  1. So I reach with my outside hand down to the snow? Since I am regular, on a toeside, I would reach with my left hand, and on heelside, with my right hand? Speaking of getting low, on my Madd 170, I could be going pretty slow and put a lot of weight on my front foot and make a really tight, low turn, although I couldn't always recover from them. When I would turn with "normal" weight distribution on my feet, it would be a much longer turn. Should I adjust my stance more forward, so it is easier to crank tighter turns, or should I just get used to this weight shift every turn?
  2. Here's a video of me riding Taos over Christmas. This is my third season in hardboots, so I'm still a relatively new carver. I'm trying to get lower in my turns and crank them tighter. I feel like I have pretty good technique on my toesides, but have a lot to improve on my heelsides. I try to follow the rules in Jack's article about toeside turns, but haven't really found anything that good to help me improve my heelsides. In general, I want to be able to get lower in my turns. I started hypermiling last summer and since then, I have averaged 32 mpg, which is almost 35% above EPA for my car (2000 VW Jetta). I don't do anything dangerous like drafting behind trucks or running red lights/stopsigns, just simple things like rolling down the windows instead of turning on the air conditioner and accelerating slowly and paying attention to when I shift gears. I also do some more "advanced" techniques such as turning off at stop lights and coasting with the engine off, but only when there is no other traffic on the road. Welcome to the forum!
  5. I guess I am in the blue camp. I would call myself a beginner/intermediate carver and probably and overall intermediate/advanced rider. I prefer to create the challenge myself on easier runs instead of forcing myself to be challenged by the terrain. I figure some of this is because I'm still a relatively new carver (3rd season, about 25 days on snow) and have a lot of technique to improve upon, so the blue runs are still plenty challenging for me. Although I do occasionally ride on blacks, mostly from the school of thought that the only way to get good on them is to ride them, I sort of feel like I am wasting my time, because I could be on a blue groomer practicing my carving and improving myself there. Also, it is more fun for me to be railing turns instead of skidding around. Where I ride (mostly Red River, NM), all the blacks are all moguled up, so I couldn't carve them even if I wanted to. There is one groomed black, but they only groom half of it, and every texan just /has/ to go down it to prove to their buddies that they can do a black ("Look, Ma, I can do it on my heelside the entire way down!"), so it gets very icy in about 5 minutes. SW: Sort of OT, but how much does it cost to get a hanggliding setup? Do you need to get a light aircraft liscense or just take a few lesons? Do you have to be 18 to do it?   6. I think this has something to do with the round tails on newer Coilers? Or the longer sidecuts on the tails of Coilers? If I get it right, does that gain me membership?;) ...But I think I have to own one to be in the "secret society," any one want to send me theirs?

  9. I got my 3800 on friday, it looks looks great! I can't wait to get out and ride it. Anyone have advice on stance set up? I was thinking all the way back for the powder, but that might sacrifice carveability.
  10. 50cm (19 3/4 in.) on a Madd 170, I have a 32-33" inseam and I'm about 5' 11" tall. Last season I rode with 0* front, 3* rear lift. I broke my inside cant adjuster (right one on left boot) on my front boot, so I think I was flexing too far inward, so this season I am going to try 3* front cant also. FWIW I ride centered, which is a little forward on the inserts.
  11. I think that one guy with the 252 tinkler has done that. I think I saw some pictures/videos on BOL somewhere. So it can be done, but I'm assuming it sucked/was hard compared to regular wakeboarding/slalom waterskiing.
  12. When I ordered regular intec heels from bomber (F2 heels, I think) last season, they included extra t-nuts, so I'm assuming they would with the new fintecs, too.

    Although the iPhone is great, I think if I ever got one, I would still keep my shuffle. It is infinitely easier to use without looking at it...because there's nothing to look at. I mostly use it in my car, and I never have to take my eyes off the road to change songs or pause. With an iPhone, I would have to find it, pick it up, slide to unlock, then navigate a bunch of menus to go to my next song. With my shuffle, I just go to the next song. I think this simplicity also applies if I were to use it riding (I don't listen and ride, but thats a whole other topic...). To use an iPhone, or nano, or any "regular" iPod , you would have to take it out of your jacket, take your gloves off, choose your song, put it back, put your gloves back on, all with out dropping any of your gloves or your iPod from the lift. I think the iPhone is freakin sweet/phone of the gods and all, its just not the best for this application, IMHO.
  14. Good idea, but I'd also have to buy South America for riding in the summer. And maybe the Alps, too, just incase I get bored with the rockies. As For boards, I would buy a lot, but if I have to make it 3, these would be my carving-oriented ones: 1. Madd 158- To see what all the fuss is about. I might have to try metal and nonmetal to see which I like better, though. My short/SL board. 2. Virus- Everything in it. Metal, carbon fiber, Zylon, brown stuff, gold stuff, silver stuff, kitten souls, etc. I figure it will be about 4 inches thick and have about 1 foot of camber. In turn transitions, it will spring me in the air and I will do a few flips before landing and starting my next turn. I will only be able to do one run on it per trail, because each trench will go so deep it will hit the dirt below the snow. Also, it will have diamond edges to protect the edges when I "bottom out" during each carve. My medium/GS carver. 3. Tinkler with split nose and tail. Actually, the splits will meet in the middle, so it would be two boards will be connected only by the tinkler plate thing. At least 2 meters long. Maybe 3 or 4 meters if I'm feeling fast that day. My long/SG stick. I'd say that about does it for my carving boards I'd get if money was no object. Oh, and i'd have to get a skwal (to find what all the fuss is about), and another so I could have some carving skis.

  16. I might be interested in the 3800. I am about 140 lbs, and I've been looking for a good pow/am/freeride board (see my earlier thread). Would this be a good board for my weight? It seems like a pretty good match for the conditions I am planning on riding in. Thanks.

  18. Are they making any money off these? The only ad that links to a non-bomber site is the virus one, so it seems kind of pointless to me. I was excited to see them at first, but I'm afraid they'll get old pretty soon. Either that or they will just start to blend in. It was really exciting to see the TD3 teaser when I first clicked on one that sent me to the bomber store page, though!...Then kind of irritating when there was only that ONE shot.   20. I only have one board, my Madd 170. It isn't "one board to rule them all" or whatever, I just haven't gotten around to buying an allmountain board yet (anyone have a Prior ATV collecting dust?). I'm hoping to keep just these two for a while before I get a some skis, a swallowtail if I end up living somewhere with a lot of snow, maybe a skwal, a big GS board, a little SL board, maybe some telemark skis, and maybe even a monoski and/or teleboard if i get bored on all of those sticks. I'm hoping that before I die/am unable to ski anymore I will be an intermediate at every snow sliding discipline. My brother and I were talking about me buying a second board, and he acts like I'm crazy. He says I need one ride to master all conditions, and instead of spending money on boards, spend money on riding more often. (he's a skier, btw:rolleyes:)

It seems like the more I look, the more I can't decide, but here's what I've got now: - 159 4wd used from prior (is it too small?) - 167 ATV from bomber ($$$) - Atomic Dreamraider (can't decide between 161, 165, and 170) Will it be worth it to pay more than twice as much for the ATV than a dreamraider? Or maybe I should just stop being so anal, buy a board and get out and riiiiiide, man.
