Neil Gendzwill
Not since I sold the goats. ETA 15 years. And the above was a joke no longer valid since an edit.

DrCR
Last season was the start for me. Polling BOL is a good way to find out how much HBing has grown? I guess you will find guys like me new to BOL as well as the sport though.
Jim
All of the sufers in my area quit HB's around 98'. I started two years later...bummer dude
Jeffrey Day
I've been snowboarding since March 97, hardbootin' since March 00! I'm averaging about 30+ days a year...and I'm still just the terminal intermidiate! You'd think I'd be better at this, eh? Oh well, I'm havin' fun anyway!! Mike T
Snowboarding since 96-97, tried plates for the 1st time in 00-01 (didn't count that season since it was only twice), mostly plates starting in 02-03.
Jon Dahl
Plates on a Sims all mountain 160 in spring '97, full time plates '01 season. Including backcountry.
Slow Eddie
Riding since '86, plates since '96. First board was a Burton Performer Elite 150, first alpine board a Crazy Banana Rush 168 (asym). I've tried to sell the Crazy B a couple of times, but something always seemed to kill the sale. I guess the universe is trying to tell me to hold onto my "first" boards, since I still have both of 'em, and now I wouldn't think of selling either. Gtanner
Started on a neon Burton Safari in 1990. Switched to plates in order to race in 1993 and have been addicted ever since. -Gord
ak_rider
started snowboarding in 90, started HBing in 01. so 3 seasons HBing, I don't count last season since pins sticking out of my wrist prevented me from doing more than a handful of runs in plates. Kirk
Started riding in '90 - transitioned from 3-strap (Flex baby!) on M6 to plates on PJ in '92/'93 season!
Derf
I tried a PJ6 with Reactor boots from a Burton demo van in 1994 at Jay Peak and I was instantly hooked! Since I was in high school and I bought a Burton Air 6.1 with Airwalk boots the year before (for versatility), I had no money, so I had to wait a couple of years when I got enought moeny and got A Freesurf Highlander 155 on sale during the summer of 1997 (1995 model year). With that I bought Burton Performance plates Burton Furnace boots (on sale, not as big a discount as the board - I still use them to this day). By that time, I spent half the time with hardboots and half the time with softboots, all depending on the mountain and the conditions. Still, I was having a hard time with my alpine board as it was too stiff and short for my liking. I then sold it in the Autumn of 2000 to get a new board, but did not get one until the Autumn of 2001. The Winter of 2001 was hell, I almost stopped snowboarding. The I got my actual board, a Nitro GTX 166 (2000 model year), and started having fun again. I got out my soft board twice, once to teach a friend to ride properly and once because I was expecting Spring conditions. I regreted getting it out the second time. So that's my story and where I am at. I am looking for a new board for this winter for softer conditions/crud, and I am hesitating between an all-mountain board, a BX board or a wide freecarve board. Jutta
One of the exceptions, I know; I've never been on a soft set-up. After 20+ years on skis my SO bought me an alpine board in 1999 - I didn't have a choice but to start on a hard set-up.

Neil Gendzwill
Started in 1986 with a Burton Elite 150 with fastex/webbing, which required adjusting every run. Went to a Sims 1710 Blade, the bindings didn't need adjusting but they were painful, painful with the Sorel/ski bladder combo. Bought a Gnu Race Room with Elfgen Plates and hot pink Koflach Snowboarders in 1990, never went back to softies.
Alex Walters
Starting this year. I'm so excited. I'm going on my first trip of the season in early december and I can't wait to try out my new board. In fact I'm so excited I'm actually wearing my boots as I type this :D. ncermak
would anyone agree that we could possibly say based on this poll, that hardbooting is growing...looking at the trend in the 4-8 year period? my assuption being that it takes peopel a year or two to learn about BOL?
