  1. Now you get it! Plate and hardware for $300 wow whats it made of ? The plates I make are epoxy wood laminate, aluminum inlay for screw re-inforcement the hardware is aluminum, stainless steel and all bronze bushings.Overbuilt? probably but i want it to last. The plates do take a beating. Some standards for insert placement on new boards would be helpful to control future costs as well as standard dimensions for (vist like) insert to fasten hardware on outer edges of boards a standard stance dimension would also help .Any board builders willing to accept the challenge?
  2. You might get a patent for suspending a rider over a board:lol::lol:But as far as a patent on all this hardware and plate designs i think the train has left the station. the ski industry has done it all over and over I'm sure a patent lawyer would take your money and promise to make you rich but really 1% of 1% of the snowboard market ? If Jake Burton is paying attention to this thread he probably has a boat load on the way over as we speak. Have fun with these plates they work, their fun and from the response to these discussions they will be in all price ranges all shapes and sizes and available around the world. I'm even willing to bet the knuckle draggers are going to catch on there is just too much on offer once you try one.A final tribute to someone out there responsible for getting this going a long time ago is KILDIE THANK YOU !
  3. Front fixed, Rear fixed, Been there done that! rear fixed is slightly better. But slightly better on a plate is huge compared to no plate. Don't be thinking locked in front or rear like a seat belt in a car I'ts just two fulcrum points only one that slides. The front one sliding absorbes the shock smooths out the crud and makes a smooth path for the rear of the board to enjoy.
  4. Ok now Sean of Donek has pipped up do you believe what i have been saying for a while ? (view previous posts) I have 8 plates in production I have hardware that mounts to 4x4 or 4x2 inserts. Is anyone riding in south america this summer that wants to try one of my plate hardware systems?:confused:
  5. Attic is fine just send check to Bruce now for your new board!
  6. Pros and cons, have to remove binding for hot box, takes up large area, less chance of cooking base,a fan in the box is a good idea to prevent hot spots from lights(heat source) Still no substitute for elbow grease!Keeps your pizza warm while working on board but doesn't help with beer.On the pro side gives you a project till snow flies again.
  7. In for a penny in for a pound.
  8. In Canada Ontario hydro produces nuclear power for 1.5 cents per KWH solar deal signed by Provincial Gov't will pay independents around 80 cents per KWH. I would like to be greener but can we afford it ???
  9. Alaskan Rover is dead on ! In Canada a co. called irving oil had a barge full of oil sink off the east coast 25 years ago later after leaking oil the threat of rust through and a larger disaster forced the gov't to pump out and raise the wreck no cost to oil co. Irving oil sued to get the barge back and won! Canadian tax payer lost again. ( The though of O.J. asking the judge for his gloves back after his trial comes to mind.):lol:
  10. Oil co. have limited liability. The tax payer has unlimited ,your tax dollars will pay for this clean up then you will pay more for oil.Bjvirks is dead on correct now the oil co want to drill arctic oil without safety valves and no technology to handle arctic spills sounds like a plan:biggthump
  11. Looks like Obama owns an oil company now too!The only one liable for anything is the tax payer.
  12. Is it true any one got pics.
  13. Vary length of plate front and rear, stiffen aluminum rails or produce a plate of various thickness. This point is the one that is probably the deal breaker when it comes to personal choice as to whether or not most people will embrace the use of a plate system. It all boils down to your own personal preference as to the feel of your ride. You can only make that choice once you have tried a variety of plate combinations.Nice work SUNSURFER now get out and ride! :)
  14. Welcome to the world of plates! The transition is happening one rider at a time soon we will be many.Watch for news next from the world down under.:)I've been saying but some don't believe this is going to be that next big step in snowboarding hard or soft boot!!
  15. The picture changed from the large square slide (which i thought was pretty cool) to the smaller slots with the bridge piece and the different hinge. Therin lies the confusion. The ptex top and bottom will give excellent slide surfaces. Clocks ticking, our snow is gone now can't wait for you to try it. Have you tried a plate before?? I'll never forget the look on my sons face first time he rode one.
  16. Little aluminum strip over pastic bridge.
  17. That second video is blocked by the IOC in Canada.:nono:
  18. My guess would be yes since the binding inserts are directly in line with mounting hardware but it's hard to tell with all the snow on the board!
  19. Is anyone ready to commit to trying a plate if you had the opportunity? Is anyone going to buy one when available ? Does anyone have enough snow left to try one before this season ends ?
  20. You have a little project. Because you say the bolt stripped i would assume binding of metal surfaces is involved. Lucky so far to have been able to remove old bolt by drilling and extracting. Stainless and aluminum is famous for pilling up so a bottoming tap is the only effective way to be sure you have a clean thread surface for the new screw. Even a new bottoming tap will not thread to the very bottom of the hole so the only way to clean to the end of the threads is to grind a tap flat. I would suggest you tap the top of the hole before grinding it down to be absolutly sure the modified tap follows perfectly in the hole. When taping to the bottom back the off tap every turn and remove debris. lubricate often the back and forth rotation of the tap will polish up the threads and smooth out any burrs. Patience At least if this goes south on you a heli coil is still an option. If you are sure the debris is very minor you can make a thread chaser by hack sawing another bolt perpindicular to the threads just deep enough to mimick a tap it will clean up any burrs. Lub it well
  21. Are you planning on production for public if so what would you charge ? Is wardware plate specific or adaptable to other plates?
  22. Do you want a plate or just want to know how everyone makes theirs? There will be lots to choose from whats on your want list???
  23. Sorry should have said pivot point of hardware. As far as a stable platform is concerned it is only as stable as what the tail of the snowboard encounters since the hardware floats (slides) at the front only. The back of the plate feels everything the rear of the board does which is less than what the front encounters since the front has flattened most of what it encounters. The impact felt by you legs at X is modified by the ability of the plate to transfer shock to the more cushioned load at the rear??? Yes off the board.
  24. If your plate has an element of hinge and slide "off the board" it will be an improvement over previous designs.
