  1. Here is another pic from a better angle without squiggly marks on it:;) Thought you guys would appreciate the design more than the general splitboard crowd as most even have a hard time grasping hardboots in general.
  2. I've been making DIY splitboards for myself for a few years now and have had this concept in the back of my mind for while. With the introduction of the apex plate and abit of time off due to an ankle injury the concept became a reality. It took about a month to build after hours at work and finished up the week before the hill closed so just had to tape up the ankle and do some test riding. First impressions: splitboards are not suppose to carve like this?!!Having the bindings attached to the plate you dont feel the flex in the interface as you do with the voile and the plate absorbed alot of the chatter that was going on while not feeling detached from the feedback that some people say you get riding plate systems. In my opinion once insert patterns and designs get standardized in the next few years plates will branch out into the freecarve crowd as the advantages you get is truly noticable the first time down. This pic was snapped a week ago and as you can see the transitions are short as the skiers are just getting the skins off.
  3. +1 on getting orthodics. I my self used them long before i even started snowboarding.I used them for cycling to correct a forefoot varus tilt that caused my knees to track off through the pedal stroke. I can see if your foot isn't properly aligned due to poor mechanics that could put your ankle in a position to be strained.
  4. Setting equipment up to put the least stress on your joints is pretty much a given. I myself have no cuff adjustment and dont run inward cant on my front foot. Of course there is that whole duck stance thing so that throws that theory out the window.;)
  5. Seems to be alot of ankle injuries going around. My injury to the ankle is similar to yours, just done in a different way. While riding steep trees in tracked out heavy snow the nose of the board sliced in and caught while doing a heelside jumpturn.I end up compressing and rotating at the same time while off balance which stressed both the med colateral in the knee and whatever ligaments that keeps the ankle from rotating. Myself i wear custom footbeds with thermoliner so im not sure how you can prevent this with gear.
  6. Next time ride off with their ski and tell them to pick it up at the patrol hut. Make sure you let the patrollers know you were hit from behind by the guy and have them read the code to him.
  7. The patrollers on Big White call cheap fri night femur fri.Basicly yahoos that dont have a clue come up and cause havoc. Good that you brought up the downhill thing with then but it prob fell on deaf ears as they sounded like the type where they are always right. More carving on the slope means more people are exposed to it and know how to deal with the situation. What needs to happen is in serious situations where people are put out of commision because of negligence the patrollers/skihill need to step in and take action.
  8. Since Big White is my home mountain i know exactly what type of terrain and conditions canuckcarver was riding in. Do to poor visibility conditions and 17 busload of asians ( this weekend)from Vancouver you are forced into trees just to stay alive. I love the tight trees but also want something to carve on that is compatible with my splitboard. The gear that i use lets me do it all , most of its homemade to suit my style and preferences for backcountry or just experimental but all of it carves and has done steep tight trees on 50 degree incline with style. Backcountry board 161arbor element with dynafit boot lowershells and raichlecuffs with homemade bts. Resort board 158 radair LSD with a subplate similar to a vist plate and mount the same bindings on sliders and plate that are pictured here. My backcountry board as well as my resort board is set up stance wise for carving open bowls and groomers with about a 48 front 40 rear keeping it similar on both setups. That said you have to learn trees in the backcountry and use as short a board as possible that still keeps me afloat.
  9. Two 1 mm plastic tabs on the side of the locking mechanism are all that keeps it together in walk mode. Hit something with enough force and they shear off.If your ankles arent strong enough when the boots overflex then they break as well. If you plan on not hitting something then you could ride in walk mode till the cows come home but that rarely happens on the hill since there seems to be more than a few twits out there riding the slopes.
  10. I do enjoy a good pissing match on forums:boxing_sm I also heard keystone discourages heelside turns as your turning into your blind spot and if your involved in an incident while doing one ski patrol writes it down and is considered if you litiigate!!! They're a bunch of ambi turners. All fun aside I don"t use one,but i'm not going to condemn someone for useing one.
  11. The girl is pure style.
  12. Big white in mid jan can be a tossup, but it ususally follows a pattern of dumping hard in december, then tapering off in jan.You wont go wrong bringing an allmountain board though. In past years where its been thin everywhere else in the province we have seemed to have gotten the best coverage.
  13. How did we get from the availability of titanium bails for bomber bindings to titanium tits at the end of a climb????lol. The bigger question is if borderboy would have the energy after doing 10000 vert ...... maybe thats what the metal balls upgrade is for ;)
  14. Thanks for the reply fin. Working with that stuff must be a pain in the a$$. Not only higher loads but a different springback that probably would need a different set of dies than the stainless versions.
  15. Actually a weee bit more than that tex:eek:. The world of splitting is very similar to to cycling in concern to weight to their machines. The difference is where they suffer occasionally in the hills we spend the majority on the uptrack......with evil demons sporting dynafit racing gear using the mantra "You should try skiing". Every little bit helps and as the bindings are moving mass its even more important. PS: A few stratigic mods like this and he wasnt saying the mantra at the end of the season anymore.
  16. I have been wanting to drop a bit of weight from my bindings on my splitboard and was wondering why there isn't an option for titanium bails on standard plates and only for the front bail with intec? Is it do to the lower modulus of elastisity of titanium and not wanting both bails flexing or is it some other factor?
  17. The guy who developed Sparks R&D bindings for splitboards is prototyping the same concept to allow lateral flex for AT boots. From what little i heard on splitboard.com forum there is quite an improvement in the ride quality since AT boots are stiff in that area. I wonder if Fin will develop something that has titanium toe and heel bails that will adapt to voile slider plates. Now theres a fringe market if i ever saw one.
  18. It's interesting that in the backcountry pretty much nobody wears one because of weight/ packing/ heat issues and some nasty sh*t goes on out there.
  19. Congrats on making the podium!!!!
  20. I can't quite understand how some people actually function in society. Time to try on the big boy pants.
  21. I've met some athletes that had talent but no drive, you can tell that she has both. Glad to see ICBC supporting our athletes.

  23. That UPS van should be running a skull and crossbones as their brokerage fees are nothing but paying ransom for your parcel.
