  1. Cool, my gf uses Pandora. I haven't checked it out yet. We use E-music. If you liked my list check out Greyboy(DJ Greyboy) or the Greyboy Allstars, RJD2 (aka DJ Shadow), and The Bongolian. J
  2. Ditto same setup but sans nano. I think I too spend the fall making my new "soundtrack" Lots of Grant Green, Gotan Project, Fez Dispenser, Nitin Sawhney, Thievery Corp. and of course "the man in black" to enhance the tree riding. If I'm jonesing for the old timey stuff I'll toss in some Jimbo Trout too. I keep the vol just so I can hear the music and I can still hear the straight liners coming from behind. Oh and the look uphill every third turn doesn't hurt either. J
  3. I've used Nidecker Pro 800, Atomic Zombie, and Drake F50's on mine. I liked the Nideckers the best ( as a binding) but on that deck I Prefered the Atomics since they were lighter. I have size 13 boots and also used a Palmer riser plate...I think the 5 or 10mm one. That didn't eliminate heel out for me. Toes were ok, but I'd get one or the other. That's why I switched to Hardboots. On my powder decks, I prefer a softer softboot binding. J
  4. An account that my employer services produces produces test media for the biotech industry. As his side project he uses anerobic bacteria to produce Hydrogen. Says he gets veggie scraps for free from a local Dole processing plant, feeds his baby bacteria that live in beer brewing equipment he got off Ebay this veggie matter and they produce Hydrogen as a byproduct. The sad part is he's pitched the idea to get funding to some govt. agencies and the like and they all say "it can't be done" and has been threatened with legal recourse if he continues to contact them. He has the capacity to produce enough Hydrogen to power (electrically) his building if needed. It's sad to think how many other "start-ups" and backyard scientists haven't or won't ever start-up because they've never been given a chance. J
  5. They look very similar to Snowpros...non Race model. J
  6. I wouldn't waste the money on that. In a length you're thinking that stuff doesn't have any real stiffness. It'd only be secured at the binding screws I'm guessing it would either buckle between the bindings, break between the bindings, or be so stiff between the bindings the board wouldn't ride right. That's all if you precisely drill the holes so there isn't much slop. If you enlarge the holes to make lining up easier, then you're relying on the stiffness of the material alone which is minimal at that length and not too resilient over long periods. Not trying to be angle of death to your project, just more like Jiminey Cricket and Jim Rome's lovechild. You could try a separate layup (so it's removeable) of fiberglass or Carbon fiber that you could mount under bindings. More layers more stiff. I think Madd or F2 had/has something like this. Maybe someone can correct me on that. J
  7. Blue, it definitely softened the tail flex. I always felt the board was not well balanced...tail way stiff, nose wayy soft. To get the tail softer pre-operation I moved bindings forward but that just overloaded the nose. I've been told the 178 would have been a better suit for my weight but I didn't have the option of the 178 at the time so I made lemonade. I just rode it too hard on the groom because I really liked how it carved. It worked great for a whole season in softies. Float, it also helped the float a bit and though I could ride it stock with a more centered stance I was even more comfy on it as it is now. Bottom line it was designed to have the cutout Osin gave it. 2" further back I'd bet money that it would have been fine. Re: end cut, I'd be terrified to put it anywhere near the inserts. My first homeade was the Eldorado. I decided on 5" from inserts and it worked on the Eldo but I never put HB's on it and hadn't rode it very hard either. It's my early season beeter but the cut did improve its powder riding ability 100% no rear leg burn ever. The Eldo is also way more flexy overall and in the tail than the 4807 and I think that plays into the end cut location equation as well. It was an experiment and it worked but needs a few tweaks. J
  8. ...including post-op 4807. Below material removed fitted back into place for reference. Should have located apex back 2" for better strength. J
  9. Yes...I think. It went under the knife to soften up the tail and sink more in the Sierra cement we get. It was fine before the operation and the mod provided the results I intended but... once adding hb's and carving it up on the groom, my 200lbs (already too much for the 168) stressed my heelside tail and I got a horizontal crack at the apex of the cut. Seems my incision stretched into a less reinforced area of the board. It's still rideable but on injured reserve currently. I'm thinking of picking up some vacuum bag supplies and adding a layer or two of Carbon Fiber I got laying around to the tail to revitalize it. We'll see how ambitious I get this winter. I just got a 192 Tanker for pow so I'm not missing much other than the novelty of that board. Pics approaching. J
  10. that's funny, I may have the only (or one of few) true 4807 ST in existence. Pics coming soon once my dig cam charger gets here... J
  11. Magistral any update on Miura? J
  12. All systems go. Got the job and will be training from Mar 9th - Apr 4th. I'll see how my schedule looks but probably ride somewhere on the weekends. I have a rental car so getting around shouldn't be an issue. J
  13. I actually prefer sometimes to ride fakie now in hb's...it seems somewhat easier even though I'm turned further back. On my 4807 (swallow tail with little upturn) you just have to make sure you keep weight back and not initiate on the front leg at all. It helps if the snow isn't rutted, tracked and soft. I remember one day cliping in at the top of the lift a group of teenagers were straping in. I had my 4807 out and I could over hear them discussing it's shape. The loudest comment (being the last one) was "...yeah but you can't ride switch on it" to which I started out regular spun around fakie and proceded to carve down the run a bit. ( Not spectacular) but I glanced back to see confused looks on their faces and then turned off into the woods for some pow. J
  14. Check out www.tahoecarvers.com and let us/them know when you're thinking of riding. There are a few guys living in Sac you may be able to pair up with or at the least hook up and ride. From the base you're around 3.3.5 hrs from the Lake. North Lake Sugarbowl is the best closest spot with Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows just 20 min further. South Lake has Heavenly and gambling and Kirkwood a 40 min ride from Southlake (probably 3.5 hrs from the base). For a daytrip, I'd recommend Sugarbowl or Alpine, they're my two other fav's besides Kirkwood. ALpine has some of the most fun terrain (natural dips, berms, and rollers...just lots of fun and it's pretty big. Greater skier population as it was the last of the Lake resorts to allow boarders. As for weather, look at interstate 80 for North Lake areas and road closures. Hwy 50 if you're heading to South Lake. Google caltrans and search the road for closures http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi . Routes... Alpine, Squaw, and Sugarbowl take 80E to 89S towards North Lake Tahoe resorts. For Heavenly or Kirkwood take 50E towards South Lake... For Kirkwood after 50E you come over the pass into the South Lake area (you'll know it) a mile later take 89S (turn right) to Kirkwood and Markleeville. Turn right onto 88W to Kirkwood. Heavenly after 50E stay on 50E(turn right to stay on it in South Lake), follow to Stateline, you'll see Heavenly Watch the weather, you may need chains if it is raining in the valley over Donner summit (80E) or over Echo Summit (50E) and Luther Pass (89/88 to Kirkwood). If you can swing it, it'll be well worth it. We just got over 12 ft of snow and most if not all resorts are 100% open. J
  15. Try www.iwindsurf.com they just updated their forum style to one like here, it alsohas some good wind info. Lots of chitter chatter, mostly North America so not so much chatter now. Also, www.seabreaze.com.au (Australian currently in summer now so lots going on), http://www.boards.co.uk/forum/default.asp out of the UK, Exocet ans Starboard both have them as well as www.gpsspeed-surfing.com if you're into speed. rec.windsurfing on google groups is still active. Windsurfing Magazine forum is probably the least active and not really indicative of windsurfing in general. J The two sports are similar niches though.
  16. ...maybe just turn rear angle a tad higher ~3-5deg. low angles and too much heel lift? J

    Hertel Wax

I just started with the Hertel Hot Sauce too. Only have one day on it and I was happy with it. Granted it was a 3ft pow day at Bridger...I could still haul with it towards the end. What I liked most about it so far is it wetts out into the base much better than some Swix, Dakine, Ethica/Hillbilly (actually way better than the Ethica). I'll be using it throughout the season exclusively on my board (and likely my gf's too) so I will be able to tell its all-purposeabilities later on. So far, I like its "tooling" (application and scraping). J
  18. It worked to align me with the players I agree with most, but put the candidate I will probably vote for lower down on the list. J

    Winter driving

Ha! I was that statistic last Sat coming through Idaho from Montana. Hit a slippery patch at the same time a gust about 40mph hit my truck. Rear end swing around and we slid off into the ditch about 8 miles from where we were gonna get gas (Idaho Falls). Went in (the ditch) clean but being 2wd had no way to get out. Truck and everyone was fine but my dogs in the back were like WTF? I hadn't seen them that confused since the day we started packing just prior to stuffing their beds in the back of my truck. Stupid thing wa s8others were in the same ditch within 1mile on either side of us and the tow truck drivers were like "Yup, it's windy and slick." Meanwhile the plows are cruising around full of sand and not dropping a grain . Worst roads I'd seen were in Idaho. Nv, CA (Sierras), UT, and MT were perfect (well UT and MT) CA and NV had some ice but the plows were dropin sand. OH BTW, I said "F***"....not Sh8t J
  20. We appreciate your hospitality Dave. I think that was the best snow I've had the pleasure of linking turns on. We'll look you up next time we're in town. J
  21. Good info guys. I'd love to explore Big Sky but this year I think our budget is gonna send us to Bridger. Dave, I'll get a hold of you off line once I'm up there. Still leaning to hit Bridger on 26th. I'm not too sure which board to bring along. 4807, A-Frame (can ride anywhere), or my new to me Renntiger I have yet to ride. I really want to get out on the Renn but I don't want to be stuck unable to explore. I could bring all 3 since I'm driving but chances are I'll only use one of them. WHat do you think? J
