  1. that arbor's a softie, needs some burton/ibex binders.
  2. I wasnt aware sean did swallows. good to keep in mind though...
  3. 700s are the same shape, just with buckles. the 325s are the same mold as the lemans, just stiffer and with buckles. the 225s are basically lemans with buckles.
  4. You have to do a bit of investigating, but if you click on the big tall alpine board in the top rack you get a picture of a speed record being broken. also clicking on the airplane looking thing above the fooseball table gives you a picture of insanity.
  5. The volkl that set the speed record was that (with air slots cut out of the nose to reduce drag)
  6. Steve here, I started when I was 16, Nick and Andrew (dont really post here anymore) started earlier (Nick wayy earlier i think). 19 now, and got my friend Garecht into it (at 17) last year. He's ParagonUE on here.
  7. To answer the question: NO. anyone who says otherwise is lying. The push-pull extension doesnt hold on icy slopes. Carving on ice requires a technique all its own, relying on angulation and it doesnt allow for full extension over the slope (or really any extension over the slope). To be able to carve successfully, crossing the fall line and not put any skid in is a feat in itself on an icy slope. Anyone who can perform EC on ice is welcome to demonstrate and maybe even give me a "how-to" this sunday night at Jiminy peak, I would be excited to learn. If the weather report is accurate, it should be glistening just like SWriverstone's hockey rink.
  8. great conditions can make the worst stinkbug-style carver seem competent. More importantly, all the skill in the world will not make sheer ice pleasant for me to snowboard on. Having to hold back on laid turns and riding with extreme precision 100% of the time is frustrating, and i would like to leave my frustrations back home. Conditions can make or break the day.
  9. Awesome photo! where did you ride friday? i was up at Jiminy w/my girlfriend, but didnt see you there. We left around 1 because we were tired after 4 hours of slush. She decided she was going to be brave and so i took her down whirlaway first thing that morning:eplus2: She was so scared she almost backed out at the top, but she made it all the way down and wanted to go on it again, so we wound up riding whirlaway, ace of spades, whitetail, the foxes, north glade, noreaster, and jerico to bear crossing that day! Shed never been on a black diamond before that:smashfrea
  10. Im going to boycot the SES next year because of this thread. I think this is going to hurt bomber so bad that they will likely send me free gear, sponsor me at all my events, and make me the next shuan white to try and get me to come the next year. I have never been to an SES.:p
  11. my girlfriend runs her lange exclusive on my alpine board with excellent results... although she's a beginner so i dont think she could tell the difference:p I do feel at times my snowboard boots dont give me the lateral support i want, maybe because i have the deeluxe T325s with the weak cant adjuster. Does the T700(AF) shell offer a lot more lateral support?
  12. you anywhere near albany this friday? ill be riding Jiminy peak on the boarder of Mass tomorrow. That'll definately have some ice you can experiment with! ohh, and judging by your textbook carving images on BOL, the only tweak that would benefit you on ice in my opinion is to bring your upper body in and up and keep it over your board instead of extending it out, more simmilar to mike T's body position in his avatar photo.
  13. I find the most important part about riding ice is to angulate! and also putting much more cross-under into the cross-through helps as well. I always miss the "totally laid" feeling when im riding ice, but anything close to a double arm carve is impossible to do on ice with any confidence. I find that i wind up bringing my board to my inside hand and my outside hand basically never touches the snow because my body stays above the board and doesnt extend outside like we tend to do in good snow. Not to doubt your ability but i dont think youll ever successfully rail like in your avatar picture on ice, Eric! Thats snow style, not ice;)
  14. I'll be up at jiminy this weekend, probably friday night
  15. Pow

    I'll start

Finally got another riding picture this season... But its still not quite what i was hoping for! About halfway between the initiation and the apex, so a split second or two away... and a bit blurry.
  16. not this weekend... this ones gonna be spent at Okemo. how was it anyway? we got some snow then sleet then snow so icy or crusty or carvable or what??

    Worst Beer

i cant believe anyone hasnt mentioned natty ice yet:confused: natural ice is way worse than pbr, busch, keystone, you name it. its at the bottom of the cheap beers.
  18. after reading up on it, i really dont think that spider's gonna help the board flex right even if the spider is designed to flex because unlike the anton glider there is no component underneath the spider to pressure the board into a decamber... so hows the board gonna bend? (what dan said) and the edges of the center cutout are raised higher than the board's edges to "make edge changes quicker and smoother"!! wouldnt this make edge changes slower and more awkward? and wouldnt you wind up getting tripped up on wierd inside edges? And why are the nose and tail blunt? i cant wait to see this one in action
  19. does the spider itself flex or is it rigid? if it flexes it looks like it might behave a lot like the anton gliders which make carving on skis really easy. if its rigid it just seems like a gimmick to me:confused:
  20. ive been riding jiminy peak for 5 years now and never payed full price theyre crazy with the deals they have.
  21. the "make garecht carve the downhill edge on ice" challenge
  22. They do bottom out, but at high angles, w/risers, on a wide board, this problem can be minimized. its annoying to try to set your board on the heelside edge and instead you just set your bindings down and slide:confused: To fix this problem, i actually rotated the center disks so that the longest chain of insert holes went across the width of the board instead of the tall way and shifted the bindings towards the toeside edge. I was a bit wary of this at first because i figured it would cause balance/leverage issues, but it was no detriment to my riding and actually helped the heel-out a lot. just my .02, from my experience with softy stuff that i used to ride but dont even touch anymore. BTW, new flows have ratchet straps integrated in their setup (and their metal binding looks really sick) so i think the issue with not being able to ratchet down as hard might be solved now. http://www.flow.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=86&Itemid=80
  23. I read that and thought hot/hammer too. how are they doing, anyway? I havnt heard much news of them lately.
  24. No Jack, thats not me but... erm... I taught him everything he knows? Ok so I'm a bad liar, but yeah that makes sense too. at high angles of inclanation i can imagine it would be difficult to keep the outside ski on the snow because of your inside foot getting in the way of your outside leg as well...
  25. I dont feel asym SCRs on boards are necessary, but I think carving skiis would benefit from it. It makes sense to me because the outside ski will always carve a slightly larger radius than the inside ski, so why not make the inside sidecuts larger than the outside sidecuts so both skiis are carving the radius they should to provide a completely smooth turn? When i see videos of extreme ski carving, the outside ski always seems to wobble violently, I think asym sidecuts might solve this for skiiers. example here: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5sGvthsclw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5sGvthsclw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
