barryj
Well I took the MK Variant to a trusted Ski Tech we use that I know does excellent work for base prep and a solid wax job. On seeing the board the Tech said that the base was one of the most fuzzy/hairy Donek's he's seen.....which I did notice myself when I unboxed it. Sean's generic paperwork that came with the board stated it was good to go/ride with a just good waxing but did suggest a base grind to get the utmost performance out the board "if racing". The Tech's suggestion was of course to add structure/base grind and reset the 1/2 edges. Just wondering how many of you 1st time MK riders just slapped some wax on and rode it like you stole it! Or.....did you go straight to your local shop first for some structure and a base grind??

Jack M
Donek usually leaves alpine boards raw because they know we are particular about tuning. Maybe that text was just standard boilerplate for all boards. It will be a different board after a good grind and bevels.
Kneel
^ Makes sense. My MK was second hand so I can't speak to that. HOWEVER, all my other boards from Sean were delivered with a "Ready to Ride" tune and have been great. It's an option you have to check while ordering...
