  1. Phenix is into the three piece splits. http://www.phenix-snowboards.com/Snowboards/spx-173-all-wood.html http://www.phenix-snowboards.com/Snowboards/frx-162-all-wood.html http://www.phenix-snowboards.com/Snowboards/frx-159-all-wood.html
  2. Ron won. Bruce made everybody laugh. Both Frank's and Sean's boards were badass.
  3. I reached carving nirvana. Thanks to Bomber and everybody that showed up to make it a great session.
  4. Ride Insano boots with dual Boa (one for the foot, one for the cuff) with a liner that has a draw string. I love these things. I'm never going back to laces. I find it easy to get a good fit as you can tighten the Boa a little bit at a time. I tighten them when I put them on and then after a run or two give them another few clicks and I'm good. Also, I'm a big dude (250 lbs) and the Boa system has held up just fine.
  5. I use the WC model Booster strap. I weigh 250lbs (113kg) and have Head Stratos Pro boots. I really like the Booster Strap. I can tighten down the top of the boot which makes it feel like I've added another buckle. Also, I like the Booster Straps better than the stock velcro strap because I can get the Booster Strap tighter than the stock velcro strap due to stretching the elastic in the Booster Strap. FWIW, I put the strap the outside of the boot shell and tongue.
  6. It sounds like your rear foot might be biased too much toward the heel which would weight the heel side edge slightly more and cause a skid toward the toe side. Try adjusting your binding to bias the boot toward the toe side edge.
  7. Getting a base grind would likely level it out again.
  8. I had a similar injury to my back foot ankle in a toe side turn a couple years ago. For me it was an injury to the smooth cartilage in my ankle joint and tendon sprains. One thing I would suggest checking is if you are getting any heel lift. Heel lift is a bad thing. Wearing your boots tighter around the ankle will help. Getting some liners molded will help even more. Heel lift was a big factor in my injury. When I got into that toe side turn and happened to get some chatter I started to loose the edge contact with the snow. The board started catching and releasing from the snow and my heel lifted and then dropped repeatedly causing the injury.
  9. If you don't have enough length on the plate ask Bomber about TD3 Long Plates (super secret product available by request only). I wear size M30 boots the regular plates are not long enough. Due to punching out the shells I need the long plates to get the boot bias set correctly over the board.
  10. I would agree with Sean. I think the lack of support for older riders started in the early 2000's. For instance in the late 90's K2 had a lot of big boards and wider boards (Eldorado, Fat Bob, Trucker) and a number of products for backcountry use. In the early 2000's all that went away. Look now at most of the mainstream manufacturer's lines and you won't find anything in those larger sizes. How does their stuff work for anybody bigger than a young teenager? What if the grown ups want to play? I've been confused by this one for a while.
  11. People are nice enough. I think it's that Americans are so damn clueless about hardbooting. I get lots of... What is that? Are those ski boots? Is that hard? Are those bindings easier than snowboard bindings? etc etc I'm sure it doesn't help that at Hoodoo, the local hill where I ride the most, I'm the only hardbooter besides my wife (and she only puts in a third of the days that I do). Most of the time I am a good ambassador for carving and chat with them but sometimes I just want to ride and not answer the same questions over and over. Time to start handing out the "this is hardbooting" cards.
  12. I had to laugh as I heard this one again... Me: These are snowboard boots. Skier: Are you sure? All humor aside, is anybody getting tired of the barrage of questions? I'm thinking I need to learn a few phrases in Russian so people will leave me alone.
  13. Confirming tongue stiffness: Orange is least stiff Black is medium Silver is most stiff
  14. 6'3", 35" inseam, 20.75" stance width.
  15. I weigh 250lbs. No BTS. Silver race tongues with Deeluxe Thermo Flex Liners DCL 131. They feel just about right to me.
  16. I'd be wary of old plastic. Somebody else might want to weigh in on this but these bindings look pretty old.
  17. Oh, about a week ago it stopped snowing long enough for the groom to set up. I've put in three days on the Nirvana. Each day better than the last. Can't wait to ride it this weekend.
  18. On speed lacing systems: The Boa lacing system is fantastic. This is my second season on Ride soft boots with it. I don't miss laces one bit. My boots have the Focus Boa which is one cable for the foot and one for the boot cuff. I really like being able to adjust the tightness of the foot and cuff separately. The Boa system does loosen up after a couple runs but it is no trouble to tighten as needed. I usually end up tightening mine a couple times and then don't have to touch it again.
  19. Custom Coiler Nirvana with custom topsheet graphic (shown from the nose). Haven't ridden it yet... too much powder out here in Oregon!
  20. I sold you some Flows? I tested a bit of gear to transition off of Clickers. I was a big fan. Now I'm using the GNU Backdoor bindings (which is actually the Fastec binding from SP) and Ride Insano boots. I like my setup now but I still miss being able to click into my back binding while on the chair.
