  1. Keep the suggestions coming. Spending a week in Aspen gives me an portunity to eat at all these places.
  2. Yes, I used Burton/Ibex bindings with the rear wedge. I think my angles are 45/15, at least that is what I have on it's little brother, the 164. The 171 is a bit on the burley side for me.
  3. I think you are better off starting on a softer/flexier binding and then getting something different when you start over powering your bindings. Your "soft" plates can be re-used for another less aggressive board: a free-ride or powder board. I have TD3 SW on my carve deck and flexier Burton race plates set up to be a bit loose on my freeride and powder boards and I will have to say, it works pretty nice.
  4. Burton/Ibex/CarveCompany race plates if you have boots larger than 23. Bomber TD3 sidewinders if you want some bling. Step-ins are stiffer and more expensive since you need the heel(s). You can run a standard bail in the front and step-in in the rear to keep costs low.
  5. Kelly Starrett is the man! 5-15 minutes of mobility work each day can be beneficial. I feel that mobility work is "better" than yoga to gain mobility and increase your resistance to injury. Yoga is great for some things, but a yoga clas isn't going to target hip mobility, knee tracking and ankle flexion. Tree, warrior, cobra, chavasana, cat, cow, down-dog poses do nothing for me as a snowboarder. Using a lacrosse ball on my calves, rolling out on a foam roller and doing hip and ankle opening drills before and after a hard day of carving works wonders. I also want to say that I love my yoga, the right class and instructor can be pretty intense. Inverted holds and balances, back bends, and partner work is really fun and feels great. I still do mobility work as it's far more beneficial for the functional aspect. Yoga is more feel good spiritual.
  6. Catek is dead. It's sad because the competition between Catek and Bomber made both products better. I liquidated my Catek holdings in 2011/2012 after I couldn't place an online order or get an email response. Then I read about people getting charged money and not receiving product for weeks or months.
  7. I'll be up with my girlfriend this weekend. Hit me up if you want to get some turns in.
  8. Received in excellent shape, the packaging indicates a master of "The Burito Method"
  9. A onesie motorcycle suit may be your best bet. Some are Gore-Tex bonded, have insulation or allow you to layer up, have venting options, offer provisions for body armor and are more abrasion resistant than ski gear (1000d vs 70d in impact areas) Options that come to mind: Joe Rocket Survivor suit Aerostich Roadcrafter series suits Both come in Hi-Viz yellow. I have both of these suits for motorcycle riding. I would recommend the Joe Rocket first since it comes with a thermal liner and it is cheaper. I have yet to try mine on over snowboard boots, I've been thinking I should try to make it fit. I've also been thinking about contacting Aerostich to make me a custom roadcrafter with replacable knee and butt patches since those wear out the fastest.
  10. Still for sale. I'd like to parlay this sale into a Never Summer for my girlfriend. She's been bitten by the snowboard bug.
  11. Condition report from 1/9 to 1/11: Floating rocks off Lower SOlitude. Cornice bowl has rocks and floaters too. Dave's Run was surprisingly good and soft, untill you meet up with Lower Solitude, then there are rocks on skiers right. Skiers left seemed to have less rocks. Stump Alley on Skiers left under the chair was awesome in the AM, then you need to transfer over to Mambo and Escape in the PM. Broadway has great coverage but it is crowded. The race courses to skiers left under Chair 1 are empty around 2PM so look to those for some steep carving with little to no traffic. Pretty much you can Freecarve the whole day if you choose the runs. Saddle Bowl and Stump alley in the AM Stump Alley to Mambo/St Moritz to Mambo/Phantom's Escape in the late AM to PM Race courses in the PM.
  12. I second the pizza and cookie at the top of Snowmass.
  13. Hmm, now if we could only have a few satellite Bomber installations and have these events at different mountains to enlighten the instructors. There is so much more to snowboarding than skidding the tail on a rocker board.
  14. Consider this thing sold. I had a Coiler AM VSR XT with the free carve nose and it was an awesome board. I sold it last year and regret selling it. I'm snowboarding/travelling today and internet connection is spotty, but I'll be in town by tonight. Can I send you a PayPal payment?
  15. Very very interested. I hover around 140-145 in my most fit state. Any chance you will be at SES this year?
  16. I may be riding a Coda board this weekend. Can't wait to hear what comments I get on that!
  17. Father to son: "Check out that alpine board" Lots of murmurs of "look at that" or "what kind of board is that", but nothing directed at me. Two skiers approaching the lift line: "Wow, you were making some nice turns back there" Me: "Was I in your way at all, I appologize if I didn't let you by" Skiers: "No way man, we had a lot of fun trying to follow your line." I was meeting an aquaintance on the mountain and he knew I was close when a skier complained on the lift: "A guy on a carving board with a green helmet was taking up the whole run." He just waited for me at the top of the lift and said, "I knew it was you!" While waiting at the top of a steeper section of trail for traffic to die down, A dad to his son: "Hold up, watch this guy carve down this."
  18. The following is not scientific at all. In my experience: A narrower board will generally transition from edge to edge quicker. On small radius boards, I can not get very low because the turn ends too quickly for my skills to drag body parts. On large radius boards, I can drag elbows/knees/hips in the snow since I have enough time during the turn to get over that far.
  19. Title says it all. $30 shipped to your neck of the woods
  20. I have a very nice Steepwater 171 Steep for sale. Mammoth topsheet and 3 days of total usage. I cleaned up the edges and they are -1 base, -2 side. Let's try $250, $200 plus shipping. Pics to follow shortly
  21. Bump, still for sale. I'm thinning the quiver to finance this year's lift tickets.
