    Smuggs

Anyone ever spend time at Smuggs? I'll be there from the 23rd to the 30th of this month. If anyone is going to be around hardbooting, let me know.
  2. What's the sidecut on the hot shine board?
  3. Are the 2 Prior's still for sale? Looking for another good short board - think they'll hold up to a 175lb novice? Did you post the side cut on them?
  4. Anyone going to be up on Monday or Tuesday? I'll be there with my family - never been to Sunday River but it sounds like a pretty nice place - large. I'll be on a new Generics with UPZ and Cateks - name's Daniel. Doesn't sound like I'll see too many hard booters around but if I see someone, I'll holler.
  5. I may take your speedball off your hands. How is the flex - anything left?
  6. I'd love to do a weekend of camping, fishing etc on the vineyard, but won't be around this weekend. If another weekend is in the plans later this summer, I'd definitely be up for going.
  7. I had a bad week when the rains hit, but nothing as bad as 4+ inches of basement water. I ended up with an inch in the worst places, puddles mainly, but the sump didn't kick on. The sump in our home is powered by a ceiling mounted outlet which just happened to be a GFCI and for some reason it was switched off. Not until I saw the big puddles did I realize this. Once it switched it on, it pumped for 3 days because the water tables are so high in my area. We bought the home this past fall after a ton of rain and never saw any water so we assumed it was okay - wrong. Our sump worked very well once on, so I assume the water table probably wouldn't have been a problem had it kicked on at the right time. Since it was delayed, the table just came through the foundation slab faster than the water could be pumped out. Never again though - I'm going to a backup system but worst case scenario is an inch at most so we're probably okay. The only problem we had was that since we just moved, we had all sorts of stuff in boxes in teh basement that were soaked. I hate wet cardboard smell and mildew.
  8. To be honest, I've done very few measurements of the angles on my cateks, and used the good ole trial and error method - setting them where I felt comfortable on the floor, then used them on the slopes, and adjusted to get where I wanted them - I still don't really know what angles they're at, although I've made some guesses. The nice thing about these bindings is how easy it is to adjust the cant and lift on the fly.
  9. I've done it both ways and it still seems to work itself loose. Maybe because they're older and don't have the little divots in the base plate they don't work as well.
  10. I have a set of Cateks on my board, and I really like them. Go to http://www.catek.com/tiltcalculator.htm and it'll tell you exactly how much cant, lift, etc you're using based on the number of turns for each bolt. You definitely need to keep tightening them periodically, since the kig-pin or set screws tend to work themselves loose. I usually do this at least once before riding and again sometime during the day - its really not that big of a deal - just bring an allen wrench that works with the king-pin and it'll just need a tightening to firm things back up. I periodically shake the binding plates to see if their coming loose. You'll get used to it once you get into the habit of checking.
  11. That Sims board sounds like a piece of s*&t, why don't you go ahead and ship it to me and I'll get rid of it for you....just kidding. The specs on that board sound very similar to the size and measurements I've been looking for. If you decide to sell it, let me know.
  12. Kids aren't the only ones who've decided to buy them up. A lot are being purchased to run in SpecE30, or just as track cars - they're great cars for that purpose, they're cheap, and the engines are bullet proof. Here's mine in action: http://www.flyingbrickperformance.com/cart/index.php?main_page=infopages&pages_id=3&zenid=c1f778368a08d43ccb2a884889a4b8ba Jack, if you ever need parts, let me know - I can get pretty much anything including stock parts.
  13. I've been around BMW's for a while now and must say even though they might come with an a**hole tag (that's debatable in my mind - most of the BMW enthusiasts I know are great guys), they're great cars. I'm prone to stay with the old school cars since I track a 1990 e30 325is regularly, and own an online store dedicated to them, but I also know several who track their e36's and they love them because of durability - not sure how the newer models are doing yet. Audi's and VW's are always electronically challenged in my mind, Subs rust but the engines will last forever, and I don't know much about the Saabs. The BMW's have bulletproof engines and are mechanically sounds cars. The computer gizmo's have done them poorly over the last few years though as mentioned already. The only issue I've heard with the ix models is that the drivetrains are a nightmare on the wallet if something goes wrong - this was also very true on the earliest ix models - this may have since changed though. They handle well, are comfortable on long drives, and will last many many years if maitained well - moreso than most cars. Many of the e30's that I deal with on a regular basis have well over 200k on them, and they're on the track kicking my ass. Most of the newer engines are just as reliable. Just my $.02.
  14. You should add some hide-away hanglider wings to that setup. A guy with a full belly of chilly could go for miles.
  15. Here's another place to look for stuff - great if you don't want to dump a lot of money on something that's not going to be used long - i.e., kids. I stopped rentals once I found this place - we have 2 kids so easier to recycle things than trade them in. http://galacticsnowsports.com/junior_skis/
  16. I'll take some pics - but also would like some specs if you have anything. dcteague@comcast.net
  17. She was pretty good about it - laughed actually - at least until we pay it. I think I might be done for the season after this trip - unless somewhere close gets really cold or it snows soon. The first event is in April I think, but I have a lot of work to do on the car to get it ready so I'm probably not going to get back on the track until July at the earliest - with kids its been pretty hard to get my car ready. Now that they're getting less labor intensive, I'm hoping I can get back out more.
  18. I'm up for it - prefer water activities, flyfishing, canoeing/kayaking, waterskiing - would love to try wakeboarding. Non-water activities are good too - beer and bbq's .
  19. The drive up was fun - $250 speeding ticket Discounted tickets - $115 for the family The slush - priceless - it was okay for about an hour, then I had to figure out how to slolam waterski again. I decided to just go with it, and slide around with the family until around 3pm. It was bad enough that at certain times, you would see small ponds in the middle of the slope. Overall - I had fun with the family and I was able to do a comparison with the other places I've gone this year, and at 1.5 hours away, I much prefer Sunapee over Waterville. Its an hour closer, seems to have better runs, and its cheaper. Getting ready for any rock climbing yet?
  20. Havent' seen this one yet.... The Spandex Eating Race Wannabe - nick-named the "Mutant Sausage” Often found at the bottom of the slalom race course smoking a cigar, waiting for another hopeless victim to consume as they finish their run, the mutant sausage appears to resemble Santa shoved into a child sized spandex race suit – all the while hopelessly attesting to his phenomenal run that few saw, and those that did, well, it was like watching an alcohol jello drink shoot down an ice sculpture into a toilet. It has been hypothesized that the mutant sausage skier is a hybrid of the Tram Farter and the Black Hole, exhibiting a never ending spew of sh!t but with a modern scent - cheap cigars replace the internally derived methane. This breed is only seen from the highest gondolas and trams, but once seen, they will forever burn an image into your skull that is never forgotten - a very unfortunate experience.
  21. Ed, how was the morning cord? Got up at 6:30 and started to get ready and ....."where are you going!" needless to say, the day was done. At least it was justified by us going as a family to Sunapee tomorrow:biggthump .
  22. I'll be there if anyone's going to be around - probably be my last ride of the season unless I can get further north the following weekend - otherwise its time to start yard work and getting my track car ready for summer.
