  1. Bob, I always wondered about the gear from http://www.alpineskituning.com/. How does this waxWHIZARD thing actually work? The edge beveler seems interesting as well, but for all of this gear, it seems like we would be tied to that company for replacement screens/stones/etc. Have you tried any of their other tuning equipment?
  2. D-sub, The mammoth pass is $1200, still way expensive for a pass though. But yes, I got mine back in March for $425! :D
  3. Baka, That Donek sure sounds like a nice ride. I've wanted something with a bigger radius than the FC 171/179, and my 179 is sometimes a bit too hooky for me. Do you know the stiffness index on it?
  4. Doneks are great, and Burtons get the job done adequately, but nothing has topped the Madd 168 prototype I rode a little while back. Extremely stiff and damp, a wonderful ride. I can't wait until the "new" Madds arrive :D I need to get on a Coiler one of these days too. I might just spring for an AM come this season.
  5. It looks like the first batch of boards will be available on the 15th of September, according to this page: http://maddmikes.com/MoreInfopage.htm
  6. Hey bob, Take a look here: http://hometown.aol.com/choccake33/index.html Its sorta disappointing. I agree with the comments above. I'd like either the original, or a plain color & logo or simple pattern.
  7. Well I typically ride at Mammoth Mountain in the California Eastern Sierras. 3500 acres, 3100 vertical feet, 385 average inches of snow (436" this year!!=) and 300 days of sunshine. California's highest ski elevation and longest season. I dont think its the largest in terms of acreage (Heavenly is larger in the US, and Whistler/Blackcomb has 7000+ in Canada), but its up there in vert. I believe Whistler has a crazy 7.5 mile run. Im not sure how much of that is flats or whatnot though.
  8. I was thinking of heading up this past weekend but prior engagements prevented it unfortunately. Only chairs 1,3 and 23 are open, and from the looks of the webcams, there are a good amount of bare spots on the lower parts of the mountain. I hear that the upper mountain is nice corn/spring snow after 10am or so, but it isnt groomed so alpine boards arent necessarily the best choice. Anyway, you should go for it! This is your last chance this season!
  9. Looks like they updated their page a little bit: Some pictures and some wakeboard stuff. Surprisingly there's a picture of what looks to be a freestyle board core. http://maddmikes.com/

    boots

I'm currently using a pair of 123s. They're doing the job at the moment, but they are fairly flexy. When I first got them, I was quite a beginner at carving so they did the job. However as I got better, I realized the limits of the boot. I highly suggest you upgrade them to 4 straps (easy and worthwhile), a booster strap, race tongues to stiffen em a bit and perhaps a thermoflex liner.
  11. And while we're on the topic of strange boards, Shred Grummer has his Scalpel: http://www.alpinecarving.com/zie_scalpel :D Does anyone know any specifics about the 235cm Volkl RT that holds the current speed record? 125mph right? Who was the one who actually pulled off that crazy stunt?
  12. Scott Firestone's excellent alpinecarving.com page saved the original thread from the old BOL forum where CMC initially introduced his board. Check it out here: http://www.alpinecarving.com/228 :D
  13. I was just browsing bomber and noticed this: http://www.bomberonline.com/images/jja1.jpg Hows that for a perfect toeside! And look at the edge angle Jasey's at!!! :D
  14. I think I got between 25-30 days, all weekend warrior days! =) I think my carving really improved this season, especially the wonderful (if limited) time I had on a Madd. And I'm real happy that I only resorted to a So. Cal hill once. Mammoth/June the rest of the time. Woohoo! :D Oh, and I may be hitting up Mammoth at least once more in May. Anyone else heading up?
  15. http://www.donek.com/links.htm Look at the pic at the top. Sure looks like that guy is headed for a world of pain! Interesting choice there Sean! :D
  16. Well it does look like they're making some progress. Looks like a website will be at: http://maddmikes.com/
  17. Hey thomas, My girl is the exact same size as your woman. I got her some inexpensive boots off of bomber and a Burton Wire 147 which seems to be a good balance at the moment. Reasonably flexy, wide enough to be forgiving, but skinny enough to do some reasonable carves. Oh, this was from klugriding.com, you may be able to find something short and inexpensive there. Go check it out. =):D
  18. Neuffy, It sounds like you're talking about Zardoz NotWax. We've been discussing the stuff in another thread. Take a look: :) Zardoz HTH
  19. I definitely wont be trying Rain-X after your story. I'll just bite the bullet and purchase more zardoz refills. Unless someone tries out that Krytox/silicon stuff and has good results =).
  20. So did anyone try out any of these options? Rain-X aerosol, Krytox grease, or silicone spray w/krytox? I'm just about out of Zardoz. This stuff works so well but it wears out WAY too fast. 5-6 hard runs and its time to reapply. I definitely want something cheaper even if it doesn't last as long.
  21. And did anyone ever find out about the base material?
  22. nekdut

    Trade TD1 cants ?

    Yes! I have a 3 deg + bumpers I'd be happy to trade for a 0+bumpers. I'll email you. :D
  23. I have faith in the Madd team. They totally came through on an issue I had with a used demo prototype board, so I am confident that if anything happens to the new boards, they'll be there 100%. And with the construction methods they use to make their boards, I HIGHLY doubt anyone will ever have problems with their Madd =). Just ride it and ride it until you've worn through all of your ptex!
  24. D-sub, If you want a season pass, you should get one right NOW ASAP. They are going to sell out by the end of the day today or early tomorrow. Regarding lodging, I often stay near June which has reasonable rates. Also Toms place has inexpensive rooms too. Staying in town is typically at least $100/night for a hotel. (Motel 6 can be as cheap as $72 though). Also, if its just you heading up, the Davison guest house has hostel style lodging for about $27/night. Google for it. Hope this helps.
