  1. I have no preference of board width as of yet, but I can say the turned up tail absolutely aides in a board's useability. Having about 2seasons on 2different swallowtail boards one a converted freeride board with an upturned tail and the other a 4807 with a flat tail about .5cm tail height. The converted board is easier to "deal" with. Rather there is less worry about what monouvers I can perform like the necessary switch riding to navigate crowds or bump covered steeps and trees. So more useable? I think more versatile and fun. J
  2. Ouch. Luckily you cought it before anything worse happened. You said misdiagnosed...did someone look at it previously, or had you not take it that seriously? J edit...never mind I rered the first two lines. Was it the same Doc?
  3. I have some Sazukas (04/05) and the liners are not thermoflex. They are I guess stock liners. Anyway, they have a hard plastic tongue that runs down the shin area of the liner. fit and confort is fine but question is the thermoflex liners it appears they don't have this feature, nor do the Intuition's or the Zipfit (that I can see in pics). Does this affect the shin comfort at all switching to these higher end liners? My current ones are non-heat moldable (as far as I know). Also do most of you remove the liners from the shell after use for them to dry out? Does this cramming uncramming them in and out of the shells affect them packing out faster? J
  4. good grief, talk about pow snobs. J

  6. Looking out at Turnagin Arm Village of Girdwood Groomers and bumps What I dream about at night I just copied and pasted the image from your linked page. It seems like the flickr site won't let you directly link/embed the pic in the typical fashion. I tried to do that first but I just got red "x". Awesome pics nonetheless. J
  7. do you tenderize your food before eating? J

    Bay Area Quake

Anyone feel it? Just felt it while staring at the wall. Heard a low pop/boom like someone upstairs dropped a shoe...then a little shaking. Nothing too bad 4.2. Btw, I was 19 miles away. Link J
  9. some more back up...same seller Ebay J
  10. www.tognar.com has a bunch of bootfitting items. Heel lifts, sole shims in 1/8" and 3/16", 3types of heel cradles (self adhesive) slimming shims for the forefoot, tongue pads, and self adhesive foam like you used on your tongue mod. and much more. J
  11. thanks Dr. I'll look into it. I've an appt. tomorrow before work. I'll see what my doc thinks. SanPablo is in the SF Bayarea just N of Richmond/San Rafael bridge. San Pablo J
  12. Bamboo that makes things clearer. Sounds like you learn by reading...one of the things I can't do very well I just sort of wing it and refine bits here and there. My gf learns like you and got a lot from a book she had read when she started out. Mostly basic stuff but she was shutting down when I tried to teach her. You get more snow time than I do and that's great. Keep it up and who knows by next season you should be ready for hardboots and plates...throw in a SES and you're good to go. One thing I found I need to work on is leaning into the turn...the look to where you want to go instead of where you were. Bring the rear hand up front near front foot/knee. That's what I'll be working this weekend. I manage that fine toeside but heelside goes to sh** I've been sitting on the toilet too much. J
  13. thanks everyone for the advice...and some of the info I could hav edone without...Shred. i think I'll see my doc tomorrow. It doesn't hurt any more but I had never had a muslcle pull/strain that ended up this way. Anyway sorry if my avatar offends...I actually do give a damn. Well sometimes Ido. J
  14. that suks, you may try over at tahoecarvers as well. Some people I've found don't list everything they may have for sale...so a post may drum up some business. J
  15. So last weekend (Sat) I bailed in such amanner worthy of an Oscar in some of the fluffy fluff and pulled a muscle in my arm. I think it runs under the bicept from armpit to elbow...possibly one of the tricepts. Anyway, it hurt like a typical pulled muscle or a real bad cramp. Rode the rest of the day and was still able to use it but raising my arm over myhead took a few minutes. It's feeling better...a lot better now but today I noticed a bruise from armpit to elbow in the same area of the origional pain. I have never pulled a muscle this bad and am not sure if I need to see a doc about this. I know there are a few around here (I think) that may be able to help with some advice. Here is a pic with link to larger image (click pic):The area outlined is the bruised area. any suggestions? I've tried ice but should I see my Doc? J

  17. Welcome, I'm with 2board here and suggest a lesson...private lesson. For a few reasons, I'm skeptical about what level you are really at. Don't take this the wrong way but you have only been riding for 2months, are on intermediate-advanced freeride gear, and jib at angles of 32/26 (considerably high by soft boot standards but rather mellow by hardbooter eyes), and are carving and poppin air between turns on edge change? This all seems like a good fishing story. Be that as it may I have a few unanswered q's: How often do you ride? Are you carving, or just not skidding so much? Did you take a beginner lesson? Again, I'm not trying to come off as an a@# but I have this picture in my head of a horse trying to push a cart uphill... J
  18. Personally I like the Dreamraider as it is available in the 170 for longer eff edge 135cm. It's a tad wider but has 4mm taper and more setback for a bit more all matn versatility. The Firestarter has built in 4mm risers and Titanium SPB's and is narrower also has slightly deeper sidecut than the Dreamraider. You say not really looking for pow deck and with hardboots I'd say the Firestarter looks more like the winner. The Dreamraider is Atomic's boarderX board. Never had hands on either but I was looking at the Dreamraider before I picked up hardboots and bindings. J
  19. I missed that part, why wasn't it on ebay.ca then? J
  20. That's funny and thanks but by long I meant time period...should have been more clear. Was trying to gauge possibility of finding one still "living". Killer base though... J
  21. argh, 12more cm's and I'd be all over it. How long did they make Alpine boards? J
  22. Ok, if you see no bids from "goldentaco" then feel free to proceed on the early one as well. Still trying to decide if I really need a second set. Board they were to go on may be taken off hardboot status and downgraded to softies and powder only. J
  23. I had planned on bidding on them later on but I will just the auction. Good luck. J
  24. tahoe, I'm making an assumption here based on my set of snowpros I just got from Dan at Upzboots. The metal center disk has no splines that mate with the bottom binding plate. Under the center disk is a hard rubber gasket that makes a friction lock of the particular binding angle you preset to. Under the disk the plate has four semi circular grooves that allow for angle adjustment whtiout removing screws. The range on mine (Race LTD) is roughly 25deg - 65/70 deg even though it's stamped on the plate from 15-75. The friction fit is quite strong and actually takes a bit of effort to undo when you need to change it...that's a good thing imho. SOmeone here recommended the "Race" lines here for me (200lbs). Currently there are no 3d disks for them but look on here for a way to mount them to Burton boards and view of the friction plate. J
  25. I've seen that one, though tex was talking about more than one circle at the same time...2ina row on same edge more or less. I manage 1 out of 10 toeside, with most ending at about 280-300deg...heelsides aren't as precise and harder to set up ( look uphill for turnaphobics) and only manage 270deg at best. J
