I'm interested to find out how many people expanded, decreased, or just left their quivers alone this season. I've expanded mine, but for two different reasons. The Tiger I'd always wanted, just the reputation was enough to make me want one, but the Oxygen I bought so I could have a softer flex board in the quiver for those days when I wanted one. What prompted you to buy, sell, or stay the same?

Thanks,

Paul

I have to agree with you Mirror, I still pull this board out first 99.9% of the time. I tried to expand my horizons a little this season, and tried to get over the "lift line" anxiety of bringing out the Burner to play, but would always go back to the F2 at some point. I did spend my entire last day though on the Renntiger. I had a blast and can't wait until next season to get this thing on some good groom to really see how it performs.

Thanks,

paul

Technically, my quiver expands, but I am just replacing old boards and keeping the old boards at my house. I keep four boards at the mountain (FS, FR, SL, and GS) even though my quiver technically expands, the boards that I ride are the same four all season. When one wears out or breaks, I replace it.

Guest Randy S.

Saw a Kessler for sale. Couldn't resist. Bought it. Between closing the deal and board arriving, I tore my achilles. Board sits in my living room still. Mocking me! I see the doctor this afternoon. Maybe he'll clear me to ride. Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley are open through Memorial Day! Hmmm.

every board is different and prior to this season I was riding everyday, so having different stuff made things a bit more fun

this year I dumped a couple boards and ended up with a few more

what I got rid of was my madd

I got a prior WCR and a Coiler AM

I still have a love affair with the 173 Renntiger! Seems to be the one I go to/wish I had when I didn't. Bought a 160 Nitro SC from Brian S. and a F2 Beamer 158 at a used sports store. My homemade split is delaminating so I will get another victim to saw up. If I rode backcountry more a new Prior would be next, but I gotta make do right now. Big wish list, small finances!

I just got last week a brand new madd 158. I wasn't planning on getting a madd but after reading and reading about it here I had to at least try it on and I got a great deal. Now I just need a set of bindings because my race plates are starting to bend.

Can't wait to try the new board in 8 months.

My quiver did change this year. I added a newer Tanker 200 to the mix. Traded a 192 Tanker for a Rossi 190 world cup. And then bought another Rossi 190 as a back up. With the poor snowpack on Hood this season, I hardly rode some boards at all.

My Option freecarve 165 got a lot of early season play with the narrow grooming. And now the MLY 183 is getting lots more snowtime than I had figured. Although Timberline is still open, and my pass is good until 6/5, I'm already looking forward to next year. I'm hopeless.

Phil: Good idea, if I can ever afford to get a cabin up in Shasta I'll have to use that ploy to justify more boards...:D

Randy: Sorry to hear about your injury, good luck and a speedy recovery.

Ernie: Nice quiver! I had a 162 Sims Burner as my first real Alpine board, loved that thing!

jdgang: Let me know what your looking for, maybe I can help.

Slopetool: Did you get to ride the WC? If so how did you like it? I almost bought that one that Pat Donnelly had up for sale, but I just couldn't swing it. Still interested in trying one out....maybe next year? :)

Keep the pictures coming too!!!

Thanks,

Paul

Paul- yes, I rode the World Cup at Bachelor, Meadows and Timberline many days this year. And I really do like the way it rides. Like I was saying, I even bought a back up that is mint.

Theres better boards out there, but for the price I couldn't pass it up.

Thx for looking out for me. I looking for FP/UP/Speed that are bigger then 170 or other boards (non 3D) but I would need the 4 hole disks since all I got are the burton plates. I ride a small mountain so I am looking for board with a sidecut less then 13. I saw a couple already posted but since I just got new boots (thx ebay) I most likely have to thin out my quiver to get a new board or wait until the beginning of season.

Burton Alp 169, Volkl Renntiger 168, Renntiger 173, Oxygen Proton 178

I just added the two Volkls (thanks Ar(angel!), haven't had a chance to ride them yet. I hope they fill the gap between the soft and playful Alp and the higher-speed cruising Proton.

I'll probably sell off the Burton next season, maybe even cut the quiver down to two depending on which boards I find myself riding most.

Those tigers look good together! I love the stripes on the 168, that is probably one of my favorite designs next to the flamed "Coilers". How's that 178 Oxy ride? I'd picked up 4 of those last season (three 172's and one 178) wishing I'd have kept at least one to ride, but they sold really fast. The 178 was the first to go to a carver in Tahoe, can't remember his name, but I think he's one of the Tahoe Carvers gang. I'm looking forward to putting more time on my Tiger next season.

ncermak: I miss my old Throttle 171cm, almost seems like you've gotta have a Rossi in the quiver just to balance everything else out!

jdgang: I'll keep my eyes peeled for ya, local shop close to here has a few left. I figure by August he'll be ready to cut me a deal on them.....:D I'll let you know

Coldrider: Love your pictures! You've posted some really sweet shots, who's the shutterbug?

First season in years I didn't add aboard to the quiver and drop a board.Traded a throttle 166 for some sweet Nordica SBH Race shells tho. Thx Rusty !after riding a Madd BX 168, I'm with Coldrider.21 cm wide and a fatter stance seem to work. I ride a PureCarve Maverick 175 90 % of the time and it needs to be much stiffer

Randy, Bought a Kessler ? Nice ! Heel up that Achilles for the kiting season !

I've yet to see one....

Willy: other than the Maverick being to soft, how do you like that thing? I've got their carving video and watch it during the off season to keep my juices flowing. They look like great boards. Always wanted to try one of those too......Guess I'll have to make it out to SES one of these years just to sample all the different makes/models!

Have fun,

Paul

I started the season with a Madd 170, which I really like (much better than the Burton UP162 I was riding - more damp and better edgehold). I took advantage of the spring sales and got myself a Oxygen Proton 165GS because I've never ridden a board with a >11m SCR. Plus it is wider (18cm -> 19.5 cm) and I wanted to out how that goes. So this was my board collection at the beginning of the season

Madd 170

Donek Incline 155

Neversummer Evo 155

Burton Fish 156MD

Now I have

Madd 170

Oxygen Proton 165GS

Donek Incline 155 (selling)

Donek Phoenix 155

Burton Fish 156MD

That Volkl 168 is the coolest looking board I've ever seen! The 173 is pretty ugly to me, but I don't care enough to do anything about it. :)

I can only compare the Proton GS to the Alp so far... It's quite a bit stiffer; more demanding that I load it properly. It's no fun on shallow slopes (you have to go Mach 2 to make it turn a reasonable radius), really fun on steeper blues, and I find it kind of scary on steep blacks if the grooming isn't perfect because it feels like it's always trying to break out of the carve. That's probably partially due to my lack of technique...

If the grooming is good on the blacks and blues, I pull out the Proton every time. If the grooming is only good on the greens and easy blues, I choose the Alp and play with tight push-pull turns and pump hard to maintain speed. The Volkls should be the best of both worlds - at least I hope!

Keep in mind that I'm still pretty new at carving on alpine boards and have never ridden (or even seen) any other carvers. ;)
