OK, so I looked at the specs and maybe I wasn't so far off. The official SCR is 9.8, like Sandy wrote. But it's actually a variable sidecut, with 11m in the nose, decreasing as it moves further back. On softies I tend to initiate and ride most of the turn on my front foot, shifting my weight onto the back throughout, that's probably why it felt bigger. I shot the footage on a GoPro 3+ (old by today's standards) on a telescoping selfie stick. Not too pleased with the battery lifetime, so am going to put my point & shoot on it from now on. Edited on a mac: stabilized the movie with iStabilizer, then edited & subtitled in iMovie. Snow has finally come! Our resort reported 4" in the morning, but it was snowing all day and I think we got closer to 8-10". It was great. Went riding with my son, who spent the past few years ski racing. This year he's taking a break, and took out his new snowboard. He ate a fair bit of snow, but had a good time and a big smile. Now he's thinking that a directional board, like a SUPER SHORTY, might be a good idea... :) tom.

I'm having a great time riding this board -- with softboots. With all the interest in softboot carving I thought it might be appropriate to post this here. At 169cm, it's a short board in comparison to the rest of my quiver. The Shorty is billed as a high speed untracked powder board. Unfortunately this winter hasn't delivered the goods yet... But my local resort had some fresh snow these past few days, and I had a blast carving and making short pow turns, and going through trees. I haven't read all the technical specs, so I'll just describe it as I see it. The board is relatively stiff, has camber between the feet, some tail rocker, and a big rockered shovel nose. The sidecut doesn't reach all the way in the front -- so when I'm carving, I can see the nose ready to grab the fresh snow and to lift me to the top. The SCR feels long -- maybe 11m? The board is very stable at speed, and I had some huge fast turns today on it -- building speed to shoot up and over into the powder in the trees along the slope. Super fun. With the shorter tail I can turn it on a dime, so surfing narrow lanes of untracked powder, slaloming around trees, it's a joy. I had posted a photo of some tracks from riding softboots on the SuperSwede (or what is now called Maverick Big Gun). Had a blast on that board, but recently I upgraded to their new board, the Pipeliner. Having a great time on it, and thought I'd share videos from the first two days on it. I'm riding 45F 25R angles in Salomon Malamutes and getting plenty of support. The board is responsive and very good at holding the edge. Since I live in Colorado and don't ride bulletproof ice, the board has done very well in our conditions. On the steeper terrain (seen esp. in the second movie) I'm struggling to hold on, don't commit quite enough and it shows. Rider, not the board, more stuff for me to work on :) tom.

Oh, teleboards are fun. I got one 3-4 years ago and get out on it a few times a year. The angles are so steep that the free heel doesn't really matter, you carve with side to side pressuring of the boot. Is it better than snowboarding / skiing / carving? No... but sure is a fun thing to do when the slopes are empty and all I have are my telemark boots on. The board I have is 192cm long, pretty soft flex, bends well and rails on carves.

Board was still there this morning. Owner won't ship, but three doors down is a shipping company. If you can arrange to buy from one and ship with the other, you'd be set. tom.

I upgraded my Malamutes to this year's model, but my old ones still have a lot of life left. Looking for a new home for them. These were the stiffest snowboard boots on the market when I bought them 7 years ago. They've been well used, but they have a lot more life left in them. They're men's size 10, still very stiff. The right boot liner has a detached tongue -- it's easy to place it by hand, but it's something that'd be worth fixing. That's really the only thing wrong with them... $30 + actual shipping. The Maverick boards are super cool. I'm riding the Superswede with Bomber powerplates and softies. I can't push it around like when riding hardboots... but the board rails and is super fun. Tons of edge on this 192cm board. It takes a lot more precision and balance to carve on it, compared to hardboots, so I'm having a blast. I have a new Pipeliner on order and am very excited for riding it when it shows up. Attaching a photo of some arcs I made last week... tom.

I've been riding the same pair of Malamutes since 2009 or 2010 and they've been working out great. They certainly got softer along the way, but I've been very happy with them. I don't like BOA, these have laces, small footprint. FWIW, I'm planning on getting another pair once these go... tom.

Nice to see a Gentemstick (or like), but can't believe there isn't a single hardbooter. The arcs in the movie leave much to be desired... Skier looks great, and the corduroy is beautiful :) tom.

We came to visit the grandparents in Wisconsin and my son got to spend some quality time behind the motorboat. This year he started with small jumps on the wakeboard, figured out how to drop one ski and slalom ski, then how to start on one ski as well.
