Corey
Hi all, As mentioned here: http://forums.bomberonline.com/topic/45522-is-bomber-out-of-business/?do=findComment&comment=459741, the future of this forum is uncertain. I've started an alternate forum at http://lucidcarving.forumotion.com so we can still stay in touch in case the worst happens here.
SunSurfer
Bump! The number of people logging in is growing. Make sure you have created a link to the backup forum. When I last Google searched for the new Lucid forum it wasn't showing up, so being able to find it easily that way isn't guaranteed yet. st_lupo
That's great that we are getting multiple rally points, but we also need to try to prevent fragmentation of the group. Until we get a clear indication of the fate of the bomber forum, it might be best to keep the posts on lucid carving to things related to the technical aspects of getting the forum up and running the way Corey wants. Keep snowboarding things on Bomber still?
SunSurfer
While Bomber exists, Lucid is insurance. My own suspicion is that one day, quite soon, I'll try to log in here and get the dreaded 404 Not Found error.

My own suspicion is that one day, quite soon, I'll try to log in here and get the dreaded 404 Not Found error. That's a good way to put it: insurance. And I hope that you and I are both wrong on the second part, but planning for the worst doesn't hurt anything.
SunSurfer
Lucidcarving.forumotion now shows up on Google searches. I registered the site at Google yesterday which is a recommended way of getting a website found.

Corey
Actually Mellow, I pre-banned you to maintain the neighborhood. ;) That forum software seems finicky. It did the same thing to me. Can you sign up with an alternate email? I can change the email after the fact. Email me at my username at yahoo.com. big mario
It was finicky for me as well, wouldn’t let me in at first, then i got a confirmation email and was good mario
nextcarve
My confirmation mail from the forums registration process went straight into the spam folder of my mail provider. So if others have problems with registration, it may be the same cause. nextcarve
Aracan
Registration went smooth for me.
McKarver
Corey, Thanks for sharing the link, I just finished registering. For me, the Bomber Forum has been a connection to the Carving community and a wealth of information. I’d hate to see it end, glad there’s now an alternate. philw
I guess there are a few ways this could go legally. I suppose we, and this place, have a value which can't be ignored, and whilst we can take ourselves elsewhere, we could not legitimately take the history of data here elsewhere without someone legally agreeing to that. I'm sure between us we could rustle up some independent hosting, so we're not even tied to a manufacturer, although I don't think that tie has been an impediment here, even to those of us who don't use US bindings. All we'd need is hosting, open source forum software, a little admin, and a domain name. That would be the equivalent of the Lucid site but more in our own control and fancier. At the moment I guess we can only sit and wait. I doubt this is anyone's priority just yet. If it just dies, then it has zero value by definition.... I'd like to have a backup of the whole system just before that happens, if it was legal.
SunSurfer
Phil, Invision Community hosts this website & forum. (see bottom of the page) If you look at this page from their website https://invisioncommunity.com/buy there are a series of FAQs including what can happens if you close your account with them. The owner can get a download of the data, which I assume includes the Forum data. That could have whatever value "we", as the Bomber community, might negotiate with the bankruptcy trustee/receiver settling Bomber affairs.
