1. jsyk, the NSR is a long board. There is a 182 and 185. I'd say you can't go wrong with any of the others you mentioned.
2. bj... of course. You are right in the big picture sense. But this particular idea is going absolutely nowhere.
3. Touché. However I didn't see any of them carving like I like to either. Aren't you painfully crushing your foot to accomplish this? That is what I have to do any time I am in softies in order to get any performance. Ouch, no thanks. We are now. We had nothing for 6 weeks since mid-January, and then we got like 5 feet of snow in one week. The 2011 SG 170 and Kessler 171 look to be a freecarver's dream. If you're into $1500 boards.
4. Dude you are so awesome! Next time I see you can I rub you? Outstanding! Why didn't we see anyone in the Olympics on your setup??                                                                               :rolleyes:                                        :p ;)
5. No worries, but I did not get it sorted out. The flat skis with no plates are on the FedEx truck now. Is there anything special about that plate or can she get any old plate? Well, they're 155 so I'm not super interested to try them. Even if I was I don't think I'd saddle her with demo bindings for the rest of the ski's life just so I could try them once.
6. Steve, technically any softbooter who isn't spending a lot of time in powder or more than half of their day in the halfpipe should be on a BX board.
7. blah blah blah. My default position on Burton is that I'm very happy that the #1 snowboard company in the world is one of the original snowboard companies that started from nothing. I'm pretty sure #2 and #3 are ski companies. It would just be wrong for a ski company to be #1. So whatever Burton has to do to stay #1 is fine with me. I'm not super impressed with Sierra. I ordered a pair of those Kessler/Palmer skis for my wife, but didn't notice the fact that the pair I ordered didn't include risers. Then I realized it soon after the order was done. So I immediately emailed their help desk with the order number, asking them to change it to the pair with risers, which were the same price (strange). Didn't hear back. Called the next day and the order had already shipped. The guy on the phone was nice, but he said even if they had read my email in time, they wouldn't have been able to change the order. Huh? Whatever.
8. Stays colder later, and historically we get the most snow in March. March is prime time here. We just got 5 FEET of snow 2 weeks ago. Pics from today:
9. Must have missed this the first time around. What's the latest? Good luck Victory! Also I was surprised to see some very round looking noses and tails in the Olympics - Seth's board almost looked freestyle-ish. Or was I seeing things? Buell, yeah, a 20cm difference in running length to overall length is very racy. That was Burton's standard formula on the Factory Prime for years. Neat.
10. Gord, thanks for the detailed write-up, very fascinating! It's a thrill to be able to have a first hand link to the event like this. I would imagine Jacobelis is doing some serious soul-searching these days. I feel bad for her. I'm still pissed that they had the PGS and SBX at stupid Cypress. They lucked out with the SBX, but the PGS got screwed. Any idea why they didn't do it at Whistler with the other real downhill events?
11. I was kidding when I said this will work great. I predict epic failure for the reasons Ken has stated and several others. So many that it's not even worth typing them out. Not trying to be a jerk, just giving it to you straight. Forget this idea, you're wasting your time.
12. I've never seen the plate in person, but I'm pretty confident the answers to these two questions are yes. However as they've said, even if you did see it in person you wouldn't be able to see everything that's going on. The video hints at another dimension of suspension, in the vertical direction. Not sure how they're doing that.
13. well at least you brought some kind homebrew. what is with westerners voting in this poll?
14. this will work great as long as there isn't any snow around.

Kessler 185 KST

Magna Carte, lol. Make no mistake, the Kessler is better, and worth the money, law of diminishing returns and all. I just can't afford it right now. I mean it won't kill me if nobody buys it, but come on ladies, someone step up!
16. fair enough. but wouldn't it have been more effective and less of your time/effort to simply say "this question belongs in the x forum."?
17. You mean people who can't read directions and needing their hand held and people hogging demos were lower factors? Wow. :p
18. Hehe, funny, but CD is still the only way to legally obtain audiophile quality recordings, afaik. (let's not get into CD vs. vinyl) So I still buy CDs from my favorite bands. ~70mb per song sounds better than ~5-10. Single songs or albums I'm not going to listen to critically I'll buy from iTunes. And don't forget the peace of mind that you can't go to jail for using iTunes!! Disney FastPlay. Ok, this paragraph plus your confession of hating Star Wars makes me think you just might be THE WEIRDEST 30-SOMETHING I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. ;)
19. +1 True, but errant posts could be moved. Cross-over trolling/flaming could be declared a bannable (banable? ban-able?) offense. I think a softboot forum would be a good idea because there are a significant number of us who still ride softies. I would if I could justify the expense for the few days a year I would need them. It would be helpful to be able to discuss softbooting with like-minded snowboarders who also hardboot, instead of having to go wade through some unfamiliar softbooter forum crowded with people who have never experienced the way we like to ride. Helping people get started with hardboots has always been one of the primary missions of the Carving Community forum.
20. Stop the presses... don't tell me you're a goddamn trekkie. Well, I have to disagree on CD prices. When the CD first became relatively widely available (mid 80s?), they were at least twice the price of the previous state of the art technology, cassettes. Fine, but then, unlike any other piece of new technology I can think of, the price never came down. CDs are cheaper to make than cassettes, so they should only cost like $5. Even if they did cost as much as cassettes did, they would only cost $8. But this never happened, and CDs have only recently come down in price to about $12-14. This is why we saw the uprising of mass piracy via Napster, Morpheus, LimeWire, etc. If CDs had ever come down to their rightful price, that might never have happened. woops, threadjack!
21. Of course, that wasn't what I meant. I meant that most sports stars are philanthropists in that they contribute significantly to charities and/or they run their own charities. And then, next sentence, even if they aren't very philanthropic, they still spend money on goods and services, and pay taxes. So it's not like money spent on sports is thrown down a black hole. As for ticket prices, unfortunately that is econ 101. Maybe they need to be fixed, I'm not sure.
22. I really don't think it could be put on every year by the same people, for very long. The organizers would burn out quickly. I would. This is why we went biannual in the first place. The idea of alternating venues and organizers could work though. I know the Sugarloaf session would be smaller, but you can get group rates starting with only 20 participants.
23. Sounds great. Vist eliminates some snow-feel as well, and for me it would take some getting used to. It was a problem at first. But for my needs the weight is a dealbreaker.
