  1. Come on, snow! I should be able to run into you a few times over the weekends this time around. Seeya. -J
  2. Looking to pick up a used, functional BTS system with yellow springs for a fair price. Let me know.
  3. Lo-Pro love!! I got their debut CD when it came out and have totally forgotten about them since. "Sunday" was apparently their only single from that album, but it didn't seem to be very popular. I dug it, though! I'm glad it got decent airplay on my local rock station, otherwise I would've never heard of 'em. This POV is just like any "third-person" POV footage to me; if the video quality is good, riding quality at least decent, and things are easy to see (especially including the rider and his/her technique), then it gets me off without really "getting old." This video is a pretty good example; I'd be really happy with the results if this were my footage. I vote Rock on, Steve! Besides, I like this method the most out of all the attempts of single rider self-capture I've seen so far. What I personally never really cared for was that camera-on-a-stick-passing-between-hands-on-every-turn thing I've seen a few times on here even when the footage is dynamite, but that's just me.
  4. glad to hear your trip back to the sierra nevada for just a couple days worked out great. see you around.
  5. well, school strikes again. got slammed with a project due this weekend. how depressing.

    "Carved"

we're on slightly different wavelengths here, i think? if anything, i was claiming the video to be 30 fps. 25 fps makes the true riding time even less than my original numbers , with the assumption that no frames were discarded during conversion to the final video that us purchasers are viewing. the camera does in fact record up to 120 fps, which is what allows the film to be played in slow motion while not having "choppy" footage.

    "Carved"

Perhaps I can give a somewhat informed guideline for deciding against the purchase. Devil's advocate. Whatever. When I myself am riding, I'm not at all an EC enthusiast technique-wise, although I do love to watch it. I purchased it at around the time it came out, so I don't really know what the extras are that we get besides the 7-minute video. This may be kind of obvious, but I didn't really think it through, myself. The content is 7 minutes of what is actually much less than that 7 minutes of real riding time. The Red One camera records a purported (from a quick Google search) 120 fps. I'm being very rough with calculations, but I'm just trying to get a point across. Please forgive anything terribly fallacious; not trying to preach that you shouldn't buy the film, but there are things that probably would have made me decide against buying it had I realized them beforehand. Ultimately, that's just me being a college student and not really having my own money though. The footage really is beautiful. You can find the trailer if you snoop around on the actual site or search youtube. Just keep in mind that they have a few full-speed shots in the trailer, but the entirety of the actual film is played slo-mo. Let's say that they want to take advantage of the 120 frames/sec by replaying the footage at a more human-readable 30 fps... In the end, you're showing only 1/4 of the actual riding time, turning out to be under 2 minutes. I would have been happier if we had more footage (perhaps just make available all the raw footage as well) AND if we had access to all the same footage played at normal speed. Guess you could tell me to not be lazy and convert it myself, but I'm lazy. :)
  8. hot dog. maybe i will get to ride with you after all this season. it's pathetic. since early january, i've either been slammed with homework or the weather was bad. tons of severe weather warnings issued; i couldn't even make a trip during spring break
  9. Could you share what you did? Maybe you have a post elsewhere on these boards detailing how you did it? I'm sure anything I make that's sort of custom will be a better solution than $10 beds for my pronated feet. :p
  10. mmm. perfect overlap, charlie. i'll be riding 24-26, provided i have no problems or don't get too sore. see you too, kendrick.
  11. Happy to contribute something useful. Keep in mind, these "Vail Resorts" of Colorado also cover two resorts (or one, if they haven't added the new acquisition Northstar to their list) in the Lake Tahoe area.
  12. This page: https://vailresorts.taleo.net/careersection/external/moresearch.ftl?lang=en may or may not help. It is a few links deep from this main site: http://jobs.vailresorts.com/ Cheers.
  13. will make it up this weekend if i can. depends primarily on two variables: -weather -jury duty also have a doc appointment on the 27th.
  14. don't dismiss the weather conditions! lot of storming here in tahoe, california/nevada right now. i'm kind of glad that i decided to postpone my boarding trip due to weather. i wouldn't have ridden at this resort (sierra at tahoe) during this canceled trip, but my season pass is good there, and i do plan on going there a couple times this year. i just heard about this on local tv news. if i heard correctly, they reported 20 total rider ejections off the lifts. as can be seen on the article, five had to be treated for injuries. fortunately, the worst of the injuries (according to the report i caught on the tv) was a wrist fracture. stay safe!
  15. edit: too much snowfall. i'm pulling out. dragonrider, i'm planning on being up on saturday and sunday (at this point, it's still a maybe for me). you might also run into another couple of hardbooters on those days, one who sports a bright orange jacket, riding on either a coiler or an SG. be on the lookout. is the madd still your weapon of choice? *** so sorry that we didn't get to chime in earlier, Mr. Gilmour. IMO, in contrast to what dragonrider has said, dipper feels among the widest to me. it's just that it's only an acceptable run for about the first hour of operation until hardcore crowding occurs. that's when we move on to either olympic or the area of ridge run, as he has said. for afternoon riding, i go way off to the side to galaxy (might not even be open yet right now), where there is groom and no express lift (with less people, there is less crowding, and the slopes are less cut up later on in the day). as for steeps, the only one most people know of is the Stagecoach run (left turn off of the stagecoach lift). not gonna lie; i'm in agreement. i feel that the heavenly experience leaves a lot to be desired for the alpine boarder. if you have other options, definitely take a look! as for food.. well, i'm a college student, so i always ride with a backpack and pack some sammiches an' drank.
  16. here's a thread with another one if you haven't caught it yet.
  17. You start at Stagecoach like I do, so I'm sure you're bound to come through from near the 50/207 intersection. According to Google Maps, it takes 34 minutes via Pioneer Trail to get to Sierra, 60 minutes to Northstar by traveling up the east side of the lake, both time estimates with the starting point at the 50/207 intersection. I used to ride Sierra before I started riding Heavenly. And, I get my bootfitting done at the ski shop in the Northstar village, so I can attest to those time figures listed being pretty accurate during not-so-heavy traffic. As for carving, I don't remember much. Just that the West Bowl at Sierra seemed kind of popular among carvers. The almanac has some writing about these two places. Take that however you will. See you in a couple months. -Jesse
  18. latest edit (dec 2010): now that it's been a while, things have settled down and policies have been further worked out, details of which can mostly be found on the resort websites. some phone calls today, however, yielded a couple of conflicting facts in certain places. anyway, the only thing useful i can say now without writing an essay is that the buyer should beware that sierra sort of "pulled out" of the whole double/triple whammy thing and no longer directly offers their own multi-resort passes (except for a couple exceptions), not that it's not possible to get season passes that grant access to sierra as well as the other two resorts. they have now more or less introduced their own, new tiers of pass pricing (or kept up pricing of sierra only passes and removed most of everything else). so yeah, some of the things in the rest of this post have been updated/changed/worked out, so i'm just going to cross out all of it and tell you guys to now go to their websites and see for yourselves <strike>wow, you're right. anyway, i called heavenly and sierra and this is what THEY told ME (i request that riding of my ass for bad intel' be refrained from ): purchase of HEAVENLY pass (currently priced at $379): blacked out every saturday for the whole season at northstar, essentially (12/18-3/26) edit: perhaps normal blackouts also apply at northstar. however, customer service rep neglected to mention that explicitly. have yet to decide whether to impose blackouts at sierra, said they'll find out "next week" blackouts at heavenly still apply Heavenly COLLEGE pass: have yet to decide about access to northstar and sierra, said they'll find out "next week" Purchase of ANY tier of DOUBLE WHAMMY: As long as you are classified as an adult (age 23-69), even if you buy a college pass, access to heavenly is still granted. did not ask about blackouts, but i assume that they apply. edit: keep in mind that the cheapest Double Whammy tier (currently $419) is not good on Saturdays at Northstar or Heavenly between 12/18-3/26.</strike>
  19. so, i just realized i've got a bit of confusion here. is there a difference between buying a heavenly or double whammy? that is, does buying one of them offer access to more tahoe resorts than the other? you buy a heavenly pass, perhaps you only get access to heavenly and northstar? whereas if you buy the double whammy, you get access to those plus sierra? looks like i'm making a phone call tomorrow.
  20. wow. kendrick was <del>half</del> right. i thought that was crazy talk. that's big news for me, since sierra seems to overwhelmingly be the ONLY pick for season passes; more like, every single friend i have that i'm aware of who snowboards gets the double whammy. i can now ride with them, apparently. thanks for the news.
  21. Impressive mouth size  See you in a few months. -Jesse speaking of useless comments..

not sure you'd get a lot of feedback here. you could check its gamefaqs boards on some of the different platforms it was released on; there're a few threads that praise it, while more of them seem to rip the game apart. not sure how many vids you looked up, but searching "vancouver gameplay" on youtube is sure to net you some recorded gameplay that may or may not further help you make a decision.
  23. interesting information about the different heels that i didn't already know. my apologies for the full-fledged thread hijack.
  24. oops. sort of hit and run. thanks for all of the responses :)
