  1. Hey Randy, Are you using it with a cordless drill? I noticed that most cordless drills top out at 1000-1500 rpm., but its recommended to rotobrush at 2500rpm. Do you only use the rotobrush to do the final brushing, after hotwaxing and scraping? Have you tried using it for corking/fibertexing?
  2. Randy, Come out and carve up Mammoth. It isn't too much further than tahoe. I'll be heading up to Tahoe a few times this season to hang out with you TC'ers too :D You usually frequent Kirkwood?
  3. Hi there, topic says it all. Does anyone have some 3 hole Catek discs they'd be willing to part with? Let me know, thanks!!
  4. So Mammoth Carvers: WHO'S GOING????? :D
  5. If you're curious, check out mammoth's snowfall history: http://www.mammothmountain.com/site_common/lib/pastyears.cfm Lets hope we beat the Oct high (halfway there)!!
  6. I've been watching the mammoth forums all day, and now its official: thursday opening, chairs 1 and 11. The weekend will add 2 and 6, possibly the gondola if maintenance is completed. The apparently have a pretty good base (2ft+ wet heavy sierra cement), so the rockboard wont get too damanged :p . D-Sub: This isnt the earliest by far, 94-95 was the most insane. They opened Oct 8th. But the craziest thing is that the season that year didn't end until August 13th!!!!! That's maximizing a season pass, 11 months!!! :D
  7. My progression was softboots then hardboots like many of you here. However I tried skiing for the first time a few times this past season, and I liked it a lot. I was able to link carved turns pretty easily on green/blue runs and the forward facing stance did not seem too foreign, as I've really taught myself to crank way around, especially on my heelsides. Anyway, carving is still my passion, I'll just ski occasionally :p
  8. Anyone use one of these? Pros/Cons/Opinions? Seems like it would make things easier, especially with the season starting (in 2 days possibly!!), and many boards/skis to tune.
  9. Yep check out the following site: http://tognar.com/boot_heater_warmer_fitting_dryer_canting_dryers_ski_snowboard.html Take a look at bontex shims and all of the tongue/ankle pads. I used bontex shims to fit my 27.2cm foot with a 27mondo liner into a 28.0 shell.
  10. wow, that seems tempting. I dont know enough about grinding to get one of these but it sure does seem a good deal. Check this out: http://groups.google.com/groups?q=fontaine+fsc-11&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&selm=k2Wxb.1971225%24Of.293103%40news.easynews.com&rnum=1
  11. I have FOUR new toys to play with this season :D . Two Madds: 158 and a 170, a Burton Speed 178, and a set of TD2 SI's. I should probably fix the cant adjust on my Raichle SB's in the mean time. Can't wait until Nov 11th!!!
  12. Hi all, I have another question. How does the drive from Vail to Aspen compare to Denver? Are there reasonable shuttles from there? It appears that Vail is a little bit closer than Denver to Aspen.
  13. Hi Greg, I'm very interested. Email sent! Thanks, Neil

    helmet

nigelc: thats the basic definition of a concussion. http://www.aafp.org/afp/990901ap/990901e.html I have a giro fuse and love it. Lots of pluggable vents, very modular, and one of the lightest helmets made.
  15. With all this talk of long underwear, you guys have got me thinking about a new shell. I have a fairly old northface jacket that keeps me fairly warm, but is progressively getting worse at staying dry. What can you guys suggest as a good high quality replacement?
  16. I feel the same way as you. I think I have the right tools, but I am often unsure if I am doing things right, especially when it comes to edge tuning. I think the last few SES's have held a tuning clinic. Hopefully there will be one this year too.
  17. Yikes, that runs about $100 each way. Thats $400 for my gf and I round trip. For that much I might as well just rent an SUV, and hopefully split it with a few more people. And I would have a car for the week too. Okay thanks for the help Michelle! =)
  18. d-sub: taper allows the board to release from the carve towards the end of a carve. Perfect half circles isn't the fastest way down a GS course and racers need to release and skid slightly to maintain the proper line and highest possible speed throughout the course. If you're only going to be freecarving, taper isn't necessary. But I sometimes wish my Donek FC179 had a little taper. It is quite hooky at times, especially considering its length at an 11.2m radius. I really have to get my weight over to the other edge otherwise it'll want to keep going uphill! :p
  19. So I'm trying to book my SES plans, and it looks like I can only get to DEN using miles, not ASE unfortunately. Are there affordable shuttles from Denver to Aspen? How much do they usually run? How necessary is a car once we get into town? How far is that St. Moritz hostel from the slopes and other SES related functions? Michelle, regarding these $36 hostel rooms at St. Moritz, how many people per room? Is this rate valid the entire week? Is it $36 per room or per person? Sorry sorry about all of the questions. I'm really looking forward to my first SES! :D :D :D
  20. OVR: I wish I had an answer for you. I've been looking for a decent board tuner in southern cal for a while now. I've found a good ski tuner or two, but they don't do boards. I can tell you where NOT to go at least. Don't drop your board off at the Van Nuys Val Surf. They say they have a stone grinder, but they only have a belt grinder, and they WAY over grind and leave way too many ptex hairs. Also when I was stoopid noob, I took my freestyle board to the bev hills Sport Chalet. Later i found out they just hand sanded the board and put a paste was on top, without even a buff! Useless. Regarding that good ski tuner, Claude at Skinetsports in Studio City is a pro, particularly at boot fitting. He is a ski only guy, but he's probably your best bet for insoles and boot fitting in the LA area. I think he is the only ABB registered bootfitter in so cal. Check out his shop if you have a chance: http://www.skinetsports.com/ I'm definitely paying the $55 + $30 for the PTC tune, and the wax/scrape by Shaggy. The Madd 168BX I had in the past had a fresh tune by Shaggy, and I have never seen edges so sharp and perfect as on that board. Everyone getting a new Madd should definitely select this option. The boards are no doubt worth it!
  21. I had one of their prototype cap construction 168 BX boards. I know that it has different construction methods (rubber dampening around the inserts, CF wings adjacent to the bindings vs a full butterfly topsheet) but it was an awesome ride. SUPER stiff and massive camber, you really had to work it, but it rewarded you with unlimited edge hold and remained very damp. I'm not sure if their new BX boards are going to be designed like the prototype, or if they are sandwich vlams like the 158 and 170. Either way, I know I want one :D
  22. Dominator Zoom has worked pretty well as an all temp wax for me. Relatively inexpensive too. Check it out here: http://www.bomberonline.com/store/accessories/wax_zoom.cfm :)
  23. Just reviving this thread =). So ghostrider, any updates from the WM people? :D
  24. surphadude, They ARE coveted. These are either demos (from ECES) or this ebay bid would place an order for the Sept 30th delivery that some of us are getting. However, those of us who preordered got ours for a bit less. Either way, Madds are worth the going rate. These legendary boards are worth the dough. I know you're starting off with that rossi, but if you really want to step up to the best freecarve/freerace boards out there, get yourself a MADD. :D
  25. June Mountain (near Mammoth) offers a college pass for $99. It's an awesome deal for Mammoth quality snow and no crowds :D
