Snowriter
Anyone know approximately how many snowboard manufacturers came and went during the 80s and 90s?
tex1230
four hundred and thirty two.
Seasons
That is a really tuff question. How ever we set to work on it over a meal.A skier jerk friend seems to have more knowledge than I. Or a less fuzzy memory. There is a list in the making. One has to wonder the motivation for the need to quantify the over allcarnaige with in early Snow Board Industry. . I know I know, answered a question with a question. . jtslalom
I can name a few that I haven't seen since the late 80's. How about these: Crazy Bannana Hooger Booger Damian Kick Kemper (which I think might still be around) Look (I think Burt Lamar used to ride for them) These are just a few that are coming to mind but I will try to post more as they come to me later. loopback
http://www.barfoot.com/ Man I used to drool over those old Barfoots; all the mags in the day had cover shoots of guys pulling huge airs on Barfoots. Some great history here (41 pix): http://barfoot.com/history/index.html
Snowriter
How about Gnu? Are they still around? Yes, GNU and Lib Tech are part of Mervin Manufacturing, which in turn is part of Quicksilver.
loopback
How about Gnu? Are they still around? Gnu lives, I believe as a division of Mervyn Manufacturing (Libtech). http://gnu.com/
Snowriter
Damian Kick - not a company - that was a model by Avalanche And avalanche is still around as a niche brand.
Snowriter
Also gone: A-Team (sand and snowboards).
LeeW
Yes, GNU and Lib Tech are part of Mervin Manufacturing, which in turn is part of Quicksilver. Not any more. Olson bought it back from Quiksilver.
tex1230
really, your question is very difficult because of buyouts and mergers. You could easily argue that winterstick went out of business, becaust the name has had at least 2 owners who resurrected it after Milovich failed. Same with Sims, which was sold to Vision and then I think bought back by Tom... oh, you could put all the skateboard companies that had like one board... Vision H-street Life Alien Santa Cruz (maybe still around) I'm sure there's more...
LeeW
Silence M3 (part of Yoshida at the time alongside MLY) Evol Morrow Santa Cruz Supernatural (Dave Lee's company under MervinMFG few years back) ... good god, i didn't realized there was soooo many of them during the 90s. Most of 'em are long gone as well as mostly skate-influenced as well.
LeeW
I certainly don't recall Life making snowboards, but I do know they made skateboards. Iirc, Noah Salasnek was skating for Life but snowboard for Sims during one year or two ?
