Snowman
Mix it up a litte. Big turn laid back surf style with a aggressive/racer twist. Big boards are the weapon of choice, clearly! Along the lines of big wave riding. Fast and big.
D.T.
Can someone post pics or video of surf style carving.I have searched and read what I can about different stlyes of carving. But I am still confussed about surf style carving. My recollection is there are some photos or videos of Larry Castruita and some the the Aspen crew (PureCarve) somewhere on the site. When I have time, I will search.
Bullwings
Actually, if anyone has the video "Hard Attack" There's quite a bit of surf style carving/riding in there, but it happens more so on powder than on the groomers. RCrobar
Hello Check out the animations at the end of this thread on the EC site. This won't give all the answers, but it may get the ball rolling. IMHO Surf Style will have some degree of upper body rotation, as shown in the animations. http://www.extremecarving.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5740&highlight=cern Cheers Rob
Snowman
Definately rotation. Look where you want to go with both the head and upper body and everything else falls into place beautifuly. The animations are spot on!

Sh*t if carving was like hanging ten I'd be one of the baddest carvers around... hell if it was like surfing a longboard I'd be so stoked... not to invoke a :flamethrobut it's not. and BTW Grannis > Dora. b0ardski
I've been told by more than 1 surfer that I have a surfing style which leads me to believe that a style similar to surfing does exist:boxing_sm

lonbordin
I've ridden in pretty deep pow... it is surfier but it's not surfing. Maybe it was my softboots.
D.T.
the links are dead for many of the videos that I was thinking about, including one that I watched within the last month. Dave Winters, JoelP or Pat Donelly would be better sources for informtion. here are a few I could find: Joey Cabell Mike Doyle from Pat Donelly: A crew at Buttermilk: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAd3gqeySSQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAd3gqeySSQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

gus
all those pictures and videos just look like they know how to carve a snowboard with style. I know its not surfing snow, cause I surfed the major part of my life. Floating through powder does not feel the same as surfing a wave. Surfing a wave does not feel the same as floating through powder. Making a hard laid out turn does feel close to a bottom turn on a big wave. Just trying to figure out what is meant by surf style versus other styles of carving.
b0ardski
so' surfers can carve, but carvers can't surf? sounds a little biased to me:freak3: stylin' style is stylish, doesn't mean I carve in baggy shorts What constitutes style, the clothes you wear? stance? arm motion? turn shape? 1 stick or 2? Defining style is like grabbing a handful of water and expecting to hold onto it. It's like porn, I know it when I see it.
Snowman
Trust me, this battle has been around longer than alot of you have been snowboarding. Could potentially turn into ugliness.
b0ardski
It's all beautiful to me, unless they're heel sideslipping the powder off a steep run:AR15firin
lonbordin
Surfboarding was first... then Skateboarding, then Snowboarding, then Wakeboarding, kiteboardig, Ad nauseam So the nomenclature that surrounded Surfing was translated into other sports this leads to the confusion of terms that are no longer sport specific being used in similar ways in other sports. I've been avidly skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding since 4ever... (so old ) While sometimes the muscle movements feel similar (bottom turns and carves) the only thing similar with the three is the single rigid plane that we use under our feet to do the aforementioned sports. If the sports are so similar can we do all three on the same rigid plane at a high level? Much love BOL. Peace.

b0ardski
Is the flex of that surfboard stiff enough for a 200#er?
Softcarver
It's definitely not the same. I've been trying to get the hang of surfing for the last two summers with no luck, and I've been snowboarding for a long time. Fresh POW and surfing do feel slightly similar though in terms of floating. Not the same, just similar.
