Well, I've been skiing with the UPZ boots for more than a decade. Yes, I've worked with terrain park with those boots all the time with exclusively DIN toe/heels. They work fine for me. Let's see... 4 years of daily skiing per job mandates and then 10 years with roughly a month or two accumulation per year of skiing. Yes, I do not swap the heels often for it's literally a PITA to do so. Plus I've retired from racing and I was getting paid to work on the ski hill. So... I hung up my alpine board since then. Spoke with Roth recently, I look forward to return to hardbooting. And yes I'll be buying another UPZ boots and keep it dedicated to alpine boarding. Trouble is I'm debating whether to retain to bail type of my TD2 or Fintec approach. We'll see when the time comes.

A bit of a late comer to this post. As a craver and a groomer, it's really subjective. I've carved Giant Steps and International trail out in Vail. It's extremely rare for them to be groomed but so damn worth it. Also, Bear Tree trail's super fun pending right snow, right conditions, etc.

As I exited off of Excelerator lift sometimes in the AM, I pass by a hard booter that I hollered “Nice board!” as I skied past him. I wonder if that guy is a regular here?

Oh my goodness. Those thing at the bottom are call Ez-Walk or something like that. I use it all the time to haul ass from my vehicle to the base without wearing out the DINs. The DIN are in dire need to be replaced. Yes, the Ez-Walk are easy to remove and put on. I reckon they’re out of business for like maybe a decade? As for hard booting, I have not done it in ages. I reckon the last time I swapped to step ins via my Madd 158 was 2006. So yes, I’m somewhat retired from alpine hard booting. I have yet to inquire with Dan Yoja on that one. One thing for sure, they were extremely hard to get in and out with the grey tongue. However, it seems age has soften it up a bit or maybe the “know-how” to get in and out with ease these days. I ski all the time and those boots are what I use primarily.

How many of you are donning old upz boots? I’m still using mine. RSV10, I think? 04-05 model.

Is this a telling story of alpine snowboarding going by ways of the dodo? However, it does make sense for Bola to quit doing storefront and go online. It's mightily expensive to keep the overhead expenses up with storefront. Yes, I'm considering giving him a call and drop by his storefront to fondle with some of the equipments. Maybe, cough a drop or two to take home with me.

How many of you pop over the cliff with hardboots? I have and it was real scary. This was good number of years ago. And yes, I did use the Rossignol World Cup board 184. I couldn't believe it I actually did it.

Yes we are very small, right-said Shred. I still have my TD2 and I don't think I'll be disposing them any time soon. This is why I like american made product - all steel, etc. Only issue I have is I'm not a fan of step in but it's real convenient. Will I return to alpine riding? Maybe. There are days I miss just riding pencil lines without arm sliding across the slopes. When I saw the prices of today's generation, my sphincter puckered up quite a bit. I'm not willing to spend that much. I recall I got mine for 300 bucks? But this was a long time ago. As for boards, it looks like I might give it a shot with Moss snowboards via Japan or I might stick to my gun, Donek. Boots, UPZ, hands down.

One Ball Jay (dunno if theyre still around) and a couple of Swix powder. I go by color via snow temperature. The color waxes I had were specified - purple for extremely cold, blue for cold and pink for all round. Sometimes I mixed them. The color waxes were from bulk blocks I got from my racing coach down south. On that note, I use a simple 90 degree edge sharpener after it's been waxed. I use a copper brillo and brush it across the board length-wise. Works every time, even racing. Now that I'm semi-retired (haven't ridden my madd 158 since 2006), I take my skis to get 'em waxed at a local shop.

Yes, sir, I did live in Govy from 1998 to 2001. It was great while it last. I wasn't into alpine. I was into freestyle and I mostly rode MLYs and M3 (before it got bought out by somebody in China) when the factory was in Troutdale. Good many moons ago, indeed.

I'll try to be concise. I'd be pointing to the Argentina film segment with Peter Bauer and Jean Nirva in Board Around the World VHS as well as Scream of Consciousness VHS way back in the day. The way Peter Bauer to me spelled "eloquent." So for years, I've tried to imitate their riding style but with 3 straps burton and softies. Finally, I was forced to use hardboots by Coach Will Garrow back in the early 2000s. Since then, I didn't look back. Now? I've switched to skiing using those same UPZ snowboard boots. I have not ride my Madd 158 since 2006. So it's been too long. Maybe one day.

Hmm. I got a '99 Tacoma PreRunner and that thing is still an animal! Beaten up pretty good, cosmetically. otherwise, works just fine and dandy. from what i can recall, 95-2004-ish tacoma has been consistent with reliability with owner satisfaction (source is Consumer Reports which I swear by for good number of years). Good luck, buddy. Meadows/T-Line/bowl sucks ass when it coems to driving on that death highway. Have you considered moving to g'ovy or is something else holding you in pdx-town?

Congratulations to whoever won the bid on that board. I did consider it last night. However, I realize I have way too many snowboards (mostly Lib Tech like @tex1230 does - I think I have like total of 9) amongst alpine boards (Lib Tech Innercourse, PJ7, and Madd 158 2G). So I decided against bidding it, even tho my heart did sank. However, I would -say- my heart truly sunk when @fin's original Madd 158 was sold!!

I admit I rarely wear those kind of things. Yes, I have wiped out before and knock my head pretty good on my Madd 158. With that said, when I go racing, those are the stuffs I wear - Protec helmet, Dainese spine/arm protector suit, Malpus shin bangers, and that's it.

Wow! That's the original Madd 158 I rode that Fin lend to me. OMG. It haul ass... and I mean SERIOUS ass! And watch it when you carve because they really turn just like how the squirrels evade by turning sharp right or left away from a predator. They perform -extremely- well when I rode it out in Summit County (Keystone, if I reckon correctly). Just... be careful. That board is a true natural-occuring red hue diamond (extremely rare in pristine condition). The base is quite different from the "standard" so tread carefully. It's a shame I didn't see this post for I would most likely have bought it since I have firsthand experience with that board. I wonder if Fin still have that Madd 170.
