  1. I think I saw you out on some little tiny slalom skis a couple weeks ago on a Sunday. Defintiely look us up and we can get you pointed in the right direction. I know Bob Whitehead has a board he doesn't use too much either. Anyway, with your racing background (fastest guy on the hill)getting you going on the board shouldn't be too hard as you understand how the body, and the edges work in relation to the hill. Thats usually half the battle with new guys. See ya out there sometime.
  2. I'm sure we've bumped into each other out there, especially if you do Monday nights. I'm the captain of the snowboard team DeadSexy. You probably have seen us in the bar afterwards playing Poker and drinking profusely. We all ride GS boards, and even on our limited hill you can crank the turns if the board isn't too big. Most of us ride stuff in the 170-180 range around here. I even use my GS board in the slalom courses. There are a few of us who have been riding plartes for about 12 years, but the others all learned and borrowed gear from us. There are plenty of gear vacuums between us and you can defintitely try out different stuff. In fact, I'm riding a friends Rossi world cup 172 until my new Coiler gets here. I sold my Oxygen Proton to Dan Mochacta if you know him. He is starting to hardboot this year too and I'm sure he'd let you ride that board. Either board would be a better place to start than the little one you have. I also beluieve that the Rossi is getting sold as soon as I give it back :) It also pays to ride on Sunday when they have NASTAR because a lot of guys are out and always willing to help out with tips. Brent Alderman is another guy who is out alot and good with advice. If you see a hardbooter just stop and talk, chances are we all know each other anyway. Brett
  3. Damn you....damn you all to hell I'm just jealous I couldn't swing the work thing. We should do it again alter in the year....maybe here in WI.
  4. Hey Guy, Those Rossi Throttle's I believe were made with a foam core and one so small would be quite easy to overflex for a person your weight. It might be okay to learn for a bit on becasue it may be forgiving, but it also may hinder you as it probably won't hold an edge to well when its overflexed and may be why you were getting bounced around out there. A larger GS board in the 170's would be a bette starting place for you. As an aside, where inthe Midwest are you riding? We have alarge contingent of hardbooters here at Tyrol Basin in WI and we always like to help new people out in the sport with riding tips, gear, etc.
  5. I wasn't racing yesterday, but they had me forerun the course just to check its set. Met a whole bunch of the G-teamers and they were all really nice and polite. You definitely have some good young carvers coming up. Unfortunately, I didn't give them much of a forerun time to shoot for since I was opn a borrowed board for the first time while waiting for my Coiler. Brent is still good, but slowing down. There's a couple of us who will beat him sometimes , but we don't run USASA much anymore because of the cost involved if you know you're not making the trek to Nationals. Oh....I also wish I could afford a prior metal like the fast kid....can't remember his name
  6. HEy, I wish I had seen this post earlier. We had some practice gates set up on Wed. night, and again on Sat. there is barely enough snow to actually put in a gate and the conditions are abysmmal. We really need some cold weather soon or things are going to be really bad( like closing). For races here at Tyrol the runs wil always count towards NASTAR. Brent always wins those USASA races becasue the rest of us fast guys don't want to spend the $$ on the weekend when we know we won't be going to Nationals
  7. I haven't ridden a Radon, but I use a Don with plates for my freeride board. The construction on the Atomics is really good, and I've never come close to breaking it becasue of the plates. I do know that the Radon is a bit softer flexing than the Don so I can't really say how it will work in that sense, but I haven't had any complaints about my board.
  8. You guys should post that one up on the main forums. It is awesome how you can see each cord going up in the air from the board. What kind of camera was that?
  9. HEy Jake, I know Aaron works strange hours and doesn't get to check his posts more than a couple times a week. I'll let him know that you're looking.
  10. I also have one of those that I don't use anymore if you didn't find one yet.
  11. While smaller than some of the MI hills, it is super carver friendly. One of my best days of the year here in the midwest was last year up there. There a number of runs that have a nice steep pitch, but also wide enough for good carves.
  12. I have all kinds of ectra PVC and/or wood laying around. The hardest part is getting a bar that is long enough that doesn't flex down a bunch. The supports are easy, and proabbly easier built out of wood. I can draw up a plan real quick if someone up there wants to build it. 2X2, with a nice point, and dowels spaced at 1 inch intervals from a base snow line on the 2X2. Could also put the dowels in a 1 1/2 inch pvc pipe, just have to use an epoxy instead of a glue. Brett
  13. I race, primarily GS, on a pair of TD2's with the purple rings. I rode a fairly soft, damp board though so I liked the purple rings. The yellow rings I have on a second board kit on my all mountain and I definitley notice a difference in the flex under the bindings. I know a lot of people on the board like to race on the less stiff Burton bindings, but I have found that I really like the feel for the board and responsiveness I get from the TD2's. I found that the TD2's were a huge improvement over the TD1 as far as being able to recover from a mistake or having to go through skier ruts in our race league. The e-ring seemed to give just enough dampening and cushion to absorb some of the energy that used to get transferred right to my legs. I highly recommend it, but then again I've always liked the solid feel from boot to board, even on my softboot setup with step-ins. Hope this helps you some. I haven't had the chance to ride the suspension kit yet, but I really want to try it, particularily on my all mountain setup. I think I am happy with the TD2 as it is for racing as I can always go down 1 step in elastomer and I think the suspension kit would be too much play for me, but that is just a guess at this point.
  14. Winter Carnival at Tech rocks. Almost went to college there, but UW had a much better guy/girl ratio :)
  15. Oxygen still available....will take offers.
  16. I'm sure some of us will make the trip again. In the case that we can't, we need to get you guys down our way for a day. We could probably even set some gates and have a fun little race.
  17. Hello Skategoat, I have a 172 Oxygen for sale in the classifieds. Don't know if you're worried about that length, but it was a really damp forgiving ride. I bought a Coiler so no longer need it. It is in great condition as it was primarily my race only board.
  18. Actually, I looked at the F2 boardercross boards at the house, and the price was right, but they only had a 159(?) or soemthing like that for the largest size. I already am on a 165 Atomic Don for my freeride board and I really didn't want to go any smaller.
  19. Defintely, on both accounts. I've been e-mailing him about demoiing the Whistler, but it would be really cool to get him to develop a slightly more carve oriented board that still had the turned up tail for goofing around and switch riding. Maybe I should e-mail him that there is a group of us still interested and willing to help. Maybe we could even get him to show up at this years MWES? Let me know what you guys think and I'll send him an e-mail if it sounds like something people would be interested in.... And like karl said...those topsheets are "Hawt!"
  20. Here are pics of the Rossi and Oxygen. I do have high res pics that I can e-mail.
  21. Pebu, I,ll be sure to send you an e-mail when I get home from work later tonight.
  22. Yes, they would. I started out in ski boots in rat traps a long time ago when I started hardbooting. The boots fit fine, but you will have the overhang thing to deal with like with all ski boots becasue of their long base.
  23. Hey there, I was thinking of hanging on to those bindings for my son, but I am willing to part with them. They are Burton Rat Traps, but are in really good condition. thats a picture from last year and has my wife's boards in it too...and the FP has already been sold. I've been too lazy to size correctly to post here a pic of the Oxygen, but can do it anyone wants to see it.
  24. Yeah, I e-mailed him and got a nice response. He said it is still a possibility, but I also got the feeling that he is trying to figure it out a little more. On the plus side, I asked him if that Whistler will take plates and he said he rides it with Cateks and his friend rides it with Bombers and they love it. I think I'll demo one this year. I've been looking for a good "freeride" board for plates that still lets me ride switch and play in the park whe nI want to.
