  1. Ive only seen one so far, and it was Trombone Shorty. Check him out if you like New Orleans style music with a new edge to it. The kid is truly talented.
  2. Nah...the college students around here all drink Milwaukee's BEst or IOld Milwaukee since they're the cheapest kegs to buy. Personally I drink a lot of Guinness and local brewed beers, but MHL is great when you don't want to get filled up, or plan on drinking a lot like on a camping trip.
  3. Yeah, but you can pick up a 30 pack of High Life here in WI for $14.99. ITs a great go to beer for those hot drinking on the boat days so you can save money for the gas it costs to tow people around :-)
  4. We've got 4 lakes right here in Madison and each has its own best species. Right now I've been getting my limit in nice Crappies, and the waters warming up enough that the gills should start biting. Also caught 3 legal largemouth's on my crappie jigs...that s a fun fight on 4 lb test. Never learned to use a flyrod, but I caught a couple of medium sized brookies on a beetlespin during the early catch and release season. Fishing is great, and they're yummy too
  5. Trumpet since 1986. Played in lots of things including the marching band at University of Wisconsin......That was a great gig, it even got me an all-expense paid trip to Tokyo for 2 weeks when UW played Mich State there in 1994. Road trips are great. Now all I do is play in alumni events and my lips and tone are shot. Started with the harmonica so I have something to noodle around on without pissing off then neighbors  Also, I rock the guitar in Guitar Hero
  6. EnisiWaya wrote: THen there was the problem as you hinted of them not have the strength or aggressiveness to push the skis uphill as they fell down the mountain. I was running the original K2 Extremes at the time and they could not understand the reason I could ski carved turns on blue ice was that i was doing push pull turns that allowed me to load the skis before the fall line use the centripital force to load them in the fall line and get low and absorb excess pressure at the end of the turn. (Same as carve board so learning hard boot boarding was easy for me.) Constant pressure round ribbon candy turns. They would all complain about the ice. But they all were still loading their skis only at the end of the turn as they came out of the fall line. LOL haya buddy. Exactly!! That's why the cross-through turns on the snowboard were really the first type of strong carved turns I made......it was because it just seemed like the natural way to make a fast, hard carved turn stemming back from my skiing days. The skill sets are similar, you just have to adjust for body positioning on skis vs. snowboard. :D Sorry for the threadjack as well. My son is 6 now and rocks the whole mountain with me. I started him at 2. I don't have much to add because the others covered it well, just remember to let them dictate the day so it stays fun.
  7. My boss at my real job is one of the instructors for Harold's camps every year. It was real interesting to talk about the movements in carving on a race board vs. carving on skis and the similarities in both. Interesting, but a lot of the "wrong" movements are the same in both modalities. PMTS is a great system with the new shaped skis because they allow the beginer to initiate with both skis easily if taught correctly. It was hell back in the day trying to teach people to pressure the INSIDE and outside ski together back on the straight skis because you had to be such a strong skier to decamber the inside ski to get the sidecut to work. ahhhh.....memories
  8. Great footage. I like the switch carves. What was the pitch like where you were doing the laid out carves? I find I can only hold an edge doing that if its pretty steep. Looks like Copper?
  9. Thanks for all the replies. I bought a Coiler AM from Ben. Now I just need to save up to upgrade to Titanal in a few years
  10. I answered Dr./healthcare, but i actually do medical research. Orhtopaedics to be specific. Some pretty cool things out there for bone healing and cartilage injuries right now.
  11. Thanks for the replies. I think the tanker is a bit wider than I need. I ride 27 Mondo's and don't get too many true powder days so something in the 23cm. range seems to be the sweet spot for me for all around use. Still trying to decide if I should just wait and raise some more $$ for the ATV or Coiler AM or get a Cross. Tough decision. Thanks for the replies and I am watching, just draggin my feet....sorry if that troubles anyone.
  12. I received this Spyder backpack as a captain's gift in our ski league last year and I love it: http://www.bergsskishop.com/spyder/backpacks-p4588c2253.html Its got a space for boots on the side, and the mesh helmet holder is great because it stows away when not shlepping the helmet. Now, it is pricey, so for my wife's stuff we just got an oversized boot bag with backpack straps and fit the helmet in with the boots.
  13. Thanks for the replies. I was kind of hoping to hear some of those things, especially about the bumps becasue I intend for it to be my bump/offpiste board with plates. The Coiler AM-T's have been getting rave reviews, and I do own a PR-superboard, but the cross is more in my price range these days. Its funny because the reason I posted was I saw theat one on e-bay and was wondering if I should take a chance on it...seems like a good deal.
  14. HEy all, I used the search function to look for info on the Volkl Cross and only came up with threads in the classifieds. Anyway, I'm looking for an all mountain board and was really looking at ordering a Coiler AM ( I have a PR now) and also really enjoyed the ATV that I demoed, but they area bit out of my $$ range right now and was wondering if anyone has opinions on the Volkl Cross, especially if they can compare it to one of the other 2 boards. Thanks :)
  15. Hey there, I've done some remodel work for a friend of mine and he insists that he pays me. I told him no, but he knows I want an all mountain board so he told me he'd get one for me. I was wondering if anyone out there has a Coiler AM 169 (or 172) or one of the smaller ATV's? Also wondering if anyone has an opinion on the Volkl Cross? Thanks.
  16. +1 what Bordy said. I've fixed a lot of rust spots over the years. The worst that can happen even with a lot of rust is some pitting of the edge. A good filing and polishing can fix that, and even if there is some small pitting left over after that it won't affect the ride or the edge hold, especially on the tail.
  17. We're getting 9-12 inches here today.....a bunch of us are busting out of work early to hit Tyrol Basin. I'm sure it will be good all weekend too.
  18. Its been disappearing fast here in Madison. I'm headed to Wausau this weekend to check in on my hunting cabin and my uncle who lives there said he got his 4-wheeler stuck trying to get back there and that they still have about 24 inches coverage out in the woods. I would think the hill would have at least that much, but who knows what this warm weather will do over the next few days.
  19. Nope :-( After talking with Bruce, I don't think it was a good fit for what I was looking for. On the bright side, now I can order one directly from Bruce
  20. Just wanted to drop a line and say what PAt does is way cool. I board at Tyrol here in WI and we've talked them into doing snowboard gates for the public Nastar about 3-4 weekends a year, and 1 night during our adult race league. The race league night is a hoot....a lot of the skiers complain, but the good racers on skis actually like the gates because they can get waaaayyy over on them without getting wacked.
  21. Bummer. I'm heading to Wausau on Sunday. Tyrol will be open to the end of the month and will be running gates until then as well. Maybe you guys will want to pop down there.....late season lift prices are in effect now.
  22. Favre retires as reported by Fox Sports. Sad day here in Wisconsin :(
  23. HEy there, My son is only 5, but has been racing for a couple years now (his decision BTW...don't want to be one of those parents that makes their kids do stuff) and they obviously outgrow their stuff pretty fast. If you're not concerned about new stuff I would check out then local kids racing groups. Our group has a resale every fall and I started getting his stuff there. Racers in general take very good care of their equipment, much like hardbooters and their GS boards. I have even found that most racers have their "race skis" and "rec skis" so the race skis are usually lightly used and in great shape at about half the price of new. The best part is, then the next year you can resell them again and not be out too much money on the trades. I know kids sometimes get stuck with that "I need new" thought, but if it works for you I'd check it out. On a side note, he's got his snowboarding down enough that he can follow me down the blue runs, but still hasn't asked about a race board.....in fact he keeps asking me when I will ride my "fun" vboard again:rolleyes:
