    Half Dome

Hey! I just did Tallac a week ago! Kind of sucks when two of the friends you took up with you are siblings and they just bicker at each other through the whole trip, though. But yeah, sweet 360 view I always almost give up on the switchbacks. Although my family has the experience, I've still not had the chance to see Half Dome yet :(
  2. From what I hear, Kirkwood is very great for southshore (this statement is made COMPLETELY by word of mouth and alpine carving websites). I'm not at all familiar with it though, and I can't name you the good slopes. For Heavenly, there are things here and there that are acceptable for alpine riding but I would assume that there are better choices out there. As for Sierra-at-Tahoe, their West Bowl portion seems to be most preferable for carving (within the scope of the resort). IMO it's more preferable than Heavenly, but that's probably 'cause I have a small bias due to ALL of my friends that snowboard magically happening to go there and I don't personally know a single person that goes to Heavenly. I'm a 2-year passholder at Heavenly since my mother bought a condo just a few minutes away two years ago. Before that, I was a 2-year passholder (though regularly went here for over 5 years) at Sierra.
  3. Slow time for new vids; felt compelled to bump this. One of the more fond videos for me. Came across the #2 vid in the OP when browsing through palka's old blogs. Very good for the summer blues. Original footage sound intact, cool music track, and, most importantly, people that are tearin' it up.
  4. If I had the money to blow on it, I would be in the same exact boat as you. FF games were the only reason I picked up a PS2 back then. Anyone know much about modding capabilities for the PS3? I've become accustomed to playing undubs, where people take American versions of games, strip the audio dialogue, and replace it with the original Japanese tracks. Because I don't have a PS3, I have not followed that console at all. If that won't be possible, maybe I can give picking up a Japanese PS3 and FFXIII a whack, though I doubt that four semesters of Japanese classes will let me fly. I'm also very much in love with what is supposedly the battle theme; really looking forward to Piano Collections sheet music being released so I can hopefully learn it, if it will be included. Sounds like a very adaptable song without much change in tone to me.
  5. Any JRPG gamers around here? If you haven't caught wind of it yet, a playable FFXIII demo came with the release of Advent Children Complete on the 16th of this month (in Japan, of course). Oh yeah, for that matter, if you've seen Advent Children and liked it, Advent Children Complete is pretty much an extended cut bluray release if you don't know about that. Anyway, the youtube cycle is going on right now of demo footage played and recorded by people being uploaded and SE flagging them to get them taken down. I'm sure if you search through enough of the results, you'll be able to find a couple that haven't been removed yet. Unfortunately for me, I have neither a PS3 nor a 360.
  6. No disks left. Thank you for looking. Looking to trade my TD2/TD3 0 disks for your 6 disks. Have 2. Either trading both in one transaction or just a single-disk trade to two people are OK; prefer the former, of course. Not looking to pay anything besides my own shipping. My disks came from a secondhand pair of TD2 bindings.
  7. Heavenly passholder here. However, I have only experienced the Nevada side. Many of the popular slopes for carvers lie in the Nevada portion of the resort. I have absolutely no knowledge of the California side. Most popular are Big Dipper and Orion slopes from the Dipper Express lift. Also just about as popular is the Comet slope from Comet Express lift. There is also the Olympic Downhill slope which starts at the top of the Olympic Express lift and ends at the bottom of Stagecoach Express lift. The best slope IMO that I have found is the Stagecoach slope that you find by bearing left upon unloading from the Stagecoach Express lift; HOWEVER, as of Sunday (the beginning of this week) they still haven't groomed it yet this season.... huge bummer. When it is actually groomed, it is the ONLY slope (I have found) that isn't uncarveable due to crowds by 11am until the mountain closes. You can see me this weekend taking first chair from Stagecoach Express. However, I have only spent one day on plates so far for my entire hardbooting career, so I may not be a great riding buddy. As for conditions, I can't say. Olympic Downhill to the bottom of Stagecoach Express will be okay with your precious sticks. I assume that Dipper and Comet lifts will be fine too, as they are the WROD lifts and tend to have better coverage. Enjoy.
  8. *facepalm* good call. thanks.
  9. Lunch trays will be last resort, I guess. Would like to use something thicker than a trash bag. What is the lexan, and how would I go about getting that? Really, those saucer plastics that are advertised for sledding should do, though I guess they won't sell for as cheap as they are really worth.. was pretty much wondering if my brother would be right about not having a hard time at all finding them in convenience stores in the area. Besides, it would be nice to use something in which we could take a few runs together on.
  10. Okay, I've recently got a new girlfriend and would like to take her up to the snow. She doesn't snowboard, and we don't exactly have the cash to spend on lift tickets and gear rentals. I figured I could buy some cheap sleds (I'm talking CHEAP CHEAP plastic-disk-type of sleds, nothing expensive like wooden sleds with skates on the bottom) somewhere and find some public snow park or just use the snow outside of my mom's condo. My brother tells me that I'll have no problem walking into any random gas station up in the mountains (if important, Lake Tahoe... southshore) and finding such sleds. Is that true? If not, where would I be likely to find some? I'm not looking for reliable equipment that will last years; it just needs to be extremely affordable... something that will break after even a few days of heavy use will do just fine. Or, any other affordable snow-related activity besides snowball fights and building snowmen will be fine. The lady's only seen snow once. Please help! And I want to take off soon, as today is my last blackout day! Wish me speedy progression for my first season on plates!
  11. Didn't casper post a vid with himself doing that? I'm watching it, and it looks like he does a toe-to-toe at 4:16. Edit: Maybe a DQ for not returning to normal stance from the same direction
  12. I was a bit curious myself. Probably unnecessary, but I'll lay out a few words since it seems like no one else claiming to be Korean or claiming knowledge of Korean has posted yet for any sort of verification, and I may be one of only very few (if any others) of my ethnicity in these forums. However, I'm American-grown... my mom didn't bother speaking to me in Korean while I was growing up even though she's fob, so it's not like I speak it or anything. Anyway, the stuff is written out in Korean, and I can read Korean words without knowing what they mean. The rider in the video does coincide with that of the friendmind.com site; his name reads exactly that, Yoon Dong Hyuk, in the video, with romanization, proper or improper. A quick google search of "high1 ski resort" (High1 shown at the beginning of the video) brings up references to Korea, so I'd figure that the filming in the video took place there. Of course, not trying to make any claims about the sponsors, but I'm pretty convinced that the dude is Korean and is filming in Korea.
  13. While you're chimed in... anything you can tell us about Sir Abel? That guy is my friggin' hero. You have no idea how often I watch that vid.
  14. Dang, I'll tell you what's not ugly in those vids... that Kimiko Zakreski.

    FS - Donek FC1 170

The only 170 FC on the Donek site lists as 10 sidecut and 235 waist.
  16. Funny. Looking at your thread title: att. european residents FOR SALE: PRIOR ATV 167 Reading as: att., european residents FOR SALE and then running with it in his post.
  17. Well... I'm not claiming that I'm personally affected, and of course the layman isn't, either, if that's what you're getting at. And if it needs to be said, there are people out there that archive disc images, large media files, and the like, which there are an abundance of. The only well-known, of-the-norm workaround for FAT I know is to start splitting files, but that is not so convenient. That also doesn't help to actually read the media though; only for backing it up.
  18. Those 2tb and 4gb figures are the entire disk volume limits, no? fat32 should have a ~4gb file size limit... right?
  19. NTFS format is used for, among other things: -Faster read and write?? Don't remember on the speeds -More general reliability and security -Lift on filesize cap Take above with a grain of salt. They're just the general arguments I hear about 'em. In any case, there aren't any problems with with that setup, especially if you're using only Windows systems. Edit: Having raised my curiosity, I did a couple google searches. Seems like you gain everything that one would consider advantageous with NTFS, but it does cause more writing cycles. If you're not in the know, flash memory can only handle a limited number of writes before it starts dying out, though that number is extremely high.
  20. Wow, some of those boards are shiiiiinnyy. I wonder... Has anyone also thought of doing something along the lines of applying some external-application RainX afterwards? Reading through the other thread, it seems like some of the polish waxes already repel snow and it should be easy to kick it off after every run and show off the mirror finish in the lift lines. However, the RainX would, in addition, also take care of melted snow by beading up the water and sliding it right off, which was apparently still a problem. I've never done this; it just came to mind after reading through that linked thread. Don't blame me if you wreck your board topsheet!
  21. Nonetheless entertaining, but is it just me, or have the technical Guinness records always been annoying just for being what they are? Most consecutive turns on a two-man snowboard? Seriously? Why?
