  1. That dude was flying and his bike explodes and he eats dirt Then, a shot of him totally out of it in his tighty whities
  2. Whoa, thanks for posting those pics Heal up strong, lock those boots and ride on next season. Let us know about your healing progress. Take care, Hugh
  3. Water Quality 101: Most people want to remove the chlorine to improve the taste of their tap water. During the chlorination process, chlorine byproducts are also formed (Trihalomethanes or THM's). Any decent charcoal filter will remove almost all of the chlorine and THM's. Brita (pitcher) filters do the same job, but require more frequent filter changes and also takes more time to filter the water. My family uses one, it works fine. Other options are counter top filters, under the sink filters and whole house filters. I can endorse any of those except the whole house filters (waste of money to filter your toilet, shower, laundry, all sinks, etc). The main drawback to the Equinox system was that it was a sealed unit, where the filter could not be changed out. High price of $300 and good for 10,000 gallons. So, once a dirty hand touches the exit tube, bacteria starts to grow inside. Bacteria is everywhere, but hopefully that bad kind (E. Coli, poopy stuff) doesn't get inside. That is the main reason for changing the filter once or twice a year, so that you can disinfect the unit with bleach and rinse with chlorinated tap water before replacing the filter. Elements of a good water purification system: affordable unit, affordable replacement filters, filters that remove contaminants of concern, easy to clean and disinfect between filter changes. Inexpensive filters are a key component. Kenmore Countertop Water Filter Sears item #03234551000 Mfr. model #34551 is a good start for a non-permanent setup. Many homeowners prefer the under the counter filter setup, single, double or triple filter setup. My parents have the triple filter under the sink and it doesn't taste any better than the counter top model, but it looks better and doesn't take up counter space Another drawback to the counter top model is the hose that attaches to the faucet. D-Sub was correct that bottled water may have more contaminants than drinking water, but one thing for sure is that it is not tested as often and the testing requirements are totally insufficient in my opinion. For one person, the Brita would do fine for coffee and drinking. I can add more information as questions are raised, Hugh
  4. D-Sub, No, no, nooooooooooo! Did you make that up?   1. Make no assumptions, ask a chemist instead 2. Ask me anything about water, 13+ years as a Water Quality Chemist 3. Equinox is a $hitty product. I tested a purification filter unit sold by the company, as I recall over a million heterotrophic plate count bacteria colonies in a single glass of water 4. Ask questions, do not fear the truth. 5. Drink water, live long and prosper :)
  5. Hey Cuban, It was great carving with you last month in Tahoe. I saw elements of your style that I am working on, especially your arms and upper body position. I call it "arachnoid" or spider style. My soft booter friend calls it "monkey arms", another friend calls it "Bomber" style. Anyway, I did my best carving last week, my board was really hooking up. My first day out, I met another longtime carver (Robert) that had a very similar style to Cuban and he was railing hard too. In addition to getting lower, I pushed my shoulders forward and then relaxed them while keeping the arms as seen below (monkey arms pic). Then, the most important part was to pinch my hip downhill as my uphill arm is lifted (make the uphill mountain smell your armpit). With those few adjustments, I was railing fulltime. I need to get another couple of days on the hill...soon. --Hugh
  6. Cuban, Twist my arm Email sent, Hugh
  7. C2, I have all Avitars turned off on my login profile, so I don't have to look at his annoying "give a damn" avitar or DSub's bumfight's guy or Shed disturbing skull guy. My $0.02, Hugh p.s. Shred, my BOL friend read your comment above and can't stop laughing
  8. Trencher is mostly correct. Randy rides on the North Shore (Alpine to be exact) and the Santa Cruz chapter members of Tahoecarvers ARE addicted to surfing , 10 minutes to the water , but 4 hours to the snow Last week, I rode with Cuban Carving Gooding (graduate of the Shred school) at Kirkwood and I was very impressed with the Gooding style , lets do it again sometime. Carving at Heavenly can be good, if you know where to go. Temps this weekend should be warm Peace, Hugh
  9. If you have no problem feet, then go with the cheapest insole that provides good support. Superfeet - Wintergreen is what I have in one of my boots. Yeah, retail shops can jack up the price of products. There wasn't much trouble heating one insole at a time in the microwave. Warm and go... --Hugh
  10. Bob, Thanks for the update. I've been riding the skis that you sent, 3 half days. Next month, I plan to demo some 08' ski gear. Are you interested in coming up to Tahoe to ride? Plan an event with Skipuppy and then let us know. March 24th - Ski Shop Santa Cruz is having their annual ski demo day. $50 for a Sugarbowl lift ticket, lunch and all the ski demos. I'll be prefitted for skis before the event. My UPZ boots with DIN toes/heels are working out well, plus I haven't crashed yet. --Hugh
  11. Like the article above says...I can't cant. I have straight legs (lucky devil), I ride with zero cant, just lift. On my Maverick with F2 Ti Race, I have no lift or cant, both feet flat. On my Rossi with Cateks, I have about 3 degress of lift for each foot, no cant. --Hugh
  12. What size foot are you? I bought mine at a ski shop in Santa Cruz. You could call around ski shops to inquire. Zapz list for $99, but I got mine for $69. A few years ago, I bought really expensive orthodics for my foot problem (plantar fasciitis), these insoles are just as good or better. D-Sub, are you living in LA too? --Hugh
  13. I have Avitars turned off, but I did prefer the Chick with the big carving stick to the Bum Fights dude. --Hugh
  14. What kind of boots? What kind of liners? The best thing that I ever did was get some good insoles. I've tried Superfeet, Down-unders, now I've found Zapz http://www.masterfitenterprises.com/zapz Zapz are the best so far, total comfort. What ever brand you decide to buy, get them before you mold your liners, so they can be molded into your liners. --Hugh
  15. Gecko, We have a deal. Please also send the Rachile heels too. I'll Paypal when you reply to my last email. Thanks much, Hugh
  16. According to many reports, Heavenly did the right thing by using up their snowmaking. This season has been very good because of that call. Now with a bunch of fresh coming our way this week, they should be good as long as it keeps coming for a while. Snow is good...for everyone

Maybe a foot or two of fresh, but 2-4'? Sweet! What ever it is, I'll post up when I return from my 3-day session at Kirkwood. Leaving early tomorrow with lodging on the main road, oh yeah! :AR15firin Carp, I have one friend near Sac (Loomis) that comes down to Santa Cruz on a regular basis for surfing. Surfing and carving, life doesn't get much better than that. --Hugh
  18. Hey hey, How about $25 shipped to the west coast via USPS? Please email me an actual picture and/or description of condition and use. The pic above looks like a stock photo, if not those babies are brand new. Thanks much, Hugh p.s. Buying and selling quality gear for fair prices
  19. Sorry to hear the news. Take it slow and heal up strong. A friend of mine used a passive movement machine for rehab and healed up with no loss of movement and very quick healing. Something like http://www.dme-direct.com/breg-k500-knee-p-225.html He rented it a few years ago for $200 and it came with someone that delivered it to the house and set it up. Talk to your doc, Hugh

Sac town is pretty safe. Recently, quite a few "hot house" homes growing indoor marijuana in the suburbs. That may interest you or not. http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/state/20070112-1656-ca-suburbanpotfarms.html Funny that a San Diego newspaper is the printing this...I don't bring this up because I'm a doper, but because it is the most noteworthy news about Sac these days. Closest snow - Sugarbowl (1 hour) , not a great carving mtn, but many other mtn's near by within 2 hours. Squaw, Alpine, Northstar, Mt. Rose, Kirkwood, Heavenly, etc. Come on out and join the TC'ers (Tahoecarvers) --Hugh
  21. Identity snowboards of Montana back in action? I used to own a blue thumb pictured, 168cm? 185cm with wood topsheet sounds cool Just announce a new (old) alpine board maker wants to go into production and then redirect us to another site. Email me direct or post a topic on www.tahoecarvers.com --Hugh
  22. Wow, a ton of us doing it ourselves, that is very cool. Where do you buy your supplies? I usually buy my wax on sale at the local ski/snowboard shops in town or end of the season sale at the ski resorts. My other supplies were bought online at www.tognar.com Also, I've been using two saw horses, so I need to get some real tuning racks to work with. --Hugh
  23. I'm wondering who enjoys waxing their own gear? I just finished waxing two boards and a pair of skis tonight, getting ready for next week's 3-day session. Up next for me is learning to tune my edges. --Hugh
  24. My right eye dominance is a personal problem , it is not a way for others to view their personal views of the world. For instance, I can only wink or close my left eye and view through my right eye. I never practiced closing only my right eye and I gave up on that years ago. Maybe there isn't a for-sure test for which foot forward is perferred, other than riding both ways and choosing one or both I am goofy for ALL my board sports (snowboard, skateboard, water skiing, surfing, wakeboarding, etc.). Like Lonerider mentioned, those that can rip it up going both ways are really fun to watch Left handed smiles Right handed  Both hands --Hugh
  25. Skateboarding or single water ski, which foot do you put forward? For me, it is always the same...right foot forward. The main reason that I choose one body position over another is that I am right eye dominant. Example: I swing my golf clubs right handed, but putt left handed. My left handed putting is awesome compared to my right side. Maybe you have that with your legs/feet? --Hugh
