west carven Posted August 23, 2015 Report Share Posted August 23, 2015 smoke report: sat aug 22, 2015 howdy all wow what a difference a day makes, yesterday was thick smoke then a front from the north comes down about 5pm and clears the smoke out and this morning clear blue sky sunshine. so had to take advantage and went for a long paddle, my longest to date, almost to the other end, but with the wind on my back and getting stronger i turned around just past eagle point. the wind was in my face all the way back. started about 11:30am and got back just past 5pm. forcast is the smoke to return tomorrow... here's a pic of my route... west carven Posted August 24, 2015 Report Share Posted August 24, 2015 smoke report: mon aug 24, 2015 howdy all went up to big mountain to pay for my season pass. caught the free shuttle with my beach cruiser. rode the gondola up to the summit and walked around and to my suprise they are doing a huge remodel on the summit house. they have added a pitched roof and a second floor on the front with a faux rock front and a new skipatrol shack. too bad it was smokey like thursday's pic above, could not see whitefish lake from the summit. rode the chair down to the base lodge then rode my cruiser down big mountain road, took my time and went slow and walked some cause the last time i did it my coaster brake got really hot. watched some of the kids riding their mountain bikes down and it looked like fun... hummm... need mountain bike... west carven Posted September 2, 2015 Report Share Posted September 2, 2015 smoke report: tue sep 01, 2015 howdy all today was amazing... what a beautiful day, no smoke even on the horizon all around. blue skies and puffy clouds and a good wind that kept things cool. so went for a power paddle and went about half way around the lake. not too many boats as most people are gone cause the kids are back to school. paddled hard for five hours... goodtimes! That's a salutary lesson in why I am yet to take on gap jumps. Hopefully he'll post up with details on what the surgeons thought. Guess you don't know your limits until you hit them ... hard. west carven Posted October 26, 2015 Report Share Posted October 26, 2015 snowreport: mon oct 26, 2015 howdy all well, i'm calling it the summer that never ended... it has been nice till today, alittle cloudy and alittle chilly, but still not that cold. still no snow on the hill, 40 days and 40 nights till opening day so old man winter better wake up, but maybe he died in his sleep and we will never see snow again... here's a pic of the baselodge about 4pm, at lease we have some wet weather, finally!... Not even any rain to speak of in the city for the last few weeks, although there has been intermittent snow to the west. All the mountain bikers are still out tearing it up, and complaining that the trails are dusty - and the current weather is forecast to last at least another week. At least it's got cold enough to convince me to pack the motorcycle away. They were reporting a skiff of snow in Banff today. I don't think they're going to make a mid- Nov opening though. west carven Posted November 26, 2015 Report Share Posted November 26, 2015 snowreport: thu nov 26, 2015 howdy all Happy Thanksgiving!... snowed an inch here in town on tuesday and temps are getting colder because of clear skies. today beautiful bluebird skies and very cold. way down south got some good dumping, but here not so much. forecast for this week is sunny and cold. i think bigsky opens today and we will open on december 5. i'm thinking it will be delayed a week or more. still a lot of grass showing... i am thankful it is ski season... woohoo!... i'm ready... west carven Posted December 1, 2015 Report Share Posted December 1, 2015 snowreport: mon nov 30, 2015 howdy all my computer died on Friday night, the hard drive is fried. this is my first post with new computer, just picked it up tonight. don't like it now, but i'll get used to it. much more good stuff inside so things run faster. well, not too much to report as far as snow goes, it's been cold, but forecast is a little warm up by opening day. I think they will only open the backside (chair 7 and 11) and maybe chair 3 and chair 6 for sure because it is the link to the baselodge. not really excited, yet... west carven Posted December 6, 2015 Report Share Posted December 6, 2015 snowreport: sat dec 05, 2015 howdy all opening day... everybody not too excited, but happy to be making some turns. did a few runs on chair 6 before chair 1 opens, chair 6 had good coverage from the man made snow. nice compfy temps and mostly sunny, going up chair 1 you could see how little snow we have. the backside only chair 7 was running and only caribou, whitetail and goat haunt was open. there was so many little pine trees and little bushes all over the runs. I was surprised that they did open. did a bunch of runs then went back to chair 6 and looked at chair 3 which they made snow and groomed it good and only a few people was on it so I did a bunch more runs there, it was good carving snow. pushed it pretty good for the first day and i'm feeling it now. oh yeah, had to download on chair 1... rode the amp5 softies from 9 till 1... west carven Posted December 7, 2015 Report Share Posted December 7, 2015 snowreport: sun dec 06, 2015 howdy all worked in the morning, but got cut loose early so up to the big and got on snow about 1pm. went straight to chair 3 and it was a little chewed up, but still carved good. high grey overcast, but vis was good and temps was compfy. started to snow pretty good just after 2pm, kinda wet snow and halfway down the mountain going home and in town it was raining. people are finding out that chair 3 is a good place to be... forecast is more warm wet weather all this week... rode the 157fp from 1 till 3...
