  1. Hi all, My son raced on Wednesday at the provincial qualifier and finished 1st. His teammates finished 2nd and 3rd. The whole boys team gets to go to Provincials this year. The girls made it as well. Provincials are next Thursday at Alpine. It's very exciting. Looking at USASA, the Western New York series includes Southern Ontario. They had a race at Horseshoe back in January that only had 5 racers his age in it. Looking at the times he would have been very competitive. I have no issue driving into New York for races. I've found the website https://ontariosnowboard.ca/ There is very little information on how you become eligible to enter these races. I know the minimum requirement is to be a member of "Ontario Snowboard". I'm going to reach out to them. I really appreciate the help from AlpineGirl and TVR. AlpineGirl lent my son some boards last season and has been a good friend to us along the way. TVR gave my son a pair of Burton Race plates that have been mounted on the Prior FLC that he is currently racing on. Thanks.
  2. Hi all, My son is in grade 10. He started racing with his school last season. He has no formal race training (and actually does not snowboard that often) but has been improving at an amazing rate. Over last season in 4 races he finished 33rd, 13th, 4th then 1st at the York Region finals. At provincials his 1st run was good for 1st overall but he missed a gate on his second run and got a DNF. This year he has had 2 races. He got 1st place both races, wining by 7 seconds, way ahead of the pack. My son does have the advantage of being on hardboots while almost all the other racers are on soft boots, although some are on some pretty crazy setups (Kessler w/ Gecko, SGs, etc). My son is on a used FLC with Burton Race plates. If he wanted to try racing outside of high school, where can he go? Thanks.

  4. Glad it worked out for you. Priors are awesome boards and their low resale value makes them total bargans for modern metal boards. I see another Prior WCRM on Kijiji for $300. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-snowboard-planche-a-neige/laval-rive-nord/planche-a-neige-et-bottes-a-vendre/1475360685
  5. I'm pretty sure the board is sold. Denis removed the add from Kijiji. You might be better off. I bought his bindings and they did not arrive as described.
  6. Joe, appreciate your response. I think I am setup. I'm going to save the incomplete bindings I have now for spare parts. TVR, thank you very much for the bindings. It has been a challenge getting Tyler setup on a budget and this definitely helps. We will definitely pass them forward when we are done.
  7. I just bought a pair of used Burton race plates. They came with 2 different size bails. One of them is larger then normal. I'm looking for a regular size bail to use with size 26 boots.
  8. I've been talking to Denis over Kijiji. He is out of town right now. Might be why he's not responding here.
  9. Thanks again Pierre. Board looks great. My son will love it.
  10. Giant clear garbage bag with head and arms cut out. Rainy days are always good. Packs granular back together. And you get an empty hill.
  11. I have a 164 similar to this. It's my go to board when conditions go to crap, at a small hill, or when I'm sliding around with the kids. She can carve. Sorry for the weird angle.
  12. Had two comments this week... I was in Whistler Sunday to Tuesday. My last day there I was going down a narrow run and I could see a skier behind me catching up. I stopped to let them past, and well before they caught up to me. As she passed she yelled out "you're using too much of the hill". Back in Ontario, yesterday I went with my daughters school on their ski trip. Grade school kids everywhere. Lakeridge, a tiny hill had great conditions and I was having fun on a steep run called Riekeys Run. When pulling into the lift line I head a tiny voice yell "You are the master of snowboarding".
  13. My son wants to ride hard boots this year. He is a solid soft boot carver. He has also signed up for the high school race team. He is about 150 lbs and needs size 26 boots. If you have anything you think would be good for him please let me know. Thanks
  14. I just want to update this thread. The week leading up to x-mas I didn't workout once. Work was crazy. The next week I had off. During that week I went skating hard three times with no pain at all. My confidence was not there, but I could skate just fine. I think I needed that week off to totally heal up. I have tried both skiing and snowboarding. Snowboarding I feel a bit of discomfort especially when skating around with one foot out, but no pain. Skiing is totally fine.
  15. This is how I feel as well. I guess all I can do it be patient and keep working at it. Thanks.
  16. My Ortho says I can return to sports when I have no pain and he always reminds me to "take it easy". My physio has cleared me to return to non-contact sports (skating but no hockey). I don't think it's joint pain. I thought it the pain was from the incisions but lordmetro's theory of having to manipulate the joint is interesting. My muscles are doing well. I have to bow out because of the pain well before muscle fatigue. I am told I will go 100% back to the way I was before. It's just taking longer than I thought to recover and I'm getting discouraged.
  17. About 3 months ago I had surgery to repair a bucket handle tear in my right knee. For 2.5 months previous to surgery I could not straighten my leg. I lost all the muscle in my calf and some in my quad. I've been working out quite a bit to get my strength back. I have no pain walking or running. But when I go ice skating and I start going aggressively it starts to hurt to the point where I cannot continue. I cannot snowboard like this. I'm pretty discouraged about the time it's taking to heal. There is no ski hills open yet anyway but I don't see myself ready anytime soon other than playing on the beginner hills with my youngest. Anyone else have this surgery? How long till you were skiing / snowboarding again?
  18. Is this the old WCR with the metal topsheet?
  19. One board for every condition or one board for only corduroy?
  20. I had the 157 supercross. Awesome board. Rode it with soft boots, and then hard boots after I wrecked my ankle. It did great. It was my favorite board that I ever put soft boots on. If I didn't have a Donek Incline I'd be all over it.
  21. I have not ridden soft boots in 15 years, but I can say with all honesty that soft boots are the better tool for pow and post pow chop. It's still fun on hard boots, but it's just not the same.
  22. When I show up to Southern Ontario Session with my Prior, I am the minority. Everyone else has Coilers.
  23. Donek Incline 164. The tip and tail has been blunted a little, 23cm wide, sidecut is 9/11. It's super easy to slide around, but still carves well. It's great for when it's crowded or riding with the kids.
