    Yo Lci!!

John E suggested posting here to look for a car-pool from Denver for SES. I am coming in from Canada to Denver at 5pm on Friday Jan 31st and am looking to split the cost of gas / car-pool. I am flying out the following Sunday, but am hoping to spend a day in Denver (never really explored the city), so my return is flexible. I realise that there is a shuttle - but I thought I would see if anyone was already driving / renting a car and wanted company on the drive over to Aspen. Thanks

  3. Rode with Bruce last week and he was testing a few boards - they look wicked, especially without the top sheet on. Always fun listening to him talk about the boards he is making people. The man is a total artist.
  4. Happy New Year to my Ottawa riding buddies. Stay warm if you head out tonight or tomorrow. We got over two inches today in the Barrie area. It has stopped now, so it should all be nicely groomed for tomorrow morning. See you all next week - can't wait to ride with everyone.

Thanks for the good laugh! Enjoy the board tomorrow.

Wow - some things you should just tell people in person instead of posting them where everyone can see. I think when they tuned it they must have reversed it which explains why it was a total gong show when I tried to ride it earlier this week. Probably not making it tomorrow. But will be there at 8:30 on Wednesday - Moonstone side.
  7. A local hill around here actually has a special (cheaper) deal for just the bunny hills. The special pass only allows you to ride chairs that end at green runs. Obviously this requires people to be sensible enough to acknowledge their limitations, but it does keep a lot of the muppets off the better runs - at least until lunch and they have gained some confidence (and I am gone by then!) Having said that - as someone who likes to try lots of hills, I would find it really annoying, especially on busier days, to have to wait until I am "certified" to run the big hills. Sure, it would be bliss if we could keep newbies away - but everyone has to learn somewhere and you need to push yourself occasionally. What needs to happen is a serious conversation when renting or selling to someone who is obviously a beginner about responsibilities on the hill and seriousness of ending up on runs that are above their skill level.
  8. I miss you all and can't wait to ride with you soon.

I plan on being at MSLM at 9am tomorrow. Will part on the Mt. St. Louis side and slowly make my way over to the usual spot. See you all tomorrow (and Tuesday and Wednesday!)
  10. My options are snowboard a lot or spend time working and hanging around at my parents house; total no-brainer. Plus; need to get my legs so I am ready for big hills! See everyone next week.
  11. I am riding Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday - but over at Mount St. Louis Moonstone. Over on the west-end. Well, as west as Barrie. Will be back next weekend. Enjoy the groom
  12. Not I - in Toronto this weekend. Probably not back in the Ottawa area until the 3 or 4. Looking forward to riding with everyone. Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk
  13. Thanks - I just booked the Mortiz ... they only had two spots left for women. So now there is only one spot.

Great seeing so many of you out today. Looking forward to a few more days at MSLM this year ... OK; just one more tube this year. Plan is for Monday. Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk

Might head over tomorrow ... well it be good or ice? Drive up from Toronto wasn't to bad, after I cleared the inch of ice off my car! Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk
  16. Probably see Bruce in the next few days on the hill ... what do you want me to "order" for you? Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk
  17. Fantastic ... I will buy my ticket and order the t-shirt based on a woman's size ... but if you can't get women's shirts (and I totally understand if you can't) I will take a small men's!
  18. Any word on the sizes? Would love to do all my ordering before I have to deal with the Christmas credit-card bill. Put it all in the same billing month and I can just say it was a gift to me (I get me wonderful gifts don't I!)
  19. I flew United eight months ago with a very large snowboard bag and there was no issue (well ... just the checked luggage charge!).

How much is a MSLM season pass and how many times do you have to hit the hill to pay it off? Unless you know of awesome lift ticket deals ... just wondering. There is a small chance I will be in Orillia for two weeks, in which case I may go every morning (because I can :-)) See you Tuesday
  21. WHAT? You were riding in Ottawa? Why didn't you say so - we would have all come out and I am sure Hammy could have been convinced to wear bells.

Hello MSLM carvers, Checking in to see who is around and how the conditions are. Thinking I will be there the morning of the 24th and the 26th ... will others be there too? Are the conditions OK yet? Anything open? We just got a foot and a half of very light fluff, so much snow - I hope your weather fairy has been as kind.
  24. I am out for MSM tomorrow as well. BIG snowfall = idiots on the road. I was at Cascade on Friday morning and after a few runs of generally wondering how to snowboard it was amazing. Until about 10:30 I had the place pretty much to myself. Feeling good today.
  25. Agreed - if money is not too much of a concern, stay at the Chateau (watch Ontario Tourism webistes as there are often deals for two nights accommodation for Winterlude). It is close to everything downtown and you can park there - so no worrying about parking every day as everything in the core is walkable. When to come - not a weekend. It is a ZOO. Seriously, if your friends wants to skate the weekend is terrible because you have to dodge everyone. If your friend has her own skates, evenings are fantastic (the rental places shut at around 9pm). I would do a Monday - Tuesday as it will be quietest, especially after the first weekend because then you can wonder around Jacques Cartier park and check out all the ice-carving (the big competitions happen the first weekend and the art stays up all week). There are lots of rest spots as well as covered cabins and warming spots. The distances are marked as well. Note that on the weekends a free shuttle runs the length of the canal so if you are not up for the return you can hop these; I don't think these run weekdays. However, some attractions/museums are closed on Monday so if your friend want to see those she might consider Tuesday - Wednesday. What else to do? A walk around Parliament Hill is a must. The views are spectacular and in the evening it is quite - but during the day you can see lots. I also like the views from Major Hills Park which is right next to the Chateau. If your friend does have a vehicle, ask the hotel for directions to "Old Chelsea" and hit up the Old Chelsea pub. This is really a local experience and is crowded on the weekends with people getting good food and micro-brews after a morning of cross-country skiing. The cross country skiing from Old Chelsea is easy to access and world class. Your friend can also spend some time wondering around the Bywarde market and along Sparks Street (they are really trying to do lots of new things here, so you might find a random festival - although these tend to run Wednesday - Sunday). Wakefiled is also cute, but further away - it has cute stores and a great venue for live music (Black Sheep Inn). Coffee - the local coffee place is called "Bridgehead" there is one in the Byward Market and one on Sparks and Metcalfe. The coffee is better than Starbucks and the vibe is chill, it is a local chain that does not expand to the suburbs because it works of the principles of foot, bus or bike. Another favorite of mine is Grounded Cafe, a great place to get a late lunch (don't go during the lunch hour because you will be completing with lots of people). After 12:50 it is empty and the food and coffee is good. There is also a new place on Elgin Street - Ministry of Coffee - not been there, but have heard lots of good things. Eats - Whales Bone on Elgin, but really hard to get into. IN the Byward Market - so very close to the Chateau - Murray Street is a favorite of mine, as is Play (more a tapas type bar but great local food). D'Arcy McGees is also a local hot-spot and very busy on Friday nights when they give out free oysters from 4 till they run out. Wednesday's get busy because this is where the Liberal Party staffers hang out. Finally, when my sister comes for Winterlude, we usually try and spend half a day at Le Nordic. This is an outdoor Scandinavian style spa. They have outdoor hot tubs and it is just a lovely vibe with the snow falling around you. Le Nordic is really near the Old Chelsea Pub so the two could be done together - just don't do either too late as it they both get crowded. Hope this helps.
