  1. Good brushing with a wire brush while tuning will keep the base structure in good shape. That will stretch out the time between grinds. The two situations that I will get a grind and structure: 1. I've beat up the board too much from hitting rocks, trees or whatever and normal ptex repair is not holding well. 2. The structure has become flat. I am a heavier rider and often am riding on west coast snow with higher water content. I find that when the structure gets flat I slow down. Having a decent structure helps the board run well.
  2. Nice! This makes me want to move up there even more.
  3. Do you have any black or silver tongues that you'd be willing to sell?
  4. Friday rode with Don and Shane. Powder was fantastic. It was well consolidated and lightly wind packed. I was amazed how well the carving board handled. The untracked bowls were epic. Saturday rode with Don, Shane and MikeT. In the morning, the groomed snow was nice but it got cut up and tracked out pretty fast. Plus it started dumping snow at about 11. But got to I ride the Kessler that Shane is trying to sell and was duly impressed. That's quite a ride.
  5. I rode this board today. I must be riding a Dihatsu because this board felt like a Cadillac. This board turns in very easily, was smooth and damp but had lots of pop out of the tail. I was quite impressed.
  6. Yes, board is available. Private message me or enable private messaging for your account so I can send you a message.
  7. C'mon now tokenskier, side slipping is a skill. I'm teaching my 5 year old to do it right now.
  8. +1 on finding the right fit. I tried on about 20 helmets before I bought my most recent one. Giro makes really nice stuff.
  9. Yesterday a skier on the chairlift who was looking at my Donek that was built last spring said, "Is that old?"
  10. I'll be there Friday and Saturday. I'll be bringing these boards if anybody is interested. GS board: Coiler 190 PRC http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=33900 Burton M6 Asym Goofy http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=33901 Kids board: Burton Chopper 101 http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=33902
  11. SOLD 1993 Burton M6 Asym Goofy This board has barely been used. It has a huge amount of camber left. The topsheet is still shiny. There are slight marks from where bindings were mounted and a small chip in the topsheet from one of the bindings (circled in picture). There is a small chip and scratches in the topsheet near the tail (pictured). Base has no damage. The edges have surface rust but look like they have never been ground and have lots of life left. $50 plus shipping. Sorry no international shipping.
  12. SOLD! Coiler 190 PRC with 7.3 flex. 17m sidecut radius 20cm waist 1 degree base, 2 degree side This board is in great shape. It has been well cared for during the four years that I have owned it. It has a fresh tune on it. Base is in very good shape. Edges have lots of life left. $300 plus shipping. Sorry no international shipping. Cowgirl sticker included. :D Bindings and stompad not included.
  13. Make sure to measure your feet to find your proper Mondo size. I'm close to your size and weight and I usually wear a US 14 or a 13 wide. When I tried to do the conversion to Mondo, initially I ordered a 31.5 but it turned out to be too big. I measured my feet and they are just over 30cm so a Mondo 30 fit me much better. I also had the boot punched out to make it wider. For a starter board, I would recommend looking for a Donek Axxess. I used to ride a 177 and I found it stiff enough but not too much. The Axxess is also a bit wider having a 21.5 waist. I would think a 177 or 182 would be a good size for you. You can often find them in the classifieds.
  14. So, last weekend for me was apparently the "ask the carver about his gear" day. Aside from the many questions about the boots being ski boots I had these funny interactions. ----- Liftie: That is a skinny board! ----- Kid: Those are some weird bindings. ----- Guy on snowboard: Is that a downhill board? Me: Well, you'd call it a carving board or alpine board. Guy: Can I take a look at it? Me: Yeah, sure. Guy: So, its like a ski. Me: No, its a snowboard. Guy: Are you sure? Me: Yes, I'm sure. ----- Man with Kid: Is that easier than regular snowboarding? Me: No. ----- Teenager: That board is sick! -----
  15. Jim, that's a sweet graphic. Where did that come from?
  16. Well, I think everybody can agree that carving lost some amount of gear availability and affordable pricing when Burton dropped out of the game.
  17. I, for one, really like the idea of marketing outside of snowsports. I had Sean Martin make me an extra wide all mountain board last fall. At SES I spoke with him about it and thanked him for making a board that could not be purchased from any of the major board manufacturers. We talked about how there really aren't any boards out there for big footed riders like me. He mentioned an idea he had about marketing wider boards to big and tall stores. I thought that was a really interesting idea. Michelle, its too bad that you haven't gotten any traction with getting carving into skateboarding and surfing magazines. Getting some carving scenes into a major movie would be a great promotion of the sport. Not just a Warren Miller film but a typical Hollywood movie.
  18. +1 on the demo tent road show. One idea that I've had kicking around my head is to do exhibition carving at different mountains along with demo tents and promotion of the sport. The kind of thing I'm talking about is getting a few talented carvers to rip it up right under the lift where they can get good exposure and then follow that up with the promotion at the demo tent. Sort of a Carving All Stars tour.
  19. Loddo, I really like the title sequences and editing. I especially like the 3 panel sequence when you are transitioning from toe side to heel side and back again. Great stuff. I love WhiteNoise! The feel of that one with the music is great. And the credits at the end are a crack up! Nice work.
  20. I'm getting the distinct feeling that those of us out west have to make the choice because of the access to good snow. For the east coasters the answer seems to be the obvious - pow.
