TVR Posted November 21, 2018 Report Share Posted November 21, 2018 Honestly, if you put more than 10 days a year on the snow, you might want to spend the time and money to set up an area and do the tunes yourself. I chatted with several people and purchased the equipment to do my own tunes, and have never looked back. Often, I am at the end of my day with razor sharp edges with a smile on my face while some others are starting to skid as their edges dull from multiple days... Beckmann AG Posted November 21, 2018 Report Share Posted November 21, 2018 Jeff, In the event you travel as far as Sugarloaf, you can probably get a decent tune at Happy Tunes in the valley. Granted, I just go for a base grind and do the rest of the work myself, but I've had good luck so far. Has made a few recalcitrant and nasty boards ride properly. As with most tuners, you may be better off doing the de-tune yourself, and make sure to specify any particulars with regard to base/side bevel. Call ahead and talk to the owner, Lionel. I have friends in the Mid-coast of Maine, and friends in the Burlington, VT area and want to explore southern and central VT ski areas. So, the I-95 corridor in NH & ME/I-93 corridor in NH/I-89 corridor in NH & VT/I-91 corridor in VT...so Maine, NH and VT! I'm a nomad at times! I'd like some reviews of the Speed Factory in Campton, NH. And I think there's a shop near Mt Sunapee that might have the equipment to do a good tune. Yikes. I thought $65 here was expensive for the whole thing, I might have to eat my words. They did a nice structure grind for that too. Yeah, I had The Speed Factory in Campton, NH tune my Donek Metal 172 "tincan" a while back and I gotta say it rode somewhat cantankerously ever since! As it turns out, The Speed Factory is now longer in business. There are 2 shops in my general driving proximities that I will try out or have tried out. I had my cantankerous tincan tuned last Friday at Rodgers in Lincoln, NH. Which they turned it around in a day! I will be riding it tomorrow to see how it rides! The other shop is in Newbury, NH at/near the base of Mt Sunapee. I will be finding a donor board for them to tune for me to see how they do! Ask for Josh, Have known him for years, he knows the machine and all the adjustments/tricks aka pressure point adjustments to get a nice even base grind. I do my own edges. Josh says there is another guy there, just as good, have not met or dealt with him yet him yet. Very knowledgeable...actually, the whole snowboard crew downstairs knew a bit about alpine! Knew all the right names...Donek, Coiler, Bomber, Deeluxe, etc. They were saying they get some inquiries about alpine gear, just not enough to support alpine. Too bad! First off, it was a winter wonderland up there today, so you'd be hard-pressed not to ride/carve well today! Great day! I was switching off between my freshly tuned Donek and my Coiler Nirvana Balance that I bought a few years ago! There was nary a difference between my 2 boards today!
