  1. I think you are right that a change in thinking is on the way for some. I have and ride a 196 nitro drew hicken swallowtail on the really deep days. I also ride a 168 osin 4807 from the front binding forward they are almost identical in rocker and length. The biggest difference is that the tails are chopped short on the osin. I think a directional board approach has to concentrate on nose design and the long rocker is the key. the osin is stiff out as far as the effective edge extends and then soft to the tip whereas the nitro is soft all over. I think the stiff effective edge is important for control especially on a shorter board. the nitro is screaming fast and stable at speed but harder to control at slower speeds. I know daveredman loves his prior swallowtail that is a little narrower and stiffer than the regular version. Its a hardboot design but I think the stiffer edges make it more controlable across the speed range without losing the high speed stability the long tails provide. for all of them a long rocker soft nose is crucial. the long rocker keeps the nose off the snow in a carve as well negating most of the soft nose problems found in carving. my .02:lurk:
  2. looks like an OSIN 3800 and they are a hoot. another similiar ride is the atomic radon. The Dynastar legend or karma would also be close.
  3. any soft boot carvers out there that have tried a dupraz? I may be worrying this to death but the more input I get from diverse groups the more I think I can make a good decision without actually being there to flex and or ride the boards.
  4. I can't fly to colorado just to flex a board though:rolleyes: Unless Bola is truly a trusting supremely cool guy and wants to send me both for a test flex and have me send one back:D I am going to give it the good old fashioned guess.
  5. interested in parting with the 4807? They are currently my quiver killer. I am always looking for a back up. I am thinking the D1+ is probably the one for me as well. If you try the 4807 again ride it as far back as you can. the center of the effective edge is all the way back in the inserts on the 168 and maybe one notch forward on the 178. IT totally changes the ride.
  6. I guess anyone who has ridden the 4807 and liked it and has tried the dupraz should chime in as well. I can carve the 4807 well and from the description I believe the dupraz is built much the same. stiff tail soft nose etc. am I wrong?
  7. I am kinda used to that feel since I ride the 4807 a lot. I am kinda looking to get the same sort of feeling.
  8. I can't find the thread with all of Bola's good dupraz advice. I love my 4807's and am wanting to get a Dupraz. I ride the dynastar 178 version of the 4807 well and its a little stiffer feeling than the osin version. I am 6'4" and 275 lbs D1 D1+ or D1++ 6footer? I will probably ride it with both hard and soft boots. mainly with malamutes and catek freerides at 45ish degrees. help me out Bola which one do I want? email me a price on them as well if you are still carrying them.
  9. Funniest thing I ever saw! I came over the top of the hill by my house one day and saw this guy coming up the hill on his moped, like I did on many other days. He weighs in at about 350 lbs wearing a greasy wife beater Tshirt and similiarly stained overalls. Lets call it a significant challenge for your average moped. Today he is on a date. Yes he has his girlfriend or maybe its his gorilla friend , anyway she outweighs him by at least 50 lbs and they are both on the moped attempting to reach the summit of this hill. you cannot see much of the moped since its hidden under two sets of size XXXXXXL overalls. It looks like the guy is pushing one of those measuring wheels up the hill since all you can see is the front tire. there is a massive amount of black smoke billowing out of the "woman's" ass ( the rings were clearly outmatched and near failure) both riders had their feet outstretched in sort of a training wheel maneuver since the whole thing was moving at approx 3 mph under full throttle. I nearly hit a tree as I drove in the ditch I was laughing so hard:lol::lol::lol: gotta love the south:eplus2: them carolina folks is funny:ices_ange
  10. No but I went to grad school in South Cackalackey and the Moped gangs down there were a vicious bunch! One DUI gets you a moped for transportation down there. I think I met this guy on the freeway regularly:ices_ange
  11. Hey I think I know that guy!:lol::lol:
  12. I think I can say with confidence that Lard is better for you then some of the "fryer oils" that are in common usage out there.

    SL deck

I rode mine with catek freerides and softies if that gives you an idea. I found it to be much softer flex wise. my GS is softer than most of the identity GS due to it being a one off designed for a plate. I rode jon's personal GS and it was a Clydesdale killer compared to mine. I love them because the geometry of the sidecut is so smooth and fluid. The Doneks I have ridden felt like cement trucks compared to a ferrari. We all have our preferences so its hard to make a recomendation to someone else thats valid. you probably just need to ride it.

I have an identity 162 slalom with maybe 2 days on the snow. Fun as hell but to little for me I can't keep up with it. Red with white fingerprint logo. Ask Brian from OSB about the brand and the ride. He likes the longer ones but he may have ridden a slalom at some point.
  15. and so it begins....... no snow in july or august this year bummer:eplus2:
  16. Pocket Taser Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife. A guy who purchased his lovely wife a pocket Taser for their anniversary submitted this: Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse-sized taser. The effects of the taser were supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety....? ? WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home. I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the but ton AND pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs. AWESOME!!! Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave. Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two triple-A batteri es, right? There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong? So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, & nbsp;directions in one hand, and taser in another. The directions said that a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries. All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference; pretty cute really and (loaded with two itsy, bitsy triple-A batteries) thinking to myself, "no possible way!" What happened next is al most beyond description, but I'll do my best...? I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side as to say, " don't do it dip****," reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny little ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad. I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and . . . HOLY MOTHER OF GOD . . WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION . . . WHAT THE HELL!!! I'm pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs? The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room. Note: If you ever feel compelled to "mug" yourself with a taser, one note of caution: there is no such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor. A three second burst would be considered conservative? SON-OF-A-BITCH, THAT HURT LIKE HELL!!! A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was. My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. I had no control over the drooling. Apparently I **** myself, but was too numb to know for sure and my sense of smell was gone.; I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head which I believe was came from my hair. I'm still looking for my nuts and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return!! P. S. My wife loved the gift, and now regularly threatens me with it! "If you think Education is difficult, try being stupid."
  17.:lol::lol: reminds me of the guy who bought a stun gun for his wife and thought it needed tested before he gave it to her. We are laughing with you not at you :lol::lol:
  18. anybody actually ride this thing? if it works it seems to me that it would be more for varied densities and snow pack off piste rather than the be all end all board for pow and groom.

  20. triker that pegleg is badass For the record all painkillers retard the healing process, motrin just specifically retards bone growth more than some of the others. ITs your pain but you will heal faster the quicker you can dump the meds. good luck and good healing.
  21. how about some of you eastern folks who haven't seen powder before? could be a good trip. another idea is a friday trip up to Turner bowl at libby. Its a little known powder destination. If we have interest I can see about transportation etc. Its very cheap there is only one chair (it used to be the lower 48's longest Tbar) But it services a huge area that is primarily untracked powder. think of it as lift serviced back country boarding. Its only open friday saturday and sunday so fridays are primo if it snowed at all during the week. Its about an hour and a half or so up the highway so it would mean an early morning drive etc. let me know if we have any interest. There is often fewer than 30 people on the mountain. If there is enough interest we could rent the mountain on thursday and it would just be us.
  22. Yeah some of you rafters and kayakers should work up a summer trip as well. The north fork and middle fork of the flathead are spectacular rafting locales and down here in Bigfork on the lake we have the Wild Mile. Wild mile is a memorial day event for kayakers that is class 4 or class 5 depending on the year. Its a series of races and other kayaking events from the dam to the lake. good stuff.
  23. Last years almanac forecasted 13 major snow events which we recieved. this years almanac says 21 major snow events. Let the POW fest begin:eplus2:
