Guest
That has got to be the most ridiculous waste of time I have ever seen. not to mention incredibly ignorant.

Dan
the people of New Jersey are really getting their money's worth from their elected officials. What a waste of time!
Gecko
these are the same people who believe that their own citizens are not smart enough to pump there own gas....personal responsibility is a foreign concept in soprano land
Derf
When I see stuff like that, I don't even know what to think. It's just some utter non-sense. They trust people to own guns and drive cars (with the number of accidents and deaths that it involves), yet they do not let people pump their own gas or attach their bicycle wheels. What is going on in these people's head? I feel lucky not to live there...
trailertrash
i found another article that says: "Under the bill, it would be illegal to sell bicycles with quick-release wheels if the bicycle has a front wheel less than 20 inches in diameter." most kids bikes come with bolt on wheels anyway. i think that puts a different spin on this.
Derf
It gives a different perspective. I hope it's "less than 20" and not "20 and under" because recumbents and folding bikes would be affected. An option would be to put some hew screws like I did on mine (to prevent theft) and no full axles with big bolts. Hex screws would give the option to put a quick release back. trailertrash
yeah, with that fact added to the headline it wouldnt get the response it did. on edit, title fixed.
C5 Golfer
I think New Jersey has quite a few "Stupid/Dumb" laws on the books -- here are a few It is illegal to wear a bullet-proof vest while committing a murder If you have been convicted of driving while intoxicated, you may never again apply for personalized license plates. It is against the law for a man to knit during the fishing season All motorists must honk before passing another car, bicyclist, skater, and even a skateboarder. Yeah, it makes the politicians even dumberer. Now, not only is the law stupid, it is also moot. These are weak human beings trying to flex the muscles they won in an election. One of my favorie bumper stickers I ever saw: "The problem? Career politicians. The solution? Re-elect NOBODY".
trailertrash
not sure how the vote went or much about the whole story but one thing is for sure we dont have all the details. maybe this was bundled in with a bunch of other useful laws and they had to vote this in to get the other laws. i guess my point more was the dumb sensationalized headline. i think most kid bike wheels are bolt on but, the trend is whatever features adult bikes have trickle down to kids bikes. these guys could be just trying to stop a problem before it happens. i worked in a bike shop and even adults screw up quick releases. they dont get the cam part of the device and just tighten the thing all the way down without using the lever. I know this may pi** off a few but I do firmly believe in Natural Selection, we need Mother Nature to weed out the stupid people. We should not pass laws to protect the innocent. For instance - I am against labeling hairdryers with the Warning - Do not use while Showering Or a Chainsaw Label - Do not attempt to stop chain with hands. others may be found here http://www.dumb.com/productwarnings.htm http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/opinion/points/stories/DN-olson_25edi.ART.State.Edition1.445d7eb.html

I agree, but I think you meant to say stupid, not innocent. However who will cook my fries, take tolls, or pivot the slow/stop signs if we don't have stupid people? Oh right, machines. Unfortunately warning labels like those arise when stupid, <i>bent</i> people sue everyone who made a nickel off a product that failed for whatever reason. (hmm, that hits a little close to home)

I was about to write my congressman to tell him/her not to vote for it but since its under 20 inches doesnt affect me so I dont care. As for the pumping of your own gas, Oregon has the same rule and our gas is still cheaping then NY and Penn and its kinda nice on cold days not to have to get out of your car...but it does take longer to get gas. Pow
"The dangers surrounding the current models of quick-release bikes far outweigh any time saving benefits they may offer,'' said Assemblyman Paul Moriarty, D-Gloucester, a bill sponsor. ^shouldn't that be left to the consumer to decide? For cooking fries, do you any Americans actually do this job, or is it entirely illegal Mexican immigrants stealing those 'prime jobs'? :-) Crazy warnings, as is often said, 'only in America'. AaronG
yeah but who rides those?!? Ralann, you just made me spit milk out my nose!! I was thinking the exact thing when I read your post. I think I am going out and exchange the quick release axles on my bikes, (3 mtn, 1 road) and put me some hex nuts on there. Then I am going to screw up the threads real good so I don't have to worry about those nuts backing off when out riding. My next purchase will be a pair of 14" visegrips that I am going to lock onto my carbon seatpost so I can get those cross threaded nuts off the axle. Hopefully I can add about 10lbs to my bikes but I will feel secure knowing that my quick releases aren't going to fail. There was one instance a few years ago, when a kid while riding a Raleigh bicycle got hit by a car at night. The rider had no lights, only reflectors. The rider sued Raleigh for not telling him his bike needed lights at night. He won a few million dollars and nearly drove a long established company nearly into closing up shop. As fopr folding bikes, they are quite common in dense cities, like where I live.

One thought the reason her vacuum cleaner was not picking up anymore dirt from the carpet was because the power cord had a knot in it. No S**t! The other thought that if you dimmed the dashboard lights in your car the headlights also dimmed! Also - No Sh*T!
