  1. Those are "rental" plates. You can adjust the bails without removing them. I never used them but they must be fairly rugged for use in rental fleets.
  2. We go out west very year and put 2 snowboards, ( 150cm and 192cm ) and 2 pairs of kids skis, all without bindings in a wheeled dakine 185cm ski bag and then 2 pairs of skiboots and 2 helmets in a dakine "boot-locker" boot bag. We just call it a "ski" bag and "boot bag" and never got hassled. We put the other 2 sets of snowboard boots and 2 more helmets in 2 suitcases with our other stuff. That way no extra charge, 1 bag per person. Yes, always have a backpack for carryon.
  3. these are just heavy canvas space sacks.
  4. I used to use one of those unicants and a little slop was actually normal. You can fix it by building up the plastic where the metal tabs engage the cant. Use marine repair epoxy. The smelly stuff that comes in a roll that you mix like modeling clay. It also helps to put a couple of pieces of double sided tape between the topsheet and cant. good luck. I saw one of these on ebay the other day for $70...yikes.
  5. They hit people going slow too, not just stopped.
  6. I put 1-3, but what I notice is that once I fall once, I'm MUCH more likely to fall again and again that day. Almost always a wash out on a heelside carve, followed by a nasty butt slam that may or may not readjust my spine... If I avoid that 1st one I'm usually good all day...
  7. I don't get it...the General Lee was always jumping...makes no sense on a carving board. Better on a bx board with all the new stupid jumps on the course nowadays. ( maybe it was? ) LOVED Daisy. I think she was already 40 when that show was on too! My daughter sang that Katy Perry song all summer..."Daisy dukes, bikini on top..." I was hoping with Obama in the whitehouse people would get past a lot of this ultra sensitive racial stuff. Boy was I wrong...
  8. Once you actually have kids it strikes a whole different vein when someone elses kid dies. It's a bad place to be. I'm not on a high horse. Just a crazy parent. You are missing the point that straightlining on a spoonboard at 60 mph on an run with other people on it is crazy and selfish. At that speed even if the hidden parties were moving at a normal clip they would still be hit. If he was a bit sloer I would blame both parties. Yes I avoid morons like this all day long, as we all do, but I would not go 50 or 60 MPH on a run with other people on it. Poach a closed trail, do backcountry, or become a downhill racer if you want to go that fast...why risk ruining someone elses life for a speed rush?
  9. I don't believe you can defend straightlining 60 mph on any slope that might have hidden skiers below rollers. The little girl would have been just as dead if she was snow plowing at 15 mph under the roller and the jackass hit her. It was the straightliner's fault 100% by gambling the run would be empty under that roller at warp speed. All I really got out of this accident ( other than pissed off and more paranoid) is that when I'm with my kids ( aged 8 and 10 ) and they wipe out in a bad spot, I will HOLLER LIKE A LOON FOR THEM TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE !@#$%^& TRAIL!!!, and I will bring them their skis or whatever.
  10. So if your kid loses a ski/yardsales under a roller you take off the remaining ski, hike up to the lip, position your poles in an X, hike down to the lost ski, carry both skis back up to the lip, grab your poles, put on your skis and then go. It certainly beats death, but I've never seen it done. Straightliners deserve to die. Too bad he couldn't just turn into the trees and not drag a 2nd grade girl with him.
  11. http://trib.com/news/updates/article_4300370e-2403-11e0-89b8-001cc4c002e0.html Also, it's confusing as the boarder is refered to as "Shirley"...his last name. Super BAD christmas memories for both families goin forward...:( Still, the boarder was so at fault...makes no sense. Why have the code at all?
  12. Someone mentioned this accident to me today and I looked it up. http://k2radio.com/hogadon-deaths-no-crime-committed-audio/ Basically a straightline snowboarder hit and killed a mother and her 5 year old on a black run while they were trying to put a ski back on. "Massive chest injuries" On Christmas eve! :( I don't get it...if they were downhill they had the right of way. The boarder could not stop in time...????
  13. What does it smell like? Oil? Smoke? Rubber belts? Burning electric? Sounds dangerous. I'm shocked and amazed that it can't be fixed. We have an oil fired forced hot air sytem as well, it works fine but is kind of old and noisy so we are also wondering. I hear it's tough to dispose of the old oil tank as well.... Our next door neighbors just got a great deal converting to gas, but the unit is pretty noisy from OUTSIDE of their house and bugs me. I work with several guys that have pellet stoves and they love them, but lots of maintaining. Best as a supplement.
  14. Please post pics, I'm not sure I understand the text.
  15. Ok, so what would carve better? A metal board with no plate, or a glass board with a plate? Should one consider buying a Boiler Plate or other before going Metal? Apologies if this has already been beaten to death or is a dumb question.
  16. It sounds like you are all set, but something else to consider would be a Mistral Windglider now sold as the Aquaglide Multisport. http://www.aquaglide.net/categories/multisport.cfm I bought an NOS Windglider on CL for $100 to use as a training windsurfer for my kids and relatives, but we use it as a kayak ( holds me and 2 kids ), we anchor it and snorkel/jump/fish off it. and of course use it as a small sailboat and windsurfer AND tow it behind the boat.... I haven't tried SUPing with it as I don't have a paddle, and it would be useless in the waves but it worked out much better than I imagined.
  17. I have a couple of unused burton space sack 181 board bags for sale. I thought I could stuff a 192 in, but ended up getting an avalon double ski bag instead. Great for hiding new boards from jealous spouses. One is red plaid and the other black. $65 shipped ( continental US ) for both?
  18. Cloning the nordica SBH with beefier hardware and optional BTS would be a GREAT place to start. I'm on my 3rd NOS pair and just love the comfort and performance tweakablity you get just by adjusting the tightness of the closures. They are much also much lighter than any raichle or burton shells I've tried and much better for hiking.
  19. Wow, looks like such fun...totally in the ZONE! Great hop turns and method off the lip! Thank god I'm heading up to ride this friday or I would be in pain watching this! Thanks for posting. Hmmm.... can't seem to find any videos of anyone doing this on softies....even new ones.
  20. I mostly ride Nordica sbh's with vibram soles and snowpros/race plates and I love the flex and all mountain versatility. Crazy comportable and light. If this setup works for you I say rock it. Gotta love custom tinkering. Especially when hard boot options are so limited and won't get any better. My only warning would be that I have stripped the threaded inserts on those same older green aluminum race plates before ( once on the mountain, another time just tightening them ) and don't trust them. I've had no problems with the newer "orange" style race plates that have a beefier base ( same as ibex I think )
