  1. Why do you use ski boots on a snowboard? I gave up explaining that there do exist hard boots for snowboarding as most people just dont get it, so its either "My skis were stolen", "These are special NASA ski boots 2000 dollars a piece" and other bull****.
  2. A water bottle with a strong mix of coke and whiskey is standard for me.
  3. Twisted ankle after the nose dived into some soft snow on a particularly hard heel side carve. The usual, incredible swelling and a huge bruise under the ankle, and the pain of putting any pressure on the joint. I got put into a cast and was told 5 weeks, with no guarantee that I would be able to snowboard this season. Well f that, were having one of the best winters in Europe in a looong time. So its been two weeks so far and I took the cast off myself and can walk pretty well, Im trying not to limp, I did a variety of exercises that I found on that net that went pretty well. So my plan is to wear the cast but take it off during the weekend when I can do my own rehabilitation and such. Feb 21 is my back to snowboarding date. Do or die.
  4. Hey Wun, you are way overanalyzing this ****, do you have OCD or something? I also sat for hours reading about HPS tuning here and on extremecarving and how to install the BTS and which springs and this and what that and astrophysics and fluid dynamics... shut up. I gave up just bought the BTS with yellow springs cut off the wings and am happy as pie, and I weigh 185pds. First of all you bought way too stiff boots for 120pounds (go eat a burger man). So either sell the boots or cut everything out and put a BTS with yellow springs.
  5. A Madd 170 is a lot of things, awesome things, but a race board it is not.
  6. Not really, a hammer does the job. Just make sure when drilling with a 5mm bit to kinda move the drill inside the plastic to open it up a bit. I wouldnt use a 6mm bit btw, you want that pin really snug.
  7. Its the wind chill that kills me, I was riding a few weeks ago in -20C and its no problem, just have the have the right gear.
  9. Right here :) http://www.fktools-us.com/
  10. Pretty much. From what I read you are supposed to use only one "slot" for a file or stone and have a dummy plastic in the other. The only problem of course is that the small files get used up very quickly and might get very expensive replacing them, but I think for a weekend warrior like me itll do the job just fine. Oh, no problem Millen, Ive been carving for only 2 years but been snowboarding since oh ****.. 1991? 92? Peace
  11. Bingo I think thats the issue, the files and stones have to be quite small to actually conform to the sidecut. Ive been digging hard on the net and actually found something, its produced by Kunzmann called a SKS Swing Cut and actually marketed for boards and skis with smaller sidecuts.
  12. Did you seriously just provide me links to alpinecarving and tognar? I mean no offense but thatd be like you asking about water injecting your tdi and if the sensor your snipping is the right one and me giving you http://google.com
  13. I just read that the edge tuner I bought (Toko Ergo Multi Guide) isnt really designed for small sidecuts below 13m (something about the 100mm file not able to accurately hug the radius). I didnt want to invest in a bunch of file guides and files and just wanted something quick and easy to polish the edges, but is this true? Honestly I think it could handle even my SL board with a 9.6m sidecut. But now Im having second thoughts...
  14. Besides a few core places in the Alps, Europe is not looking much better. Snowfall isnt predicted until... January for my area.
  15. Economy of scale, made in china, and the market. For me the reality is that hardbooting is dominated by cottage industries and extensive subcontracting where craftsmanship and expensive materials are required no matter what, as thats what demanded and necessary in this sport. And how many hardbooters are there out in the world? 10,000? For Burton, thats a limited run series of some park star's board. For me that means buying used boards for a long long long time.
  16. Ah ha, so you mount the wings not at the sides of the board but top/bottom? I get it, thanks man, thank you for all the help :)
  17. Hi Ursle, I got a quick question, how do you mount the plates on a narrow board?? Do you angle the risers' "feet" parallel to the bindings, so like this.. the /o/ in the middle is the binding angled lets say 60degrees... and cut off whats hanging off? [/-/o/-/] [/-/o/-/] or have the risers parallel parallel to the board and not have to cut off anything... something like this.. [ (-/o/-) ] [ (-/o/-) ]
  18. Yea, they were Brits... the scourge of the Alps. And since Im stereotyping, Ill go ahead and name the Russians. Divas and fat dudes dressed in gear probably worth more than your car who cant ski for ****, no manners, and are WASTED by 2pm.
  19. But with F2s they should be ok? I also have a pair of Blax Classics, I think these used to be the forerunners to F2 bindings, ut they have a plastic base and are pretty flexible and soft, good for ECing :) Ursle.. come on, give it up man :p tell me your experiences with riding on these risers. Im gonna have to cut up the pair I have to get it to fit, but is it worth it?
  20. This is connected with a for sale I saw in the classifieds, but has anyone ever ridden on palmer risers with TD2s or F2s? Or are they way too soft? I dont own any metal and dont need any kind of plate system, but am intrigued in using a pair of palmer PLSs to better the ride and maybe have it a bit more cushy and flexible. Any opinions?
  21. Maybe someone can chime in on base angels. My side angels have ranged for 87 to 89 but always with a flat base but now after buying all of my own tuning equipment Im ready to experiment on my own. For my freecarving boards would a 1 degree base 1-2 degree be ok?
  22. Taking a shot in the dark here, but Im guessing racers replace their bindings far more often then us mere mortals :) hence the low risk of breakage. I bought my first TD2s two years ago and hope to put another 3 on them. Id go bankrupt if I had to buy a few pairs of bindings every season, but for racers it might be a fact of life, and no matter how you cut it, F2s are way way cheaper than bombers.
  23. Thats what I thought, the website was unclear about it and I thought they were the 09/10s, in fact they were selling the 08/09s but at full price!
  24. Ive got to pick on something here, Im all for cheaper alpine equipment and god damn it boots are way too expensive and difficult to choose, but I see this one mantra recurring in this thread like its some obvious truth. Honestly, who cares if more people start riding alpine? Why is this important? Im guessing 95% of you got into the sport with your own balls and initiative because thats the nature of this sport, its technical as hell, expensive no matter what, risky, and lets not forget its "different". And its not like carving is the "light" that the masses need to see, jibbers like jibbing, I mean you could go on and on and on about people drinking Budweiser instead of some awesome beligan ale or for driving **** cars or buying some cheesy audio equipment instead of the good stuff or going to disneyland instead of exploring guatamala, but why? And the clincher is that I like that alpine is an elitist niche sport. And just look how well its doing now, why mess with a good thing? My 2 cents fellas.
