Ear dragger
I have ridden on the older upz's (the RSV's) for about 2 seasons. I just received my new RC10's and they are awesome! some nice new things on there, but one problem for me. The tongues are softer than what comes with the older boot
ursle
You mean the new pair didn't come with the grey tongue and it's an extra or you mean the grey tongue is softer?
queequeg
Also: make sure you use some threadlock on those bolts that hold in the tongue - they will loosen up and fall out on their own if you do not.
Ernie00
They are plenty stiff enough for me.. coming from AF600 with yellow springs the new RC-10 are way stiffer than my AF but not as bad as I expected it to be. I love them too so far. .. I also had a pair of gray tongue extra with the boots and they are way too stiff for me.

But I like it. Just stiffen up the springs a touch more and it works well.
bobdea
I put the soft set of tongues in but I'm running the injected liner so I may have a stiffer setup that you guys
Ear dragger
thanks all. I will loctite the tongues and i did tighten the springs up.looking forward to trying them out this weekend:rolleyes:
Thor VonRippington
I wore out a pair of RSVs last season and went to the RC10. LOVE the boots but put in a custom liner as well. Keep all necessary screwdrivers available and check every screw often... including the toe piece, cant screws, and buckles. I've lost most of the screws on both pairs at one point or another. It's no fun to end your day early and ride down with your cuff completely separated from the bottom of the boot... then beg Bola for parts cuz I never bothered to check them
Ear dragger
we'll see what happens. I put loctite on every bolt and screw.Having all the parts removable is great but there should be a lock washer underneath every thing to really hold stuff together
Zenbruddah
I am taking a look at these boots because of the supposed cross genre capabilities with the toe/heel dins, and their use also with ski's.. Has anyone had any problems with these changable dins? I have been softboot snowboarding for a while, and am transitioning to the hardboot carving, but was interrested in only using 1 pair of boots. any info/responses would be appreciated. thanks, Zen
Ear dragger
the boots are made very well. i do know that they are kind of soft as far as a ski boot standpoint, but they are fantastic for carving. now that i've ridden some on them, they perform better for me than my older upz's. I have always had a custom liner in there and I highly suggest going that route. the best thing i can report is that now i have no shin bang whatsoever! the grey tongues were just too rough on my shins. I tried it one day and hated it. They are great snowboard boots, but unless you're sub-100lbs they suck for skiing.

jcaple
Ear Dragger : Which custom liners are you using ? Bobdea : Who did your injection liners ? I had my RC10's fitted in Bolder (First pair of hard boots), got custom foot beds, but kept the original liners. Feet are now incredibly uncomfortable, freezing cold and toes tend to to numb after a few runs. Was either going to get a thermo liner of bomber or book a session at Surefoot to have molded liners made...... What would your advice be ? Cheers Justin
Ear dragger
I have dalbello silver liners, and they were done by a great boot fitter. the golds are good too, but I went with the silver's because the liner is really tall, it sticks 3+ inches out of the top of my shell. I have always had really bad shin bang and these fixed 90% of the prob, going to the rc10's gave me 100% comfort! Go get the liners done by a pro, not at home. get dalbello's (250)or the blown in kind (400) numbers are totally ball park:D
jcaple
Thanks for that.... I have a session booked with Jim Lindsay, a highly recommended boot fitter in aspen, he's happy to try a custom liner for the RC10 (He's never done one before and may involve ordering gear) but also fit a thermo liner for me, not sure which route to go...... SureFoot in London, want around $650 for a custom fit liner, while i'm in pain, that a whole other world, and should be accompanied by at least two of the Vestal Virgins, for a daily post session foot massage...... LeeW
I wore out a pair of RSVs last season and went to the RC10. LOVE the boots but put in a custom liner as well. Keep all necessary screwdrivers available and check every screw often... including the toe piece, cant screws, and buckles. I've lost most of the screws on both pairs at one point or another. It's no fun to end your day early and ride down with your cuff completely separated from the bottom of the boot... then beg Bola for parts cuz I never bothered to check them Yeah, that's why I always carry this nifty tool with the allen wrench to check my RSV boots every single time when I go out skiing. LeeW
the boots are made very well. i do know that they are kind of soft as far as a ski boot standpoint, but they are fantastic for carving. now that i've ridden some on them, they perform better for me than my older upz's. I have always had a custom liner in there and I highly suggest going that route. the best thing i can report is that now i have no shin bang whatsoever! the grey tongues were just too rough on my shins. You don;t want to ski in them unless you like REALLY soft ski boots. I tried it one day and hated it. They are great snowboard boots, but unless you're sub-100lbs they suck for skiing. +1Blue Bird tried to ski in them last season and said "no way"... too soft ED - If you need tounges email through bomber... I have a stack of 'em That's strange. I use my UPZ RSV boots -ALL- the time with skiing, all the way. I rarely go snowboard if ever. And by the way, swapping out the DIN, esp the Intec are a real major bitch to be dealing with. Trust me, I know this all too well from past few seasons working at the park. Also, one piece of advice, use the skiing DIN and leave it on the front -- it'll work just fine with the hardboots bindings if you really want to swap out the the DIN on regular basis (which I would strongly advise you not to). Thor VonRippington
+1 for Larry the bootfitter in Boulder There is also a guy in Winter Park, Colorado who only does custom boot fitting. He sells Dallbello boots, custom fit liners (including Intuition), and custom orthotics. I've had him fit several pairs of boots for me with great success. Ernie00
Perfect morning, perfect groom and my riding was getting back to pretty decent. Didn't check my boots. I know, I know The 4 screws from the canting disc came loose and lost one disc and screw... couldn't find it .. so after 1:15 of great carving I had to go back home... What a waste a good snow I feel so unsatisfied. Hopefully Dan has this piece in stock.

I had to go to the hardware store and throw together different washers and a screw to get them back on the snow. Bola styled me with parts to replace the washers and I started using locktight on every screw after that.
