  4. excellent snow this weekend! i was skiing with the kids all day saturday. crowds were light, and the snow was awesome. today, powell1.8 and i rode chair 7 and 16. turns out there was some ussa clinics going on at chair 2. we ventured over, and watched a bunch of kids skiing on one ski down hard 2! most of them weren't skidding either. carving inside, and outside turns. yee-haw! there was some serious talent on the hill. john was out video taping, so hopefully the afton youtube page will have some of the action soon. but 7 and 16 were money. powell1.8 kept remarking how "grippy" the snow was. we got lots of head turning and staring. some of the otto haulus instructors gave us thumbs up! we only stayed until 11:45 though. i was cold, and the sleet had started. plus i got to come home and work on taxes. yeah, fun times. see y'all weds! -trent
  5. just a heads up... there will be d-team racing on sunday at welch. afton, mt. kato, and welch d-teams will be out in force. i think they'll be on lookout, lower jon-jon, and bakki or dans. -trent
  6. D-team races at afton sat 1/12. Chairs 1-3 will be covered in gates and kids.
  7. don't forget to dress warm. someone was cold last year. <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/OsBval-z2qWszPlJhchR7MgklddK1gPjhHgSXz5aCew?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-KBYk0KZd8tU/UO7bI_8bZZI/AAAAAAAAHnM/iYWln9RXAU8/s640/IMG_3444.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/trentj02/HostingPicts?authuser=0&feat=embedwebsite">hosting picts</a></td></tr></table>
  8. 2004 was the first year, making this the 10th year. loved the mounds of snow under the guns that first year. i think somewhere there's a picture of scuff on the top of one.... product placement. ;) <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/UjaWiBU0LTmTdXlWb5v_9MgklddK1gPjhHgSXz5aCew?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-oZe_k0xgujI/UO7WzvqUCKI/AAAAAAAAHnE/v_mT_zoDvrc/s640/IMG_3558.jpg" height="427" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/trentj02/HostingPicts?authuser=0&feat=embedwebsite">hosting picts</a></td></tr></table>
  9. 1/4/13 sorry for the delayed response... rode welch yesterday. lookout was great. everything else kinda sucked. jon jon - top was a little icy, bottom 1/2 was good. bakki - top was uneven groom passes, and ball bearings for snow. bottom half was ok. dan's dive was great if you like rollers launching you between turns!! oh, wait, the snow was ball bearings and there was a drop off to skiers right where the snow hasn't been filled in. fail!! got a comment from a skier in the afternoon..... "nice turns!". which would've been cool, except i was on skis! argh!!!!

Your regular commitments like jobs, school, family will survive a day without you. Let's show Afton how EPIC carving is. :) When: Wednesday, Jan. 30th. 9:30 - ? (who's going to stay with me for some night riding) Where: Afton Alps www.aftonalps.com Cost: $33 for a lift ticket, plus any food you buy. But there always seems to be free treats at lunch. ;) Who: Anyone you know who likes to dig trenches. Why: Because carving is saving the world, one turn at a time. Someone tickle bobble this year! Maybe he'll smile. :D <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/U45-vyHcd6Pnb_H5g8B1j8gklddK1gPjhHgSXz5aCew?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CyZ-qg_jJ1M/TyMWAL3LhAI/AAAAAAAAHPg/leAfVNqU8dg/s640/IMG_5274.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/trentj02/HostingPicts?authuser=0&feat=embedwebsite">hosting picts</a></td></tr></table> -trent
  11. i know, i know.... the world ends on friday according to the mayan's. but, just in case it doesn't, it's good to have other plans. :D so in celebration of the world NOT ending, let's play at buck hill. hopefully there will be all the awesome rollers that were present last year too! in the past, hours have been 9-1 or something like that. i can't find the hours on the buck website - probably due to the fact that the world's ending before then and all. hope to see y'all at buck on monday, or at whatever party the mayan's have planned for us. i'm sure they'll have carving though, so it's all good. ;) -trent
  12. sweet! that means my season pass works at all their resorts, right? ;)
  13. SOLD! thanks newcarverontheblock! enjoy! -trent
  14. rode with nelsonboat and nicotine this morning. it was a couple of inches of soft snow, over ice. carveable, but you had to ride pretty balanced (but not as balanced as yesterday). also saw switchtele today. gave him some whoo-hoos from the chair, and complimented his riding later. dan's, bakki, and lookout were all in about the same shape. i had an eye for binding problems today. hopefully solved nicotine's leg problems, and avoided some possible problems for nelsonboat. 60's for the weekend and next week.... seemed like a good time to call the season over. and the fact that after i left the doctor's office tonight, i was told i'd be using frozen peas a lot this weekend. ;) see y'all next year! -trent
  15. top few inches were snowcone, ice underneath. possible to carve, but had to ride very balanced. too far forward, nose would fold and give out; touched the snow, or inclinated too much, snow would give out. oh well, with the forcast for the weekend, and next week, i thought i should try and ride while it still felt like winter, not summer. rode with paul most of the morning. hopefully we'll see more of him next year! -trent
  16. pulled up to a nearly full parking lot at 8:45. uh-oh.... maybe i should've got to afton. but the sky was blue, the cord looked excellent, and the hills weren't covered in gates. plus bobble and bionic were both smiling huge. :D turns out there was a big psia event, along with adaptive skiing today. luckily for us, they didn't get going right away. joe d., bobble, powell1.8, bionicman, matt, and i rode lookout almost exclusively for the first 2 hours. it was awesome! we even got some compliments from the psia instructors, and some pole whacking (how many points for that?). the snow was firm and fast, and the run was pretty uncrowded except for the occasional group of skiers. after 11 though, it started getting too crowded. we tried some runs down dans and harley, but it was loose snow over ice. not fun. made our way to the other side and made a few runs down dikes and the green run over there? dikes was icy. i liked the snow on the green run, but it was too slow for everyone else, plus the bottom section sucked eggs. joe d., decided there were better things to do with his time than be at welch. the rest of us tried lookout again, but all the top snow was now scraped off. much icier, and a lot more chattering happening. not fun. we tried jon jon i think 2 runs and decided joe d., was the smart one and followed his example. still, an excellent morning of riding. thanks for coming out to play everyone! -trent
  17. @newcarverontheblock: $40 shipping to canada, plus they said you might have some tariffs/taxes on your end? yes, all parts are included, and visible in the picture (the mounting screws are in the center discs). -trent
  18. @newcarverontheblock: yep, still for sale. @jmars: you're 2nd in line. -trent
  19. yuck! only made 4 runs, then left. way, way too soft. snow would not hold any type of aggressive carve. not even semi-aggressive. days like this, it's good to have a season pass! -trent
  20. there's going to be d-team racing at welch on sat starting at 9am, probably lasting until 2 or 3. i'd imagine it's going to be pretty crowded as afton and buck teams will be there. -trent
  21. lol. time to order a bubble machine.....
  22. bobble said he wished he had small hands to make boot repairs easier. <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" id="nbcwidget" width="512" height="347" align="middle"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="movie" value="http://www.nbc.com/assets/video/5-0/swf/DirectWidget.swf?CXNID=1000004.10045NXC&widID=4727a250e66f9723&configXML=http://www.nbc.com/service/videowidget/params/dmlkZW9faWQ9NzI3NTAx/%3FpageURL%3Dunknown%26referrerURL%3Dunknown"/><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /><embed src="http://www.nbc.com/assets/video/5-0/swf/DirectWidget.swf?CXNID=1000004.10045NXC&widID=4727a250e66f9723&configXML=http://www.nbc.com/service/videowidget/params/dmlkZW9faWQ9NzI3NTAx/%3FpageURL%3Dunknown%26referrerURL%3Dunknown" quality="high" width="512" height="347" align="middle" bgcolor="#000000" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed></object> -trent
  23. glad you weren't hurt bob! wish i was able to capture more video of bobble sliding down bakki on his arse! plus i don't have the right cable anyway for our new computer, so bobble is spared the video (for now). powell1.8, joe d, bobble and i had a fun morning. lookout, bakki, and chicken were all fun! it did get crowded early today. we also saw chris from afton giving a lesson on hardboots. his student is much improved over last year. didn't get a chance to talk to them, and they didn't like joe d. after the equipment failure, we ate lunch. the consensus was that bobble needs a metal board. maybe boots too, but definitely a new board. the heel wouldn't have broken on a metal board. plus bobble would never fall. and his carving would bring world peace. all good reasons for a new board, and all true. nicotine finally got out of bed and joined us for a little while. we made some runs down lookout. more fun and smiles had. eventually, the new lift shut down after many stoppages. once the lines started getting longer than 5 people, i lost interest. (man, we're spoiled riding early mornings!) -trent
  24. busy! chair 1 and 2 were covered in ussa racing. chair 3 and 7 with d-team. ski jammers were also in attendance. i was able to squeeze in a few runs on 7 with the d-team, but the lift line bothered me. headed back to the highlands to see if it was less busy. chair 16 had gates too! argh! saw bonzo 2 planking it, and proceeded to show him proper crashing and chattering technique. it was loose snow over ice in the highlands. made one run, chatted with bonzo until the radio called him to save someone, then headed back to 7 and the bowl. tried skiing after lunch. meh. lines still sucked everywhere. didn't last long. got out the camera, and tried to take some pict of our daughter skiing. sunday is supposed to be much of the same with ussa and d-team. d-team doesn't start until 12 on sunday, so you might get a few hours in the morning before everything has gates on it. -trent
  25. lol. it's like a caricature movie. huge head, small body. i love when you look uphill. -trent
