  1. Well after not boarding this year, me and several of my mates are talking about doing another proper trip. A couple of us did Hood Meadows a few years ago and that was fun (had a friend out there), but this time around looking to say on the mountain (don't want to organize this trip's 5-6 guys) which rules out Hood again or Batchelor). Currently looking at Big Sky and Whistler Blackcomb, but airfare to CO Springs is almost half the cost of those two. So how crowded is Vail the first week in Jan? Is it affordable to stay on the mountain (would like to keep it in the <$200/night range)? If it's busy, expensive, long lift waits et al we might as well spend the extra plane ticket cost to Big Sky or Whistler. Thoughts? Thanks

    Buyer Beware!

I feel your pain too. I made the mistake of buying a board here based on fuzzy photos. Never again. Don't have to money to waste either. I've got other hobbies to feed after all. :D
  3. Wow this thread makes we want to pick up a new board. Those stubby Coilers particularly look interesting.
  4. Anyone have an opinion on the best mountains in Wisconsin? My sister just recently got married and moved up there with her husband. Not sure where exactly they are at, but I know more south than north. I'm in the southeast and have to drive a nice bit just to get NC ice, so I'm hoping for some free lodging in WI come winter. :D
  5. Yeah, not seeing attached photos ether. For example, not seeing the attached images in this thread.

    Snowshoe

I'm actually surprised Snowshe isn't completely open by now. Guess they must have had a warm spell since the last time I checked, about a month ago now. k2, do you usually HB at WP?
  7. I might have seen you on the mountain until I found out I need to put ~$1.5k into my car. Responsibilities seem to have a way of getting in the way of fun sometimes. Enjoy the 31"+
  8. Just came across this concerning Cat: http://www.cataloochee.com/race/index.html HB racing in NC?! Sweet! I may go to one of the Challenge Cups if only to see some HB action in person.
  9. I don't know, I had a bad experience with Beech. I may try App this year. Was going to one year but a lot of the slopes were closed so we went to Sugar instead (last year iirc). One thing nice about our poor conditions is things tend to be muddy rather than rocky from what I've seen. I'll take muddy over board destruction any day.
  10. What! That's insane. I had to check the site just now to make sure this wasn't a joke lol. Unfortunately the temps for this week don't look too good for them. :( Did you make any runs? I may make a day trip to Cat this year.
  11. I got a Bomber bag for car trips, but I like some foam action for airline sporttube action. In the past I've simply used packing tape and foam from computer electronic boxes, but it's a fairly tedious process. Art, what kind of pricing are we talking about? Maybe Phunnybaggs could team up with Bomber to make a foamy bomber bag.
  12. Oooh, I missed that last year. Those would be perfect for inside my SportTube3! Dave ESPI, you linked item is exactly what I would recommend. You just to to watch the weight as 50lbs can come up fast. DrCR
  13. Hey, looking at heading back to Snowshoe WV this winter. Any recommendations on good lodging at college student pricing? Stayed at Mountain Crest (or was it Ridgewood?) last time and will again, but if anyone owns a property up there I wouldn't mind looking into the potential of requesting a particular unit to support a fellow bomberonliner. Winter surely come quickly, and lots of snow with it! :D DrCR
  14. Order placed; thanks for posting. :)

    snowshoe

The conditions look to be nil tomorrow (Sat). We left this morning after a few runs in the rain, made soley on principle, albeit only at Silvercreek. Tuesday was a great day, getting some fresh Monday night. Not to bad at all really. Actually, I really feel like I had the best the _entire_ eastcoast had to offer that day. :) Thursday, the one day we did Snowshoe, Ball Hooter was closed, but enjoyed Skip Jack, Grabhammer, and...ahother blue over there I think. Did Hootenanny and Flume for yucks...and it was _nuts_ trying to avoid the mob. In that area a friend of mine said he heard a ski patroller commenting to another about a HBer. A pitty I was too busy crashing at the Hootenanny/Flume intersection to notice. :D Lots of rocks all over though. Made me really glad I had gotten a used rather than new Axis though. We spent all but Thursday at SilverCreek, with Slaymaker/Spur and Fox Chase being our primaries. Missed Cascade when it was open Wed. night. Ridgewood wasn't a half bad place to stay at all. Glad there was only three of us though; would have certainly been cramped with four of us. Great trip all things eastcost considered. Looking forward to MtHood /somewhereoutwest next year!
  16. Incredible camera work. How did they do it?! Snowmobile?

Won't be on the mountain until ~6-7pm Monday; will you be on the mountain that late? I'll at least see your trenches.

    snowshoe

I'll be there Monday-Friday. Look for a guy in orange Indys on a red Axis -- falling all over the place. :D Hope the temps drop before then... DrCR
  19. Thanks for the info! The forecast is starting to look a little better. Hopefully more trails and lifts (current: 30/57, 9/14 respectively) will be opened up in a few weeks. Glad to hear what is open is pretty solid. WRX, I'll be on the moutain Jan1 evening - Jan5. Will keep an eye open for a HotBlast bomber. I'll be riding a red Axis167 with orange Indys. Hard to miss lol. :D
  20. Anyone boarded Snowshoe recently? The forcast doesn't look good. I sure hope it dumps for my Jan1 trip. :(
  21. Have a trip scheduled to Snowshoe Mountain, WV for the first week in January... Base Depth: 29-37" New Snow: 0 Primary Surface: Wet Granular Trails Open: 30 of 57 Lifts Open: 9 of 14 Acres Open: 88 Percent Open: 38 :(
  22. The technique Phil mentioned is a soild one for removing the bulk of it. You may need a solvent to dissolve the rest though. I use the Citric Blend Solvent from tognar.com
  23. Grrr, if I was still in uni I'd do some lab experimentation with a vacuum chamber.
  24. Where in SC? Your getting into my neck of the woods. Funny same with me, and my IT geekness. Just kind of pick it up. In the Desktop PC Support arena myself.
