  1. Zinal is in my dreams, I dont know if I can afford it just yet :) But thanks for the invite I decided to go into debt for this month and ordered a 163 WC SL, let's see when it gets here. Thank you all for the advice
  2. Anyone interested in a new never used R17 Addicted? My buddy has one, white top/black base that he wants to get rid of.
  3. the next generation madd 158? :) i talked to him about it, but the delivery date (i think feb/march) put me off, plus im in europe so i have to take into account shipping and that f2s a dime a dozen here. jack michaud said he would be doing a board to board comparison when he gets his, cant wait :)
  4. Yea from what I gather its not metal metal like the other offerings in the WC. Im looking for a tight carving machine that can kill the ice and chop on narrow slopes, as thats 60% of what I ride on. I have a Donek all mountain 172 with a 10m sidecut thats a bit too soft though, a 5.7 on Doneks scale. I need something shorter, similar sidecut, but stiffer Almost set on the SL WC 163, but Wintergold, how much do you weigh? Im 180 or so
  5. Its like buying a car but much much worse :) Does anyone have any personal input on these boards?
  6. I figure I can save up enough money in the next 2 months to finally buy myself a new board. Some blood will get sold, some Ramen eaten, ... but my personality is such that I need a specific goal to do this, hence I need to choose what snowboard I want to buy right now otherwise itll all fall apart. Im going to print out pictures of it and paste it all around me as a motivational tool.. ..the thing is I need some superduper metal SL board for my tiny local mountains, gobs of idiot beginners, and ice, oh my the ice. Ice a plenty. And ****ty moguls from time to time, chop, and even exposed earth. Im going to be in good shape as Im working out 4 times a week, so my weight's going to be around 180 on my 6'1" frame. Anything off the shelf available or should I go custom? Wait until the new stuff is announced or get something now?
  7. How badly do you have to run a business for people to actually wonder if you're even running??? WOW
  8. I wax the topsheets with car wax once a season followed by a carnuba wax, it works ok as long as the board is already cold before it touches the snow. And of course it makes your topsheet all nice and shiny and hides a lot of small scratches. I dont oil the board with anything as I dont want it to spread all over my jacket and gloves.
  9. How would you mount these to your board?
  10. Nice find! I saw you can also pick up them on ebay for around 180 bucks.
  11. Kinda off track here... Today I had ice in the morning and actually managed quite well by grabbing my boots and keeping very low, but then temps jumped up and a little rain started to fall, so by 11am the snow was very very wet and slushly, we're talking about those huge wet piled up mounds everywhere interspaced with patches of ice. My favorite blue/black run turned into hell, I just couldnt do it. I couldnt keep the board on edge since as soon as I hit a bit wet pile of snow I just went flying, or if I did make it through, then a patch of ice would make me go skidding. This was on a 175 Swoard and later 172 Axxess, Im sure if I had a smaller 160ish board I couldve done it, but is there any technique for larger boards on these kinds of days?
  12. Well I got plowed today by a straightliner, the run had a bit of a flat part followed by a drop, so I was going straight on the flat part no one around me to build up speed and enter my first carve on the drop and WHAM... Not even an apology. So besides a stiff shoulder and back Ive also got a half-inch chip in my sidewall. :( Oh yea not to say it ruins the rest of your day as everytime I heard the wsssshh of a straighliner I pulled the brakes.
  13. So after reading this thread the bug bit my ass... what should I pick up for those who want to DIY? Who makes the best edge/base sharpening tools? What about files or polishing stones, do I need them all? Ive only hotwaxed before and left the edges and base to the selfdeemed experts at the local shop, but now Im willin to drop the coin to do it myself. The EC guys swear by everything offered by the swiss company Tooltonic..
  14. Lufthansa tried to stiff me $300 once to Europe from Newark NJ for two boards in one bag. Be careful!
  15. WoWowowo... sure the alps are more majestic in scenery and i could never complain about the italian atmosphere (bombardinos anyone?), but did make me drool a bit on the keyboard.
  16. Kind of an off-shoot from the thread in December about the best carving places in the US... do any of you have a great place to recommend in the Alps? So far I'm lucky to say Ive been to the Italian Alps (Livigino, Dolomites) and Switzerland (St. Moritz) and I really recommend Val Gardena in the Dolomites, the size is of the entire resort (like 400 miles of runs) is incredible, the runs are well groomed, and even with the crowds its easy to find a great blue run all to yourself. Any other favorites out there? Criteria is the same, wide empty runs, good infrastructure, prices, carving heaven... France, Austria? Besides Zinal of course ;)
  17. Race car for sale. Runs, sweet ride. Email me for info.
  18. Kinda offtopic, but what are your binding angles?
  19. No one insulted anyone here, it was all in good fun.
  20. Thanks dude, Ive never ridden on anything so narrow and was fearing high 70s or maybe 80 front.
