that yours Neil?

lucky lucky man. you're the only person I've seen with one off of the east coast. the only people that have told me they have seen or ridden a original 180 were gilmore and some of the stratton guys.

Soon hopefully. I'm working on it. :)

I have heard the #'s of those are SUPER small.

The metal revolution is great, but if i could buy new "original Madds" I'd have 2 in every length (at least). Seriously. I would not change anything.

I'm old, and old school, I don't race (respect the hell outta those dudes, JJA KILLS it) but the boards ride really well.

I want a new (old) 170.

Hey, I'm trying to do the exact same thing! Two original 180s would be pretty much ALL of them out there from what it seems.

from who I have talked to, if they do build them again they will be modernized like some of their metal demos were. metal, updated shapes and so on.

I think it's safe to say that at best Madd will be dormant for a few years or a decade. We'll have to wait for Banker to come around again and do "phase 3".

if they changed nothing there would be a huge amount of t-nutted boards. brass inserts suck.

The '05 boards had stainless inserts and the '06 to '08 boards were available with a choice of either stainless or brass.

I used to say they'd have to pry my 180 out of my cold dead hands. Until I tried an NSR. I like the new stuff better, at least for the longer boards. Sorta wish I hadn't sold you my 158 f3 before trying a new short board, that thing was a machine on frozen granular. Bare minimum, a new run of Madds would need the new school decambered noses.

It's quite interesting to see a 15-year old design not that far off the heels of the new stuff. Not many boards from that era are anything other than rock boards. That's pretty cool and a testament to how advanced the design was. Another factor is that no one (until very recently) has really tried to serve the market the Madd 158 nailed - very turny on ice.

I'd love to do back-to-back runs on a Madd 158 and a Coiler Angry.

I dont know any industry that has gone back to designs from 20 years ago and found them superior to whats created today. Im sure if one were to dig hard enough they could find some examples but not many that apply here.

You've never met a Leica owner then. ;)

Im gonna throw a Bordy here and say, stop chasing that old technology. I dont know any industry that has gone back to designs from 20 years ago and found them superior to whats created today. Im sure if one were to dig hard enough they could find some examples but not many that apply here.

Thats fine if more people feel that way about these boards. There aren't enough of them in working order to go around anyway ;).

But seriously, when for researching for the Angrry, Bruce V commented on how the shape of the old Madds was definitely ahead of their time and is fairly similar to the variable side cuts that are the rage today. I ride plenty of metal and new shapes so I know the benefits of the new materials, but the overall FUN factor in these old Madds is really hard to top. Maybe the only thing, which Jack mentioned, would be a touch of decambering in the nose. However, if that took too much away from the crazy hookup or pop, I would probably prefer to skip that too and leave them exactly the way they are.

Jack, you still need to get an original 158 under your feet. There should be a few out east that people are riding. I may have a line on one if you wanted to seek one out, perhaps after your big board reviews are over.

Yes I do, although I'd have to try before I buy. I do have to say that it would have to be quite a board to top the 2007 158 I had. Although part of me is hesitant to fall in love with a board that may very well never be duplicated again.

Speaking of my big board review, Donek and Prior are IN. The "quadfecta" is complete.

Doneks (yes, two) and Prior are being built.

I haven't measured the Coiler yet, but measuring the Kessler with a tape measure and converting to metric gives me:

25.87cm, 20.55cm, 23.97cm at the widest/narrowest points. I could be off a little of course.

Are the two Doneks the 14/20 and 14/24? This is becoming quite a large (and increasingly awesome) comparison.

Yes. 5 boards in all, and a Vist from Bola. I have my work cut out for me! Is there such a thing as a pocket-sized cordless drill??

OP - Sorry for the threadjack!!

Well at least we're back on topic now. :) Thanks for the cool picture! That looks like 1 158, 2 170s and a 180. Very nice.

No problem Nekdut. Anything to help out cus the lord knows that I'll be needing a lot of help this season! If I can get good enough on a hardboot setup, I may try to make it to one of the carve sessions this year...maybe the ECES and have fun.
