When I was ~13, my dad purchased a running '55 Chevy Nomad to restore, then sell to pay for my college tuition. He finished the car 15 years after I graduated, and he was a professional. Granted, after working on other people's crap all day long, most nights he did not feel like working on his own.
He spent more on restoration than planned, but then again, the value of the car went up almost 400% during the 25 years that he was "working" on it.
As others have said, kiss your money and free time goodbye!
