  1. two things back protector does for me : protects you from hitting your back on hard ice, when you overload the nose and go over handlebars... i have seen couple nasty crashes when somebody would hit carvers from behind feels a little bit safer with back protector. 3DO protectors seem to be working pretty well with me, with low profiles and flexibility. @daveo In Xion you can choose which back protector thickness you want. All 3do is produced by 3do company, so even POC buys from them. You have an option on 10mm thickness or 18mm thickness, which meet CE1621-1 and CE1621-2 respectively.
  2. helmet and back protector is a must for me. Race helmets with FIS approval are preffered to others. Uvex Race+ is my choice I got a burton 3do protection, but I am thinking on switching to this: http://www.xionpg.com/ cheers!
  3. I tried fully floating system( mind you it was kinda garage build) some time ago and didn't like the feeling of disconnection from snow. Mind you that for sure I have improved skill since then. @Atom Ant How is the feeling on JJA interface? Which boards do you recommend ? I want a 163, was thinking about going quad on the tit too. I asked JJ to sort me out with a board first and give me a plate as a test. If I like It I keep it.
  4. A bit of an exotic for all trenchdiggers in the US Nobile race ti 166. Welcome to the fold
  5. meh just want more power than vist, less strain on the body. I have been looking at JJ boards for some time, I think I like them enough to buy one, now just a question is whether the interface system would be a nice to have or not.
  6. Hi all, I am sure there must be a person here that did ride the Jasey Jay interface system. Can anybody give a recommendation whether its worth it? thanks Lukasz
  7. Phenix park seems to be The shout. Talk to Dr.Kimcarving on Facebook, he even might give you a tour.
  8. Ironrock plate. Allflex kind of. Made by world cup racer Rok Marguc
  9. On boots don't forget Mountain Slope, who resurrected northwave boots. 951 are best boots I have ridden.
  10. Dont want to off top but since the question was asked : Apex makes top quality boards. That specific sl162 is made for 85 kgs which fits me perfect. Approx 10m of progressive radius. Works well in all conditions. 2 layers of titanal. Highly recommended board. Definitely one of my favs. Full Race vs Full Carve - construction and shape is the same except for titanal layers. I find full carve little more playful than race, with rebound much easier to get. Performs well in almost all conditions full carve maybe except ice. On icey hard pack titanal is best, but board needs more power input, but if given it gives back a lot more. Both great boards though. I really like how SG Full Carve performs with vist. Here is a short vid:
  11. Never had the feeling that it is going to fold the nose. I guess it is slightly different from riding an asym, as you are riding a symmetric board. Due to Your binding angles you will have different touch points on the edge for front and back side, so it is assymetric naturally. Gecko is just an extension of that, but spreads your power over more length then the bindings. Above statement is valid unless you ride 0 degrees on both legs. I tried geckos on SG Full Carve 163, Apex SL162, SG Full Race 170, both symmetric and asym setup and asym felt better always Just my opinion. I am not an expert.
  12. here is bit of riding with Geckos - SG Full Carve 163 with geckos bolted on and Point 951 boots. mind you this is first three days of riding into the season, on Kitzsteinhorn glacier in Austria, so no full power yet. Technique is also not where I would like it to be. i have tried after riding the geckos, the vist plate and I have to admit that vist plate effect is much better/stronger than geckos.
  13. Boardguru Apex recommends using asym setup, that matches your bindings. Just recently I found the instructions at home, however I found them after the plates have already been shipped. I will make scans and send you via email. I rode them in asym set up and like that more than symmetric. Felt better especially on heelside Cheers
  14. hi all, just a short edit from the Polish Carving Crew. Best regards from the other side of the pond. SLP
  15. I switched from UPZ before last season and never looked back. Like the way the work, flex symmetry and adjustability in terms of stiffness. Smaller sole design than UPZ, not mentioning deeluxe. Worth giving them a try if you get a chance.
  16. Full Carve 163 + vist
  17. Hi Got a pair of silver gecko carve for sale. Red bumpers Located in Poland. Asking 400 EUR plus shipping
  18. Riding with legends is always fun!
  19. I have upz foam injected liners which work great. I did the injection 3 years ago in my upz rc10 shells. The liner has approx 130 days on it, and still is the best liner I ever had. What's more I changed the shells to 951 and I still keep using the upz foam liner from my old shells and it works great!
  20. one more big difference between UPZ and 951 that I can see (considering that you are using stock upz spring mechanism) Stiffness in UPZ largely comes out of the tongue stiffness, with spring mechanism being somewhat limited in movement, while in 951 the stiffness rather comes out of the spring system @FrankNBeans mountain slope realizes that the liner they got now is now what it should be. I heard also from them that they are almost ready with new liner which will be much better. I personally put in my old foam upz liners and they work very well.
  21. ok lets set this straight: Stock 951 comes in shell stiffness 100, which according to their website is the same as NW .950. So: Shell stiffness -100 Tongue stiffness - 100 Springs - out of the box you get two sets - blue(soft) and red medium. Initially I rode with red springs with stock tongues - which are about the same as UPZ rc10 with black tongues. Now, I purchased off Mountain Slope, stiffer WC tongues (120 stiffness) and yellow springs, which are the stiffest - that setup is very close to RCR, yet imho works better, due to construction of the shell I also get a much more direct feeling then with UPZ. short edit from taking out the Goltes 180 Racecarve first time this season, with MS boots https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRQwgM3ns38
  22. When you put in WC tongues and yellow springs I think they are very close
