  1. A recent avalanche in Scotland : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-21305724 This reminded me that last Thursday at Glenshee, I decided to ignore the great big signs warning of an avalanche risk! The visibility at top of Glas Maol was down to acouple yards. Off I went off-piste, ignoring the pisted run as I was more worried about fast skiers/snowboarders hitting me. Logic can be amiss with me at times. I suddenly realised there was no one else doing this route, it was silent, eerie, and I got a bit worried as I saw the piles and mounds of powder all around me...however, it was quite exciting at the same time:p Anyway, I decided to traverse towards poma for use as a guide, then make my way down. I've never been so deep in powder it was amazing, I crashed into walls of it cause I couldn't see very far and appeared out of it looking like a yeti. Once I reached half way, the visibility opened up and the powder more user friendly. The rest of my runs I sensibly got off half way up mountain, so I could see and avoid the avalanche risk. I'm not very experienced, in mountain conditions but heck i'm not going to let that put me off:eplus2: I found myself looking at new jackets with gadget receivers in then and at avalanche training courses.;)
  2. Thanks NeilG, didn't think about the length, they are step-INS. I've fallen before and the bindings were still attached but today was one of those rare falls on hard pack. yesterday I banged my forehead, I wear my helmet right down to eye brow level..thank goodness..but it was on crusty top snow off piste..I have had a darn 2 days of it. Anyway to keep on topic I haven't been put off:rolleyes: Dingbat, it probably did sound like that but my mind went blank...I blame it on carving..I hot locked in a toeside carve at speed (for me) heading towards a dilapidated wooden fence, that had parts beckoning me for impalement...I freaked out..then my mind went blank..haha This used to happen on heel side but i'm so much better(tons room for improvement tho) that I don't get locked in:freak3:
  3. Kinpa, Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. I had joined the Extremecarving site, and one member contacted another in the UK and just happened to have a board and bindings for sale. I also got advice on where to purchase boots. People have been very helpful :) Today I took my first proper fall in hard boots...gee the impact went straight to my stomach with that instant sick feeling, bounced back of my head off snow and my back foot came out of the binding...interesting comments very recently posted here about that. Anyway, I sat for 5 minutes before I dared move. :D
  4. JohnE said "... , if skiers have an appreciation for what we are doing, they probably need to be less than 40 or so to risk some body slamming." From a client/newbie perspective... I took-up snow boarding at 48yo..never done any snow sport before..i went in with the attitude that i'm going to fall and it may hurt..that's still my attitude. I had no choice but to do the duck thing on softies..knew no better...that was on offer, nothing else. First day had lessons. progressed on my own. Took a couple free style lessons..started doing easy rails, small kickers(the idea behind this was to improve balance, orientation so I could be better, react better on the unexpectde mountain conditions)...just as I started to get hang of it..got alpine set-up, and moved angles on softies to forward positions... Just started my 4th season snowboarding.my aim is to carve and ec carve. Absolutely, no one could put me off my goals...some have tried but I ignore them and leave them to whinge about their back problems etc :) I really have had the best fun ever...so glad I found snowboarding:D
  5. Allee,"...mackerel slap...", hilarious that made me laugh..." . "...A lot of women are concerned with how they look..." You tell it like it is.. I conclude that Erik's marketing ploy would work...and a few wash board stomachs from a female's point of view;)
  6. Yes, thanks for info...but very sad to read about the young lad:( I have hit my head off ice and had a black eye and bruising..never occurred to me to stop snowboarding.... What about whip lash?...does anyone think if that's severe enough it could cause problems too? i've had many severe headaches and strained neck muscles ...
  7. OhD, your practical thinking shines through...:p...trouble is I was the riff-raff in the group...the folk I was with were a well-off bunch from Oxfordshire and Henley...one of them was my rather well-off boyfriend at the time...... ...what can I say..education, intelligence and money doesn't necessarily give people honesty and integrity...needless to say...the tent lost its appeal...hahaha....;) IanM,I was thinking of building an indoor luge type track but my Christmas present of a bucket and pack of snow( just add water) only does 2 litres,...so a carpet track of some kind could be an option...so what is your carpet skeleton thing then?
  8. Benntech said"... Yea, because everyone just sits around all day hoping to get their equipment ruined in order to "flame" (it's called feedback, not flaming) some ski/board shop, and then sit back and say "well, theyre the only game in town so I'll just take it up the butt". Get real. What's with Americans always pushing the "give em a second chance", "they were having a bad day," "work together and be merry" BS, as it's getting boring. I pay you for a job you better deliver. I'd expect not only full compensation to have the board repaired by someone like SkiMD including shipping and packaging, but compensation for your time and the lost value of the board (in terms of edge/base life)..." I'm pretty much with your view on this one. I'm in a similar situation with a local tradesman, whose work on my house has come undone and falling apart...he's ignored all contact i've made with him... I've got a nice new year surprise for him...he will receive a `last chance saloon `letter..letting him know I'm taking him to court as my next action. ...if this does go to court I'll be contacting the local press...I'll also see what local Web sites I can add feedback onto as well.. Anyway, hope you get things sorted to your satisfaction...:)
  9. Leeho, no need for apology, absolutely no offence taken..:) I'm a bit of a stubborn, odd-ball that doesn't in general, go along with main stream society, so I've always expected to live slightly differently to most people...:p Anyway, I still wish you well, once you have moved..
  10. Haha..certainly some truth in what you say...;) Fortunately, I'm just one of those people who doesn't mind being single...there are people who are in relationships and are not happy, lonely, settle for 2nd best..etc..of course there's the opposite too...:p I hear far too many people whinging about their other 'halves'...I just switch off. I'm not like most people: wanting kids etc..knew that from a young age. I am just not cut out for all that family life stuff... ...I have always refused to succumb to peer pressure, expectations of a female...at least I'm true to who I am ...:) I would much rather be up a mountain, snowboarding any day..it really is such fun:biggthump ...i was told I was 'hardcore' yesterday...as I'm out in any conditions I can stand upright in...well to someone like me that was taken as a compliment...hahaha:p
  11. Wow..that is fantastic...how pleased and proud you look I doubt many of us have boards like that bought for us... ...magic... :D
  12. just as well a year or so ago, I had to import some bits for one of my cars from USA;) I have been know to help the electrical circuits flow in the wrong direction and thus cause smoke to appear by stupidly putting jump leads on the battery the wrong way...the car would not start after this...it took me two weeks to figure out that the coil had blown...this was after a series of working my way through the starter system...you know changing rusty plugs etc (I didn't own one of those handy circuit testers)... Hope everyone at Bomber has a good festive season:biggthump
  13. ...is this board supposed to leave the piste groomed behind you?;)
  14. Come-on tell us who has done the modelling? ..what will this general onesy fashion trending do next...hmmmm......matching diapers, mittens and dummy covers:biggthump There's some guy I VERY, VERY VAGUELY know and through conversations I've had with him, i'm sure he's got 'adult baby syndrome' He is the first person I know of to mention a onesy....about 3 years ago but he called it something else and described by the analogy of a baby-grow...however, along with another couple of vague references to other things ........I concluded he must be a member of a special group to have obtained such a garment for an adult:eek: Hence my rather avante-garden fashion sense of accessories to follow:biggthump I know this onesy trend is slightly ironic :p ...but as the saying goes 'each to their own'

This morning woo hooo:D However, sticky a wet snow..been flat lining ...no other way to get down Slope:confused: good fun though..only handful people out in such windy low vis n sticky conditions...happy days:biggthump
  16. Wow...those pictures are amazing shots...hope we get some snow fall like that here in Scotland...one of our slopes in particular needs it:biggthump
  17. OhD said, “...*and you will think longingly of one)...“ Hahaha.....:p I remember a camping trip, the weather was atrocious (summer in Scotland) cold, storms and a northerly wind... I came to think longingly of the tent..due to the warmth and protection it offered....but I don't think I could be persuaded on your suggestion...;) although you say you're an engineer...you didn't say what type...;) I think you're a mind control engineer...I mean look at your list of negatives, of not having such a convenience in a onesy...who are you trying to persuade:rolleyes:
  18. LambertoMI said, " But all things considered, I would advise to first; listen to all advise and take from others experiences and point of view.. Digest, diagnose and then see what works for you.“ That is exactly what I plan to do...:) I'm also aware that the advice that isn't EC style, will pay off in other ways:D
  19. were you bored today or have you done this before..such practical detail...as I would never have thought of a 'dropseat', let alone all the other stuff..oh how the mind boggles .... I think you own more than one onesy:biggthump
  20. Blueb, you're darn right i'm confused...:p On the hard boot set-up, the angles are set as you describe above..but its not comfortable on back knee.....I find my back foot naturally goes for a steeper angle on the stomp pad on the uplift, which is also affected by my body facing more forward. However, the front leg is just comfortable...there's a couple more things that i've noticed that I want to change and try out...then I'll be so much more confident with the angles to use...:D OhD, I had completely forgotten a few things from when I got my first board..and you brought back that knowledge..I remember jumping into the air in my living room and landing onto my board, then seeing if I could squat etc.. yes, biomechanics is very important...i'm quite a flexible person and don't usually suffer joint issues, so I will mostly certainly be monitoring for joints that have joined the resistance-party This season will be the start of a very steep learning curve ...which I'm looking forward to...:D ...thanks for comments/suggestions:biggthump
  21. Hahaha...oh how I have been laughing...brilliant...no half measured photos here, front and back shots....:lol: I am, in fact, a very good knitter:eek:, slow but good...I note this onesy has 'cable' stitch where the aid of a third but very short double-pointed needle is used...I also see besides stocking stitch, moss stitch..most noticeable on the front legs.. yes, I can take commissions..send your measurements, colour choice...are you allergic to wool?, would you like to look more like a bunny rabbit:p and perhaps go for the fluffy Angora or mohair wool...if for spring fresh days I would suggest unlined for air venting purposes:D...one last thing I'd need a copy of the pattern... Knitting CV as follows: Have carried out commissions in the past, mohair was popular then I work with natural and synthetic fibres...including silky ribbons...which can be woven through the middle of a cable stitch in a beautifully contrasting colour..that helps catch the eye of onlookers..in case the garment its too plain Been knitting for 25 years, last garment I used shetland wool. Pictures and references upon request... What a hoot...:biggthump
  22. Well...I used to wear a Tory blue suit to work..in my posing days in London...my posing was soooo extreme that I would spend the evening drinking cocktails that contained blue Curacao because the blue matched perfectly....of course I had a copy of the FT on show beside me, along with the Sun, just so I could fit in with the Commoners too... So everything I do must be extreme..including carving...haha:p No point in living life with half measures...its boring...
  23. Well...I have stumbled into a real posy sport...ruddy 'eck..I honestly didn't know:rolleyes: That means I can't go to any events ...otherwise I'll look like rags amongst riches....I'll start knitting my onesy now...I must fit in with the crowd:D What is it that they say in psychology...'act as if'... ...knit one, pearl one...act as if..knit one...
  24. Double post..sorry..too early in the morning here for me..4 something in the morning ...
  25. Michelle said,"... We are a very rare breed, especially in this hard boot world! ..." Is this hard booting, a posy sport then? You know, where you turn up with a metal board made of platinum and diamond stomp-pad... ...dressed in: Dior, Prada,Chanel... Have I tumbled down the slope into a snow-hole of kerr-ching madness?...will cubic zirconia pass for a stomp pad on a tin board?...will a 1980s onesy be acceptable with a head-band of towelling in matching colour?. .:p
