  1. some of the regulars from tyrol basin driving out to show us how it's done. don't know how often they post here, so i thought i'd post for them. -trent
  2. It's that time of year again... yep, I'm already sick of working, and need a day off! (Sorry for the short notice). If you missed it the last 2 years, this is where we get everyone who carves to come to Welch Village for the day. Yes, it's a weekday, but that means more room and corduroy for us! Start planning your vacation / sickness now. When: Tuesday, Jan 10th 2006 Where: Welch Village www.welchvillage.com Time: 10am - ? Cost: $40 for an all day ticket, plus any food or beverages. Who: Anyone you know who likes to dig trenches. All abilities are welcome. Let's meet at 10 by the double chair off of the main chalet and take some group runs down the front hills while waiting for any late sleepers. Last year there were multiple cameras and video, including a helmet cam. Great chance to showcase your talents - either at carving or digital editing. :D See you on the hill! -trent
  3. from what i was told, we'd be able to practice in the course. due to the fact that this will be new to all of us, it will give us a chance to check it out before they start timing us. it will also give those people setting the course time to tweak it, if needed. but i'm sure it'll be set perfectly the first time, right tigger? -trent
  4. sorry, missed your post. thanks to kent for letting me know. i'll send out an email shortly (once i'm done looking at all the picts). thanks for taking and posting all the picts matt! have fun at nationals. -trent
  5. we've got some hill space this sunday from 9am - noon to set gates at buck. we won't be timing, just setting some courses and having a good time. all snowboarders and all abilities welcome. even if you're not interested in racing, come out and ride with us. it's a great opportunity to meet some of the other carvers in the area. come out and get some last turns in before the season ends. (buck is scheduled to close after sat 26th). -trent
  6. LOL... frequent sprints to the restroom. racing was a blast. slalom is still impossible for me, but i keep trying. karl and kent were ripping it up. although on saturday kent thought the snow was a lot better about 20 feet away from the gate. :D (i can say this as he still beat me in every event). bob got some good video of us too. and by "good", i mean i got to see myself on the course, not as in my technique was "good". -trent
  7. I was at Welch this weekend, and just wanted to let everyone know that the snow was amazing yesterday! Nicely groomed and very solid. Best snow I've been on yet this year. Should be great riding tomorrow, especially not having to dodge the crowds. See everyone tomorrow. -trent
  8. After a fun event last year, decided to do this again. Plus I could really use an excuse to miss a day of work! In case you missed it last year, this is where we get all the carvers we can to Welch Village for the day. Yes, it's a weekday, but that means more room and corduroy for us! So start planning your vacation / sickness now. When: Tuesday, Jan. 25th 2005 Where: Welch Village www.welchvillage.com Time: 10am - ? Cost: All day lift $38 + any food / beverages you buy Who: Anyone you know who likes to dig trenches. We'll meet a couple of times during the day to regroup. Let's start at 10 by the double chair off the Main Chalet and take some group runs down the front hills. Same chair at 2pm to regroup with anyone lost. If the weather cooperates, there will be multiple cameras including video out on the hill. Remember to smile. :D -trent
  9. there are actually a few instructors down there riding plates (or used to). the main guy is jack hurst. he's a aasi examiner, so he's pretty busy. but if you can hook up with him, he'd probably love an excuse to ride plates. -trent
  10. hey gumby, first of all, come to buck tomorrow (sat) from 9am - noon! there will be a bunch of carvers out. the whole gates / racing thing is very informal. we're just out having a good time. bring your wife too! i'm planning on being at welch on monday, jan. 3rd from 10am until 4 pm (for some reason our company has that day off instead of the 31st). there are a few of us that will be there on sunday mornings. probably on the 9th. otherwise, if you don't mind a smaller hill, check buck on sunday mornings. there's usually a few of us out. -trent
  11. It's time for a party to celebrate the New Year! What better way to celebrate than to come ride at Buck Hill? We'll be setting GS and slalom this week. This is possibly the last day of racing we'll have at Buck this year, so be sure to make it. The party runs Saturday, Jan. 1st from 9am until noon. Kent is so excited about the party, that he's bringing Gatorade to help with any dehydration issues hanging-over from the Eve. :D And being the highly sponsored event that we are, we will also have prizes for the fastest racers. Twix and Snickers bars! And by fastest, I mean you have to get them before I eat them all. As always, all snowboarders are welcome, so please invite family and friends. -trent
  12. The 1st is our last session at Buck. We might be able to get some lane space at the end of the season, but won't know until the skiiers are done.... Do your friends snowboard? If so, bring the party to Buck! All snowboarders are welcome. -trent

Just a reminder that we're riding 9am - noon on Sat morning this week. We'll also try to have GS and slalom, so bring the appropriate board(s). Everyone is welcome, if you've never been in gates before, and want to give it a try, come out to Buck tomorrow morning! -trent ps To everyone who responded, we do have the numbers for tomorrow. :D

I won't be out this sun am only because I'm on dad duty; and at 2 yrs old, I don't think she's ready for the slopes yet. Soon though... I'd expect there to be some of the regulars out though. -trent
  17. We've got some hill space to set gates for any snowboarders wanting to try / practice racing. Best part is it's free (except for your lift ticket). All of the following times are at Buck Hill. Spread the word, if we have good turnout, maybe it'll be easier to get hill space next year. Sunday, Dec. 5th 5 - 7 pm Sunday, Dec. 12th 5 - 7 pm Saturday, Dec. 18th 9am - 12 pm Sunday, Dec. 26th 5 - 7 pm (show off what Santa gave you) Saturday, Jan. 1st 9am - 12 pm (show off your riding skills hungover) Kent has been kind enough to set the courses for us. If you see him in the bar, buy him a drink. Just one though. He's wasting away from all this Ironman training crap, and his tolerance is low. :D -trent
  18. bboyd - yeah, come out to afton and see what it's all about. it's pretty low key. we're all there to have a good time. and like kent said, you've got to start somewhere. and by 'veteran', kent means i've showed up at races.... knowing what i'm doing is a different story :=) buck has a regular group of carvers. sunday morning from 9 - 11 is your best bet of seeing other people in hardboots. there's usually between 3 to 10 of us out. stop by and introduce yourself! -trent
  19. i'm sure kent will eventually reply, as he's the one setting the courses at the races. you should come out to afton this weekend! the races are a good time. we do 2 runs of gs, and 2 runs of slalom. all ages are welcome. and if you're fast, you have a good chance of making money. $50 typically to the fastest man and woman in each event, down to $10 for 5th fastest. if you want more info, like time and cost, call 'the alt' bike and board shop in mpls. they're the fine folks who put on the events. hope to see you at afton on saturday. -trent
  20. See everyone out in the cold tomorrow! Bring your face protection as they'll probably be making snow all day. -trent
  21. Bubba- It's still a go. We even have permission from Welch to set gates, or whatever Kent has planned. Maybe if some more people would reply that they'll be there, we'd get some more carvers (I'm talking to the Buck Hill crew - I know some of you are coming!) -trent
  22. No, it's not the state fair.... It's all the Twin Cities area carvers (and anyone else who wants to come) gathering at Welch Village! When: Tuesday, Jan 6th 2004 Where: Welch Village www.welchvillage.com Time: 10am - ? Cost: All day lift $27 + any food / beverages you buy Who: Anyone you know who like to dig trenches Yes, it's a weekday, so plan your vacation / sick day accordingly. But that means more corduroy for us! An added bonus to the event - A Carve Clinic! Kent will be leading everyone interested in a clinic covering such topics as: 1. Angulation vs Inclination 2. Cross Over vs Cross Under 3. US Carve vs Euro Carve (or Extreme Carve) 4. Style - Movement Analysis 5. Balance, Edging, Pressure, Rotary... what da hell? We'll meet a couple of times during the day to regroup. We'll start at 10 by the double chair off the Main Chalet and take some runs down Lookout. Kent's clinic will start at 11 outside the Main Chalet. Same chair again at 2 pm to regroup with anyone lost. Hope to see a lot of carvers on the 6th! -trent
