- example turbulence or rough/fast unload/loading of an aeroplane) while encased it in a hard case like a Sportube is taking on unnecessary risk. Anyone's snowboard bags might contain up to say $7-10k of equipment if you have a big wallet. 30minutes of packing and a $200 dollar bag is surely a worthwhile risk management measure. My first snowboard maaaaany years ago (Salomon Burner 161) was damaged in air travel and it was entirely my fault. I was young and didn't know the risks of sending my board on the plane. Expensive mistake, especially when I was poor (sorry, still am..). Nothing has happened since and my Sportubes are holding up nicely after many international trips and stopovers.
  3. I use Bupa. The same company I use for my health insurance. It is one of the biggest if not the biggest where I reside.
  4. I always cover my boards with snow sport specific travel insurance. 1 month costs only 150bucks. Up to $50,000 for snow equipment with no limit on each item among other things like health insurance included. Damage, theft, whatever. $400 excess. I also cover them in bubblewrap and use a hard SPORTUBE 2 for alpine gear and SPORTUBE 3 for softboot gear to transport them. Hardboots go in carryons. Anyone not doing so is just asking for trouble.

Yeeeh! Agree. These days there are some sweet integrated amps with a reasonable USB fed DAC, essentially eliminating the need for a CDP! Added to ignore list. My heart can't take this anymore.

So just a budget set up? Jks. I had a Naim NateDogg about 10 years ago or so. Connected to a set of the old Epos M16i .. I'm sure you know them since you're from up that way. I actually had the matching centre and books (actually bought them from hifiwigwam..) for surrounds, but preferred stereo for most if not all things. Never had the room treatment to integrate subs and surrounds properly. I could never really tell the difference between WASAPI output and just normal output going to my DAC or these days I use a studio usb interface. Decent one. Audient- UK gear, too. Maybe because I've always run on a decent comp with external DAC chips? I haven't listened to anything less than FLAC for aages. I still download it all the old fashioned way. Rarghh. Pretty sure last time we (me n a couple of mates) checked we could all tell the diff between 192/FLAC, but I doubt I could ever tell the difference between 320/anything higher. Not sure I could pick which is which in a blind test. What server do you use for upnp? The bang for your buck is in studio monitors, provided you're near field. That's my experience anyway. Kali & JBL seem good. For sure. I place more importance on room treatment these days. That's probably why I like headphones so much. No need to treat the room. I remember the guy I sold my Epos towers to complained about them being ear piercingly bright in his SQUARE, TILED, LOW ROOFED room. And he was an audio engineer apparently- I still doubt that.
  12. One of my jobs is still at the uni, perhaps this is why my taste in music is constantly changing.

Do you think you can tell the diff between 320k and 1411k? I don't think I can, but I still only download lossless for whatever reason. Even some hi-res for my favourite Chopin stuff. I convince myself I can hear the difference but we all know I can't.

I messed around with far too many expensive audio products-- in particular electronics. Naim, Bryston, Leema and a few cheaper things like Rotel and NAD. Came to the conclusion that if running lossless/hq lossy audio from a reasonable source (pc to <$200 DAC is fine) then amplifier electronics only make up 5% of the sound, 5% to the DAC and 90% to the speakers. I reckon people have it all wrong spending $2k on speakers and then $10k on pre/pro+2 monoblock powers and $10M on cables lol. $10k on speakers and <$2k on a modern digital integrated instead. Don't really see a reason for expensive electronics anymore especially since I'm more happy with my JBL monitors, which come biamped, than basically any of my expensive stereo set ups I messed around with. I do have mogami cables, but only because my cheapy XLRs all ended up failing. But I hardly use them in favour of headphones.

  16. What inserts does your 185 have? Interested if you're selling...

Wow nice set up! I had a Bryston amp also at one stage, was actually awesome! I used to have a nice stereo set up, but was impractical in the end for me. Now I'm just using a set of these headphones with this USB interface. Got a set of studio monitors on my desk, which I hardly use.

What are people using to listen to their music on? Anyone got a prized stereo set up or sweet set of headphones or something?
  19. Sorry I just find steezy the most ridiculous word, I finally had an opportunity to use it, so I did. I should've started my post with the word "dude" for maximum effect. My bad
  20. First pic is pretty damn steezy. I think most of not all here can do toeside like second pic, though, right?
  21. It's really not a big deal the top, it's just cosmetic. Just wax it like the base. Cheapest colourless wax. Will last forever
  22. That's perfect! Still too soft for me for that, though.
  23. Yeah fair enough. Personally, I'd make it stiffer for my 85kg. I think the weight range is a bit broad for it. I would say 65-80kg. But that's just me and I feel I'm at a point where I'm more in touch with my preferences than I was say 5 years back. I always found myself on the edge of pushing it too far. But I still think it's the easiest board to carve dynamically on and look good. Pity I've never looked good!
