  1. Hi Matt, Anytime you want to ride Berkshire East, let me know. I also frequent Wachusett (mostly nights) and have been known to get out to Ski Ward (although not this year yet) on occasion. Last year I rode at Nashoba also, but haven't been there yet this year. Welcome! Michael
  2. Was anyone here riding at Wachusett this morning? I was there making turns for a couple of hours in the morning and spotted one other hardbooter coming down Tenth around 10:45. Unfortunately, I was on my second to last run and wasn't able to catch up. I'll be there again tomorrow until noon.
  3. Dude, just shut up and ride! :D Seriously... best cure is to just get out there.
  4. Be sure to post in the MA, CT, RI Ride Board when you do. I hang out at Berkshire East often and will be happy to ride with you. Cheers!
  5. He says, as the skies unleash a deluge of a biblical proportions. *sigh*
  6. Looks like light rain today with partly cloudy for Sat and Sun. Can anyone comment on likely conditions for Sunday? Mark? I'm hoping that even with some rain today, things should be groomed out nicely by Sunday. Wishful thinking? Let me know. Stratton is my backup. After Tuesday, I will suddenly have lots of free time for carving! Hopefully the weather doesn't take a turn of the worse. If it does, I suppose everyone can blame me. :(
  7. Stop! You're depressing me. :( I am also curious about Berkshire East. I was hoping that with only one day of rain, conditions could still be okay for the weekend. Wishful thinking? I'm sure that if you're willing to drive just a bit farther north, VT and NH are good for carving. I was at Sunday River last weekend and had some of the best conditions all year -- and certainly the best I ever saw at the River. Stratton and Bretton Woods always seem to have good groom no matter what. Fingers crossed.
  8. Yes. Well, if there's anything this thread has shown, it's that there's probably little "conventional" about this. Just go with what feels good. But to your point, I'm only 5'6" and I'm using 19" stance. Going wider may give you more control (if you feel you need it). But if you already feel in control and are riding well and everything is working, then if it ain't broke...
  9. Hi Noir, I'm curious, about where in NY you're located? I have family in the Buffalo/Western New York area who ski at Holiday Valley and I sometimes bring my board with me when I visit. Is that anywhere near you? Back to the original topic... when conditions get icy, I typically feel good if I can continue to keep the board carving. I haven't thought much about how low I'm getting to the snow (or ice as the case may be), but as others have already pointed out keeping my body low to the board definitely helps. You may have seen references to "East coast surivival technique", which I interpret as a highly angulated, very low to the board (especially on edge changes), keeping as much mass as possible over the edge -- basically exaggerating everything. Regards, Michael
  10. Ken, I just hope you've retired the Flying Dutchman for good. Glad you're back again this year. Looking forward to riding with you.
  11. I would be there both days, but I'm helping an ECESer flying into Logan get to Stratton. I guess it would be a bit too crazy to drive all the way back to Boston on Sunday, pick up at the airport, then all the way back out to Stratton. But then again.... I've been known to do crazier. :D

  13. I've never seen Remo on BOL forums, but you should be able to track him down through the Pure Boarding site or through his Carve Company site: http://pureboarding.com/ http://www.carvecompany.com/
  14. Wow. Is it possible that things could actually get worse for her family: http://www.ctvbc.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20120120/sarah-burke-medical-bills-legacy-120120/20120120?hub=BritishColumbiaHome

  18. Nice! Until I read the last line, I was thinking this was going to be a plea to the BOL community to pitch in for a pass in exchange for some snow! :D Btw, John, do you ever get back to Boston anymore... especially for the 4th of July Storrow Drive slalom course? Ahh... them were the days!
  19. As far as acknowledging other hardbooters (e.g. getting their attention from a lift), I usually go with, "Hey buddy, is that a monoski?!" :D
  20. As if I had to tell you... sign me up. Although I will likely only make it for Saturday.
  21. Thanks! But drinking games did come at a price. For once, I actually didn't make first chair. Or... maybe it was the -12 F windchill that helped me decide on a later start. At any rate it was a great weekend.
  22. Since everyone is posting about the Beast in other threads, I thought I'd take a moment to set the record straight: conditions at Berkshire East are way good! I just spent two awesome days carving over the weekend. The temps were COLD, which is good for continued snowmaking (there is plenty of cover now), and the crowds were (as usual) not bad, especially for a holiday weekend. Even with the cold temps the snow never got iced up. Despite the recent snowfall, they had everything groomed out nice and firm. Other than some soft spots early Saturday morning, the rest of the weekend was great for carving. Winter is FINALLY here. Carve on, everyone! Carve on!
  23. Definitely, primo conditions! Sorry I didn't notice this post, but it seems everyone is posting about Berkshire East in every thread except the one Mark specifically started for the 11-12 season. http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=35812 But yeah... winter is FINALLY here. Let the carving begin!
  24. Chris, after you left Mark dragged me back out at about 6:00 for another hour or so. It was crazy cold, but did not ice up at all. And after this I can still walk this morning. :)
  25. It was the best day of the season so far. Conditions were good carving. Exhibition was groomed out nice and firm. I'll be out again today!
