sorry for not setting this up sooner. i'll pretty up this post after all the santa craziness calms down. for now, book the vacation day / sick day / national holiday. when: weds, jan 15, 2014 9:30 - ? where: afton alps www.aftonalps.com cost: $32 for a lift ticket ($35* if you don't sign up for "preferred program"), plus any food you purchase. as usual, make sure you've used your fixodent that morning - there will be chewy, sticky, pull-out-your-teeth goodness after lunch. :D who: anyone who likes to see thin, deep lines left in the snow why: because it's epic baby! *afton now has a new system for buying lift tickets. the bad news, is the system is slow. requires more info, and new to them (see pict below). the good news, is if you sign up for the "preferred program" you only have to go through it once, and you'll save money. you get 10% off the first visit, and $10 off subsequent visits. and now that they scan your lift ticket, you can go straight to the chairs for the rest of the year. once they scan your ticket, they'll charge your credit card for that day, making a "ka-ching" sound. another awesome day! hero snow at welch, and bluebird skies. lookout and bakki were awesome! bulletproof, hero snow. i was giggling between whoo-hoo's the first two runs! :D dan's dive was ok, but since the front was so great, we only took one run there. only downside was the wind again today. it was blowing straight uphill on lookout. get. out. and. ride! -trent

what a week so far! monday (3/18) was a powder day. yes, in mn, and in march! it was awesome, just not really for carving. but i was on the new plate giving it a whirl, and having fun the whole time. tues (3/19) i was worried it would be too soft. boy was i wrong! thanks to the cold (9 degrees) temp, and the 20mph winds, it was hero snow! yep, the day after powder, in march! oh, and not a cloud in the sky either. and of course nobody on the hill. thank you easter bunny!:D rode the plate most of the day, then switched at the end to my glass slalom board just to see if i could still hold an edge. holy carving batman! i stayed about an hour longer i was having so much fun. get out and ride! this won't last. (did i mention it's march in mn?) oh, and this weekend is "food shelf" days at afton. bring in 4 items to donate to the food shelf, get a lift ticket for $8! :) -trent

Todd, perfect timing! I just broke mine weds night. Spent the day today going to 3 different shops trying to find someone who'd be able to install the new af rivet, or find a different fix. Nobody was able to help. I need the part, and would probably buy extras as I can see this happening again. I'll try and PM you for more info. -trent

here is the footage i took of the carve factor. sorry, i'm not johnasmo or Arclite... so it's not edited well (or hardly at all). i think i was about the 5th rider down, so the first 4 are missing (which includes mr. coiler). sorry mellow, i think you went before me too, but there is a later clip of you in there. and it pains me that bigdogdave is in there. i know, should've cut him out. :D

not yet.... powell1.8 and i rode a little this morning. super cold, super fast, and super groomed! they had the dealer ski / snowboard event going on chair 2 and 3 (dealers and manufacturers out demoing next years gear). the runs were groomed extra smooth. too bad i had exactly ZERO energy today. the snow seemed sweet, i just couldn't get going. oh, a head's up for this weekend..... both sat and sun will have a zillion racers all over the front runs. it's the last race of the year, and it's going to be uber crowded! -trent
