  1. I have absolutely no recollection of what happened at all. Completely blank. Dont remember getting dressed, getting to the hill, the lift up, the run, the conditions. . .not a thing. I have a primal need to know what happened. The helmet shows almost no wear. I think I might take it apart tomorrow as my neurologist is encouraging me NOT to work. Regardless, as I am a safety first kind of person, yes, the helmet will be replaced before I am allowed back on the hill.
  2. Alright BOL folks. Pull out all those tiny violins. I managed to crash off the trail somehow on Saturday and end up in the woods. Grade 2 to grade 3 concussion depending on who's scale you use. Still no recolection of 20 hours before or 10 thereafter. Most of January is cloudy at best. No I do not know what happened Yes I was wearing my helmet Yes I was riding alone I witness reports don't make sense to me Long story short, ride with a friend, and wear a helmet, no if's and's or buts. If we spoke in the month of January and there was no written record, please assume it didn't take place. Be safe out there!
  3. Are you looking for a plate the mounts directly to the board? Or a plate similar to the bomber boiler plate that floats on a pivot and a slider?
  4. what insert pattern does it have? post pics might have something that will fit the bill
  5. Welcome Calle. First of all, I am sure Fin will have this all covered upon his return. His customer service is always great Second, you are a BIG rider. Third, based on the wear marks where the core raises up in the bottom of the plate, I am cruious if you might have the 4X4 hardware in the wrong position. This would both limit the travel of the system, but also potentiall cause the smaller set of marks. Any pictures of the board and plate set up from the side? showing the stack and alignment of everything? Good luck!
  6. At Stratton for Christmas. Anyone that us up riding, give a shout.
  7. I will close off line on shipping and payment details. Narrower then I would normally like, but a fun board for the shelf.
  8. 1) I have never seen a problem with Cateks on a coiler, or a Donek that was attributable to the binding. Only boards that I know had a problem with this are early Kesslers and some SG's. 2) I made a set of homemade plates and no longer bother with them. Where do you ride? They can be yours for . . . I don't know. . . cost of material? 2$? Just can't be bothered to package them for shipping.
  9. What's the length and width? Also, how much camber is left? Consider me interested, assuming the above line up.
  10. I have been meaning to post back to this thread for some time now, and have just found a minute or two. I was discussing this thread with two other hardbooters on the east coast and we were discussing my practice of retiring any metal board that has damage to the metal, even a small nick. Check out Sean Martin's video linked below at ~0:45 he shows the one alarming property of titinal (it is VERY brittle). <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/agmNjqrRUE8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> As soon as there is any stress riser in the metal, the chance for a brittle failure that propagates across the board becomes much much higher. Regardless to how well it is bonded to the next layer in the board, the metal layer will no longer be working in tension and compression once cracked and that can lead to a catastrophic failure that could land a rider in the hospital. That being said, I can see having a different oppinioin on damage that is behind the rear binding as a failure back there is likely to be less damaging to the rider . . . unless you are "pulling the e-brake" do avoid a crash and the board fails at that point. For me, extending the life of a damaged metal board is not worth the increased potential for the sled ride of shame for me, or worse yet, someone else that may get caught up in the accident. Call Bruce. . . have him build you another work of art ;-) Hang that one on a wall.
  11. (pre amble: I would qualify myself as a 190lb, competent freecarver with no large desire to be in the race course) Last year I commited one day to the following: Started on my Donek Metal 184 Plate-less then: Donek 184 with Donek UPM plate Donek 184 with 5mm Boiler Plate Donek 184 with 4 mm Boiler plate Coiler 180 something with an Apex plate Virus Race board with a Virus plate Back to the Donek with a UPM plate Back to the Donek 184 plate-less To answer your questions: for my riding, I personally would pick the 4mm over the 5mm, even at my 190 lbs compared to your 155. I would therefore also recommend the 4 mm over the 5mm. I personally felt that the plate was more ride-able at 4 then 5mm and you only gave up a hair on the top end speed isolation performance. Unless you are incredibly aggressive, or ONLY racing, I would even consider going softer then the 4mm if Fin offers a light weight version. Good luck!
  12. Was at the Startingate near Stratton Vermont and it looks like they are getting out of the alpine gig. Selling off all of their boots and demo boots on the cheap. If you are looking for Head Stratos Pros in good condition at a pretty good price, give the gate a call. Ask for Chance or Gary. (802) 297 3669 If my foot fit in the head boots, I would have bought a pair. If you call them, tell them I sent ya (Todd Brown). Don't know if it will get you a better price, but might save me a buck or two on my next tune!
  13. The number of inappropriate things I was doing to the dog when this picture was taken was well beyond licking or patting. Don't know who ended up being the bitch by the next frame, me or the dog.
  14. was hoping that the photo wasn't going to make the site. . . .taken mid fall with my arse sticking up in the air. oh well . . . atleast the season has started.
  15. Im interested in the entire setup. If the first in line doesn't get it, skip these jokers that want you to split it up ;-)
  16. any idea what rider or weight they were built for? I am all set, but just trying to tease out some information to help get them sold. I am taking a guess that these were made for Michelle Gorgone http://skiing.teamusa.org/athletes/michelle-gorgone
  17. Bobby, Is that a metal? Where along the length is the damage? Is the metal bent, or is there a sharp little "hang nail" there? I have retired a board with similar defects. I would be mindful if it is in the middle %50 of the board. If this is damage on a glass/carbon/kevlar construction board. . . then I agree with everyone else, no big deal. Good luck!

    Moving Sale!

Believe it or not, am interested in the FP 167 Will e-mail as well
  20. Great post (as usual) Beckman. Quick question (and please pardon the paraphrasing and reprocessing of your quote). If a rider (such as myself) thinks that they might fall into this camp, where would you encourage them to look for the disconnect that was "ignored entirely." There is only 1 location in my setup that I would classify as "ignored entirely" and I am curious if it is on your "likely list." I know that cant, and cant alone (you site it as boot cant, but I adjust as binding cant, which I know are not 1:1) is my most often adjusted variable throughout the season. Primairily to improve leverage on one edge or the other (normally to help my toe side). Thanks in advance!
  21. More so then the pivot and hardware design, I am interested in the stats that were debate last year about the Apex/Donek/Bomber/Virus plate shoot out at SES. How tall is it off the board? and how much does it weigh? The video showing Jasey-Jay installing the hardware sure makes it look tall.
  22. I just took my Donek 178, with this years prototype plate and did a small test. I placed a mark on the slider at the resting position. I placed the board between my couch and chair suspended by about 25% of the tip and tail. I sat on the board to let if flex into a turn The arc generated is noted to be far less then pictures taken while actually riding that board I put a mark on the slider in its displaced position I then used my calipers to measure the distance between the two marks Result = 4.76mm I would expect that in reality, on the hill, 10mm is not out of the question in "normal carving use" at 5-10mm, I too would be concerned about an offset axel design putting nasty loads on the inserts etc. Another thing to keep in mind about how small the rotation needs to be, as a board undulates across an uneven pitch, the board both flexes in an arc, as well as locally flexing through a bump. the localized flexing of the board can cause the flexed radius to be half of that of the rest of the board. My bet, Jasey-Jay knows EXACTLY what he is doing here. He is just throwing everyone a head fake by sending out photos in the fashion. Look at all the free press it has gotten him on this forum.
  23. So the local skate park has a nice concrete pool. . . I have been eyeing it for several years now. This weekend I finally got the stones up to go get in and try it out. Talk about a humbling experience! Those little kids make it look so easy! Anyhow, after an hour or so it started to flow. I have to recommend trying this to people out there. The work on the core and the balance muscles as well as the smooth flow have got to be a benefit to carving. Once the crowds showed up, I switched to my camera instead. Anyone that live in Metrowest boston, let me know if you want to meet up!
  24. May be quite interested in the 24-7. Sent PM a while ago to discuss offline
