  1. Very impressive. I would have needed a little bit more when I filmed something for a video contest earlier this summer. Instead, I just just a software video stabilizer. For those interested, I used the Deshaker plugin for VirtualDub. Here is the video <object height="344" width="425"> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr13CaHsOzk&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="344" width="425"></object>
  2. A similar thing happened here in Montreal 3 years ago. http://www.montrealgazette.com/story.html?id=1503633
  3. Kona Jake 2008½, gotten in last September
  4. IIRC, a private poll means you can't see who voted for what. You still can see the overall results. I recall seeing some polls (on an other site) where you could see who voted for what.
  5. There's the town of La Tuque here that banned cycling in the Winter because of a death. It created quite an uproar in the cycling community.
  6. Parts are pretty much equivalent. The main difference is the geometry. Specialized tends to build short frames. Based on top tupe length compared to seat tube length and standover height, a Large Specialized is like a Medium Giant. If you like short frames, go with Specialized, if not, go with Giant. I've been riding a Giant since 2004 and I have no complaints. It's not a bike that makes you go "Wow!", but it gets you from A to B and back without any problems.
  7. The pics I took are on my website: http://derf.dyndns.org/~derf/gallery/2009-03-28_SQS_2009 A big thanks to Dave and Andrea for organizing this. I'm glad I could meet some of you guys. Can't wait for next year's SQS (and ECES if there's one).
  8. I think it depends on your reference. Technically, I think I am average: I can carve whole runs (green and blue), remain in control and have fun. I do what I can on black runs (which involves lots of skidding/speed checks). I don't think I am much to look at as I am mostly a static rider, but I get around. My technique is not necessarily good, but I don't think I suck. There are lots of better riders out there, and when I look at them, I think that statistically I am below average. @Jack: You should've added "Terminal Intermediate" as a catergory.:p
  9. I must say that as much as I like Facebook, I only add people that I have actually met, so sorry for those who have requested to add me but have had no answer.
  10. Use google with site:http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/ in the search box.
  11. I was thinking about sulfur content, but it's already been mentioned. Have you though about a cooking oil mod? Some people use filtered used cooking oil from fast food restaurants. They start and stop the engine with diesel, but switch to cooking oil when the engine is hot.
  12. I work for public utility company (22000 employees) with very strict policies. They use Tivoli for process surveillance. Running any software other than that provided by the company is not allowed. Even running open source software is not allowed, especially Firefox (surfing with IE6 is PAINFUL). I have been using some apps like Firefox, Notepad++, Winamp and 7-zip for about a year, but got no warning. The apps show up in the Tivoli logs, but no one checks them or they do not care. I think they mostly use Tivoli for security and reliability with some specific scripts. I am friends with the main computer support tech of the building, and never got any comment or warning from him. I think he knows, but he also knows I know alot about computers and software.
  13. My experience is usually around 35$ for shipping boards, US to Canada and Canada to Canada, with USPS and Canada Post.
  14. Fashion follows cycles. Here are Burton's 1999 line of boots, same colors, and they even had real buckles back then!
  15. I got mixed and got to Mont Habitant on Saturday February 28th! I got to ride with some local carvers there, very nice people. Mont-Habitant is quite nice for carving, even slope, wide trails (not too much), lots of local carvers (about 12). So count me in for Saturday March 28th and Sunday March 29th.
  16. I think I read this both in French and English every year since I've had the internet. It never gets old. I wish I had that much snow.
  17. I don't have any but I agree. What isn't a big data mine? I'm still on Facebook though. I reminds me of a guy who learned he was under surveillance, so he decided to put his whole life on the web, including everywhere he went and when he was there to prove he had nothing to hide.
  18. Nitro made the Pyro in the early 90s. The board was an asym twintip freestyle board. The heelside and toeside radius were different, but the tip and tail were symetrical, so they only had the have one model for goofy and regular. You can see the 1991 model here.
  19. Backups are VERY important. I once lost 30 GB of data: several years of school work, pictures, music (some rare). Now I have a file server for backups with 2x 160 GB drives in RAID 1 running Linux. As for offsite, I will setup a backup service, probably using rsync, with my father's backup server which very similar, except it's 2x 80 GB. Both servers were cheap to make as I just had to buy some new discs and put them is some used Pentium 2 computers. As for large files exceeding the 4 GB file size limitation of FAT32, there is uncompressed video and DVD images that come to mind.

Here is my point of view as an engineering technician and as a consumer. The main problems are: Bad business decisions on where to put their priority. They chose to focus on big cars and big trucks and they tried to outsell the Japanese with lower pricing. Bad engineering/design that led to unreliable cars. Bad production methods (that could go into bad engineering) that led to badly assembled cars. Production employees are not at fault here. Some great and reliable Japanese cars are manufactured in the same North American cities as North American cars.
  21. I'm there also. The thing about the profiles is that you can only see the profile of your friends and people in you network (depending on pricacy settings). You can also temporarily see the profile of someone who sends you a message for a month.
  22. Here is the correct link: http://www.skisoutheast.com/photo.asp?id=2841 You can send your autograph on a check, thanks.:p
  23. Transparent Burton with spikes and a ridge.
